It’s officially summer in the northern hemisphere! Who has nice cool office visits this week?

Me me me!! Ob check and doppler on Tuesday. I'm assuming we'll also schedule my anatomy scan as well. Also, @echo-charlietango you are the queen of bitmoji
FINALLY me!!! NT scan tomorrow and OB on Wednesday. I am so excited but SUPER nervous and anxious for tomorrow! I just really hope he's doing ok in there.
@morgantu I have an appointment Tuesday too! I'm hoping I get to hear the heartbeat on the doppler, but I'm not sure if I will. 16 weeks seems like a pretty boring appointment.
@lexidawg@morgantu I had ultrasounds at both of my appointments so far and I know I won't have one this time. Maybe I'll get a doppler instead. I hope so too! Good luck at your NT scan @lexidawg!
I get to go back to the OB this week for a three hour glucose test. I had half of a DQ blizzard tonight because I am fearing for the worst. I really wanted to crush the thing but this baby said absolutely not.
I have an appointment this week but elected into the centering program vs. traditional office visits...has anyone else ever done centering? Seems to be a good format to get a lot of support and build a new mom (local) community.
I, too, have an appointment Tuesday! Very anxious/excited and hoping they will use the Doppler (how can they not, right? I might request it if they don't offer!). It's my first time with the maternity clinic, so the appointment is a bit long..
@kadeephd my first centering appointment is this week so I’m not 100% sure what to expect but it’s similar to a support group. 6-12 women all with similar due dates meet once a month (until they are closer to their due dates) to discuss various topics. the group is led by a midwife who facilitates a knowledge portion and then group discussion on breastfeeding, breathing techniques, circumcision, labor tips etc. It is for any first time and subsequent moms. I wish they had the program when I was a first time mom because I feel like I would have gotten so much out of it. I am hoping to pay it forward to other first time moms in the group. The meetings have private time where you get one on one time with a midwife before joining the group discussion. It completely replaces traditional office visits. The midwives said that over the course of a normal pregnancy you get about 1-2 hrs of total care, where with centering—you get about 20 hrs. I’ll let you know how it goes this week!
I have an appointment Wednesday morning with my high risk OB. Just a quick consult on how my blood sugars are since I've switched to insulin, so no Doppler or ultrasound, but I'm hopeful that everything is okay this week and I don't have to adjust my dose for now! We've finally got my fasting number under 90, so I'm hoping to just coast at this dose for at least a couple weeks.
No baby appointments this week, but I feel like I've been having ALL the appointments. I switched to a new dentist because I'd been with mine for ages and didn't really like him. I had an intake/get to know you appointment yesterday and have my six-month cleaning tomorrow. The dentist found a little superficial lump on my neck and suggested my physician look at. It's probably nothing, but always better to be safe. So I have that appointment this afternoon. Then, I have some deep pits in my molars that have been "watches" for years, and the new dentist says she prefers to re-seal them. The way she described it, it all makes sense. That appointment will be in July and it's safe for pregnancy. That seems like so much and that doesn't even include my monthly midwife, chiropractor, and nutritionist visits. Good thing my work doesn't care about appointments as long as I'm getting my work done...
@omnommer I just got a reminder from my dentist to schedule an appointment too. Hate the dentist
My appointment went fine this morning. I got weighed, had my blood pressure taken, gave blood for the spina bifida test, peed in a cup, and heard the heartbeat on the doppler. 16 week was a pretty boring appointment as expected. I asked the dr and they let me change my anatomy scan to 19 weeks 6 days, so only 3 weeks two days from now. It's so soon! That appointment I am excited and nervous for.
All went well at the appt today! Scheduled my anatomy scan for July 24 (ahh less than a month). And fetal echo test (mh's family has heart issues) for Aug 10. Has anyone has the echo before? What to expect?
I called my new (military) clinic, and they said that they need me to pee in a cup before they could get the paperwork I need for my non-mil OB. So of course, I go to the clinic to fulfill this redundancy. After waiting 45 minutes a nurse calls me in and says that I don't need to pee in anything because a different military facility had already confirmed this pregnancy. *silent scream*
But! the nurse got the ball rolling on the paperwork I need, and gave me info about a New Parent Support Program - it includes free classes and a postpartum nurse visit Then we talked about pregnancy, nursing, babies, and local restaurants for an hour. No baby-check, but my blood pressure and temperature were good, and I walked out with some great resources. Yay!

@katy0990 I wish it was too, that’s why I was surprised that it was offered. I even told the nurse that I was going to hire a doula just for the PP visit & LC advice - but since I can get those for free, I don’t need the doula. DH and I are going to wing it and still try to labor at home as long as possible (my hospital is about five mins away).

@echo-charlietango The LC’s at my hospital were amazing. I am not sure if this is the norm everywhere, but they have a Lactation Clinic at the hospital that you can go to and seek help. I ended up going twice a week for a while and they were absolutely amazing. They gave me extra pump parts, lots of support, and even had a special parking area, so I did not have to deal with navigating the hospital and parking in the garage. The appointments were free (insurance covered 100%). If I had not had access to that support, there is no way DS and I would have made it to one year.
@katy0990 That’s awesome! Having the right help at the right time is such a game changer

It was amazing though! We went in, I had the same amount of time that I would normally get with the practitioner—weight, BP, FHR, questions/concerns etc. Then we went into group session-there were three others in the class but they were adding additional members into the next session. We paired up to learn more about the other moms in the group, watched a video and discussion oral health during pregnancy (I guess recent studies show that they believe the bacteria in the placenta during pregnancy is the same as the bacteria in your mouth ), we did an exercise about common discomforts, and set goals that we want to achieve with the help of the group during our pregnancies. The common goals of most of us were time management, stress relief, alleviating the transition for other children, and diet/exercise. I guess the next class next month- a nutritionist and breastfeeding expert are going to come in to talk and lead group discussion.
@morgantu I have not had the fetal echo done before...however, I will be in the same boat as you shortly. When my husband was 18 yo they found a benign heart murmur. When my son was ~9 months old, his pediatrician found one too. We went up to the local specialty hospital and he had an EKG and some additional testing. (His was also a benign murmur that they say he will grow out of). For those reasons, when we do our anatomy scan, we have to go back to the specialist hospital to do the more extensive anatomy scan that includes echo and some additional components. I am probably about 4 weeks out from that happening...so right around the same time you have one being done. If my appointment is first, I’ll let you know what happened so you know what to expect. (I’ll let you know as soon as it is scheduled!). If yours is first, can you let me know what to expect?? Thanks!

I'll be joining @morgantu @kadeephd and @ab_canada with the appointments tomorrow!
I'm so freaking nervous and excited. I haven't had an appointment/heard the heartbeat for 5 weeks! I think we will also schedule my A/S!
@Activebaby Good luck on Friday!
@LLynde5 GL with your glucose test!
@Hollyyyyy Good luck with your appointment tomorrow!
It almost reminds me of The Letdown, if anyone's watched that on Netflix. Except that's only a postpartum group.
