Daily GTKY 7/18: PIZZA!

So my inner fatty/food lover is still thinking of my leftover pizza from yesterday and I haven't seen a daily GTKY in a few days so I thought this could be a fun one.  What's your favorite pizza topping(s)?  Thin crust? Deep dish? Do you think pineapple is an acceptable pizza topping?  PIZZA BISHES! OM NOM NOM NOM!  (And if you're one of those goofballs who don't like pizza, what do you go for?)

Oh, I am loving this. I feel like a lot of people might think my ideal pizza is gross. I like my pizza either thin crust or hand-tossed, doesn't really matter, with banana peppers, green olives, mushrooms, and pepperoni. When I can make my own personal pizza that I don't share, I love to get jalapenos, too. I'm a spice freak. Used to say pineapple was absolutely unacceptable on pizza, but then I married a man who loves a ham and pineapple pizza on occasion. I've acquired a taste for it, but it's still not my fave.

ETA: OH! Topped with crushed red pepper, garlic powder or a tad bit of garlic salt, and parmesan cheese with some pepperoncini peppers on the side.

Thin crust or in between. Although I wouldn’t turn down deep dish, either. 

Pineapple most certainly belongs on pizza! My absolute favorite combo is pineapple and black olive.

And now, I need pizza!!

Good one @lurvleybunchococonuts, pizza is my favorite food! Margherita with fresh basil, fresh mozz and sauce (not sliced tomatoes) is my all-time favorite and it needs to be super thin crust, and brick or wood fired is most preferable. I'm a pizza traditionalist, so I usually steer clear of weird toppings with the exception of Pepe's pizza, which is supposedly the best pizza in America and happens to be located near me in CT. They're known for their clam pies (shucked fresh every day) with garlic, olive oil and parmesan and it's AMAZING. I may or may not have had it this past weekend...

Growing up on the east coast my absolute favorite is thin crust, brick/wood fire pepperoni pizza with parmesan cheese sprinkled on top.  But now that I live in WI, my go to is still just a basic pepperoni, although I enjoy an occasional slice of Hawaiian or mac-n-cheese pizza and I'll eat pretty much all other toppings, just not olives.

@ginny_203 We went to Carrabba's for dinner in Warwick the other day and they had a Frank Pepe's across the street and DH was so tempted to order some pizza to go because we are dying to try it!!

My favorite is brick oven crust. A local place has my favorite topping, which at the current time is "Gold Fever Chicken" which is breaded grilled chicken in a BBQ & Honey Mustard sauce. SO GOOD!! 

I am also a sucker for a good cheese pizza. Boring, but you can't really go wrong!

Oh my goodness...I'm salivating just thinking about pizza (I also am about 2 seconds away from eating my lunch already...so it's one of those kinda days). 

I like most of the thin crust pizzas, love wood-fire pizza, and am a sucker for a good Chicago style deep dish (I'm looking at you, Giordano's and Lou Malnati's). The toppings I prefer kind of depend on the type of pizza - wood-fire I usually prefer BBQ chicken pizza, standard thin crust would be sausage/pepperoni/mushroom/onion/green pepper, and deep dish is onion/sausage/peperoni. DH is a big fan of the Hawaiian pizza, so I have come to accept pineapple on pizza. 

I can't do cold pizza, though. DH loves it, but I just can't...throw it in the toaster oven for about 5 minutes and it's perfect!

I love pretty much all pizza. My go to right now is spicy italian sausage, pepperoni and tons of green olives. But, I will try pretty much any type. I also love white pizza with chicken and basil. There is a local place that does amazing thin wood-fired pizza that has soppresata and honey on it. Man, it's divine. I now want pizza for lunch and we just had it this weekend!

Oooo... I remember when I was younger we'd get this amazing garlicy white pizza with spinach on it.  Haven't thought about that in years but man could I go for some right now... maybe I can convince my mom to freeze/bring me some east coast pizza when she comes out to visit my older brother's new son in a few weeks...

Mmmmm pizza. @lachnessmomster your pizza sounds right up my alley. I get odd looks when I ask if they have banana peppers and jalapenos. I'm more of a hand tossed crust type unless we are talking Chicago deep dish, then I'll stray. There was the best little pizza place in Chesapeake, Va that I would go to while dh was stationed in va and their pizza was pure heaven. I'd always order their spicy pizza that had pepperoni, spicy italian sausage, roasted red bell pepper, pickled onion, hot cherry peppers, marinara and mozzarella; THE BEST.

Pretty much all pizza is good pizza, but here are some of my faves:

LOVE Hawaiian (so, yes, pineapple is acceptable... and delicious!)

I like mostly thin, crispy crust, but I also love Mellow Mushroom's regular crust. It's wheat-ish, I think... I don't know, it's just good haha.

I'll take pretty much any sauce over marinara, but classic pepperoni with marinara is okay in my book, as long as it has tons of cheese.

I looooove anything buffalo, so buffalo chicken pizza is definitely a fave.

Adding: The only kind of pizza I really don't care for is deep dish. My BIL lives just outside of Chicago and he swears he's going to convert us (H doesn't like it either), but we've had it from 2 different places up there and still nope.

i love pizza. that’s my go-to answer if i’m ever asked what one thing i could eat for the rest of my life! my favorite style is deep dish, good fresh mozzarella, sausage, LOTS of chunky fennel-y tomato sauce. i do like pineapple on hand tossed pizza, but not ham.

Definitely thin crispy crust, brick/wood fire with regular cheese, fresh mozzarella slices and crushed red pepper. I also like it with a little bit of cornmeal on the bottom of the crust. But to be honest, I don't discriminate on pizza. Now I want pizza for dinner!

@highsteaks Pizzeria Bella Vista on Battlefield. Little Italian owned family restaurant. If you haven't eaten there and will ever be back in Chesapeake you should definitely try it!!

So this post should have a trigger warning for us mama's with GD!! I would kill for some pizza right now.

Anyways, in general, I like thin crust or NY style pizza. Wood or coal oven pizza is to die for! As for toppings I do really like Hawaiian, veggie (hold the mushroom), or really just plain cheese if it is a good pizza. My all time favorite is Margherita pizza with fresh mozzarella (drooling over here). But I also like more speciality ones like a white pizza with ricotta and broccoli.

Oh, also, in Delaware we have a local chain called Grottos Pizza. It has thin crust pizza with a ring of sauce and a ring of cheese that alternate. It is a really debate here, either you love it or hate it. I personally really love it.

@highsteaks No problem! They usually have discounts on their wine, beer and desserts on the weekends too and we have never been disappointed. I email dh frequently and tell him I just woke up from a dream about their pizza lol.

@tessiesmom26 OMG next time you need to try it!! I'm not sure if the chain locations are as good as the original, but I'm sure it's still great. Their ingredients are really high quality and so good - everything from their sauce to their pepperoni is delicious! 

ETA: @bfpafter4years that looks good! Definitely something I'd try once, since I'm a big fan of sauce.

My go to is either hand tossed or thin crust pepperoni and banana pepper. If I'm feeling froggy I will add jalapenos as well. I prefer light sauce as too much takes away from the taste, imo. 

@CopperBoom86 I LOVE Mellow Mushroom crust! I may order some today, because you made me crave it, so thanks.

oh man, I love it all.  It depends on my mood--for a weeknight, I have a thin-crust Jack's frozen pepperoni pizza sliced into 1/3s with extra mozzarella.  I just pull out 1/3 and have that for dinner if I'm on my own.  I'm happy to order pepperoni, pineapple, and/or bacon, and I'll take anything from thin to pan to stuffed crust. 

I will say that I LOVE Little Caesar's deep-deep dish pepperoni pizza (with crazy bread).  Clearly I would not survive without carbs.  Jet's also does a good deep dish pizza, but it's just a bit too heavy for me.  If you have to stop after one slice, what's the point?  This also is my answer for why I don't care for Chicago-style pizza.

And of course I'm born-and-raised in St. Louis, which means I'm genetically predisposed to love Imo's pizza.  Provel cheese and cracker-thin crust...but you have to eat it IN an Imo's b/c it gets cold really fast, so taking it home just isn't the same.

STUFFED CRUST is where it’s at for me lol. And I am a firm believer in pineapple on pizza. I love ham and pineapple.

This thread just made me think of Huc-A-Poo's Pizza on Tybee Island, GA. They offer dill pickles as a topping for their pizza. DILL PICKLES. You guys, it blew my mind. I get them every time I visit now.

Pizza is life!! Seriously my favorite food! I have never met a pizza I didn’t like! Lol I prefer thin crust, but will eat it all. My absolute favorite is ground beef, pepperoni, mushrooms and green olives. I could literally eat pizza every single day!!!

We have a local chain that offers this too and it is amazing! We often get the bacon cheeseburger pizza with pickles on it!!

Pineapple on pizza is fantastic - everyone knows that salty and sweet is the perfect combo - like pbj or trail mix. That’s why Hawaiian is the best!!!!

I love all pizza (I mean no anchovies I’m not crazy) but not so much the big chains. Mellow Mushroom is fantastic! I might have to get some this weekend...

DH is a Chicagoan and we used to live there, but deep dish isn’t something I want more than like 1-2 times a year, it’s really heavy. @smulrich16 We had Giordanos the last time we were there and DD couldn’t get over the sauce on top she kept saying “pizza’s wet!”

@lurvleybunchococonuts If we're at a pizza restaurant and pasta is on the menu, I usually eat some variety of that.  Fettuccine alfredo is my favorite.

If there's nothing else, I just don't eat.  Our families know by now that I won't eat it and generally make sure there's something for me or else (if I know in advance that there won't be any other options) I bring something from home.

It made for a sad childhood of bring miserable at other kids' birthday parties, though, let me tell you, especially since I also don't like hot dogs, which were the usual alternative (if there was one).

I think I've only met three other people in my life who don't like pizza and they're all immediate family members of mine: my mom and my sons.

Deep dish pizza is a particular "oh God, no" of mine, which sucks since we live in the heart of deep dish pizza land.

I love pizza but do not eat pizza sauce so I get no sauce but top it with tomatoes and roasted red peppers and banana peppers. It is amazing and now I really want pizza for dinner.

Im from Chicago so I definitely love a good deep dish pizza. My favorite is Giordanos deep dish with spinach and garlic. Most of the time I do prefer thin crust with one or two veggies on it. I do like spice, so whenever possible I like to get my pizza with giardiniera on half of it, so I can have a mix of spicy pizza and regular. 

I’m not ever too good for a frozen thin crust jacks cheese pizza. It’s something that reminds me of my college days, and whenever my husband goes out of town, I have one for dinner.

I'm so glad I have pizza in the oven while reading this! (Even if it's frozen). I'm a New Yorker so I love an authentic NY slice with pepperoni. Also a big fan of Hawaiian in recent years and love a good white pizza. I lived outside of Chicago for a minute so I've also developed an appreciation for a good deep dish.

I'm firmly against most veggies on pizza though. DH and I also have to get two different halves when we order a pie because he's such a veggie lover!

I love pizza. I do not discriminate and love all kinds of pizza. Partial to NY style, Hawaiian and veggie. Not a huge fan of deep dish, but I’ll take it! Now I really want pizza.

I read this thread at work and it made me really want pizza!  So I got home and made some from scratch for hubs and me!



I love boring plain old pepperoni and cheese pizza!  Pineapple is a big no for me though I tolerate it near my pizza for hubs (but if it gets on my pieces when we split a pizza he gets those bites)!

@bfpafter4years We have Grotto Pizza here in Maryland too! I like it. It's not my favorite, but we do it every once in a while for something different. 

I'm pretty traditional when it comes to pizza. I like pepperoni and olives, sometimes green peppers, and sometimes just pepperoni on its own. I usually prefer hand-tossed, but a local pizza place has the best thin crust pizza. They cut it in squares and have really fresh-tasting ingredients. It's our favorite! MH typically likes to get wings to go along with our pizza too.

I love all pizza! My favorite is cheese stuffed crust supreme with extra sauce, mmmmm. But really I eat it all. I love pineapple on pizza! And I lived in Chicago for five years so I’m a definite deep dish fan. Dang, now I’m wishing we didn’t have dinner plans already so we could order pizza!!
