I wanted to be a paleontologist after seeing Jurassic Park - very different than the princess or mermaid I had wanted to be just before seeing the movie.
I wanted to be a linguist. I used to pretend to be speaking a different language to my brothers so they wouldn't know what nasty things I was saying to them lol. My friends and I also made up our own alphabet, with different character shapes, so that when we would pass notes in middle school no one would know what we wrote if we got caught. My career now is in nanoparticle research but I do have a French minor that I'm proud of. Haven't spoken French in 10 years tho.
*TW* TTC history
Me:32 DH:31 Married: 8/2015
TTC #1: 4/2017 Testing: HSG, U/S, BW, and DH's SA all normal DX: Unexplained 8/2018: Clomid + TI = BFN 9/2018: Clomid + TI + Progesterone = BFN 11/2018: Clomid + IUI + Progesterone = BFN 12/2018: Letrozole + IUI + Progesterone \\ Cancelled due to cyst 1/2019: Letrozole + IUI + Progesterone = BFP! \\ EDD Sept 30th, 2019 10/7/2019: Healthy baby boy!
I wanted to be a meteorologist. I would pretend to be on TV all the time with a weather map thing I made and would put up on my closet doors lol. Side note - in college, I was a server and ended up waiting on the local meteorologist I had looked up to as a little girl and felt a little star struck haha. I'm still pretty obsessed with weather and could watch storms for days but my career is not at all close to that.
I wanted to be a veterinarian. Then a detective (or maybe a PI, like Veronica Mars lol). Went to school intending to go into social work but ended up working in finance.
TTC History:
Me: 36 MH: 39, TTC since Dec 2017
Aug '18: PCOS dx
Nov '18: MH SA - 19mil
Dec '18-Mar '19: Letrozole + TI - all BFN
Apr '19: Letrozole + TI, - BFN. Repeat SA (27mil) & DNA fragmentation test (17%)
I wanted to be a bus driver. I have no idea where that desire came from! By the time I was 8 that desire had passed. It wasn't until I was a senior in highschool that I found the profession that I am in now, I had never heard of it before reading about it in a book. My profession is no where near a bus driver.
I don’t remember pretending to work a lot as a kid. I was always taking care of my babies. I did like to pretend to birth my friends babies. I was always a singer with my barbies lol. I started wanting to be a nurse around 8ish. In jr high I thought about teaching after helping my mom run a tutor program. I did end up being a nurse for 12 years and am now working toward a teaching degree
Bahahaha! First I wanted to be veterinarian. Then as I got older I wanted to be a dancer. That was going well until I injured my knee at about 15. After that it was physically therapist. I started college for it but didn't get into the program due to some favoritism BS.
My final resting place is working at a dealership over the accounting department. For sure not where any of my math teachers saw me heading
I used to pretend to be a combo travel agent/cosmetologist. I now work in marketing.
At this point in my life booking travel (even for fun) requires like, 3 hours and half a bottle of wine and I exclusively do my makeup in the car, so I'm pretty far off.
I used to want to be a marine biologist. Then I found out I had zero interest in math and science so that dream was effectively crushed. Then when I got older I wanted to be a professor of Japanese literature (Heian period specifically) but, thankfully, I experienced burnout early on enough that I didn't pursue it. I am a higher education administrator now. I'll probably get an EDD later on in like, 5-10 years, so I can advance further. I love working in higher education but I'm very glad to not be on the faculty side. It's not for me.
@marebear15 You saying actor reminded me that I wrote a letter to Christopher Columbus and JK Rowling begging them to let me be in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. I don't think I actually sent the letter, but I now remember wanting to be an actress really bad depsite my intense stage fright
When I was a kid I wanted to be a singer like Selena. I was obsessed with that movie when I was younger. I did journalism in high school so I thought I would do something with that for awhile. I am only singer in the shower nowadays and didn’t do anything with journalism.
Haha I also wanted to be a veterinarian. Went to college for animal science. Ended up working in environmental testing lab then a doggie day care. Now I have an etsy shop making pet products.
I don't remember wanting to be anything when i was a child. but if i could do it all over again, i'd be a nurse. I'm currently an HR generalist, so it would be different and similar all the same.
@lulu1180 - Ha, didn't think about that before phrasing it that way! An Ed.D is a doctorate in education. I have a master's now, but an Ed.D is basically a practitioner's doctorate so it's less intensive than a Ph.D because I don't want to do research. I want to be in the field. It generally gets less respect than a Ph.D but I don't really care. It'll help me get into a higher leadership role, though, so that's why I want to do it!
I have always wanted to be an actress (still do background/extra work) but I knew that would be a far dream. In elementary school I wanted to be either the first female president or a pediatrician. In junior high, I wanted to be a news anchor. I stayed with that all the way through college (where I went for sports reporting). After college I wasn’t getting jobs I wanted so I decided to go back to school. I debated between teaching and being a pediatric oncology nurse—I chose teaching.
@prpl11butterfly ha! Same, my math teachers would be flabbergasted if they knew I went into finance. To be fair, I don't have to do a lot of math in my job, it's about 50% relationship management, 25% career/marriage/life counselling and 25% financial advisory which mostly consists of being able to understand clients' needs and make suitable recommendations based on what they tell you versus what they actually need.

A few: storm chaser - thanks to Helen Hunt in Twister, and I STILL love her in that movie. An astronaut, as I was obsessed with space as a kid. Or a epidemiologist a la the movie Outbreak. I got somewhat close with astronaut when I was in the AF, but now I have landed in Privacy.
First I wanted to be an actress or a model. Then I thought it would be fun to be a makeup artist (for movies doing beauty makeup but also special effects makeup). Then I went to college with the intention of going to med school, but realized I was not good at chem, and would do terribly in O-chem and physics, and promptly changed my major lol. What I ended up doing is nothing like any of those professions.
I always wanted to be a veterinarian when I grew up. I went to college and earned a degree in Animal Science. but no one tells you how hard it is to get into vet school and that there are so few of them. A few of my friends ended up going to medical school because it was easier to get in to.
Now, I am a middle school science teacher. I couldn't find anything that really utilized my degree where I am.
@meri-Mac I finally chose teaching because I love kids and because of the schedule—that way once I had my own kids, I could be off at the same time as them
I wanted to be an actress or a journalist. I went to film school for directing and quickly realized i would never get a job where i live. I now work as a public relations professional ... not far off from journalism i guess...
