So what are you ladies using? What is your climate, and how is your product working for you?
I read the following article this morning and am thinking about using one of my aluminum-containing antiperspirants again, because my usual just isn’t cutting it.

These articles annoy me, because where can you even find female deodorants without an attached antiperspirant. I mean I know, Amazon and specialty places. But I still do all my deodorant shopping at the grocery store.
That said, I actually have been using Old Spice Amber deodorant since around the time I got KU just because of some nasty armpit cysts. It smells nice but wears off fast, but I haven’t noticed my armpits crying like they did when we lived in Vegas and I had to use it (same reason). I guess I’ll probably just keep using it for the time being.

I was using LaVanila deodorant (aluminum-free, I buy it from Sephora), but it is just not working well in Alabama. This 90* & 90 percent humidity leaves my armpits crying before I leave the driveway.
My antiperspirants must be mid-range aluminum content (neither are listed in the article) so I’m thinking about using one every other day / every third day.
This trial & error makes me feel like a teenager. A teenager with mortgages.

I use degree and have for years. I used it through my first pregnancy and a year of breastfeeding. I had no idea this was even a concern, but now I am worried since the article lists it as moderate.
I've been trying to stick it out with Schmidts, which is Al free, but like with everyone else, it just isn't working with the pregnancy hormones. I actually feel like it makes me sweat more than I normally would sometimes. It's fine for at-home or at-work use, but I'll probably switch to an antiperspirant for times I'm out in public / care about my shirt being sweaty.
I have a stick of Toms, some So Natural unscented deodorant powder, and Crystal Essence spray. None of them work particularly well. I use them occasionally, but tend to not use anything the most. I just haven't found a natural option that works well and I'd rather smell a bit than use a product I'm not comfortable with. I haven't regularly used antiperspirant or deodorant in years. No one complains, though I know I definitely smell after the gym.
@hkom That is how I feel about almost all natural deodorants -- I smell worse with them than without them...
I made the switch to more natural deodorants when nursing my second and haven’t gone back. The ones I’ve found work best are pricey but help alleviate my mild hypochondria. PiperWai for a stick, or if you can get your head around applying a paste/cream then I find Routine holds up even on a long run or sweaty soccer game.
^ Oh! I didn't know that PiperWai changed to a stick-able formula - I used them when they were still paste in a jar

I use an arm & hammer one that’s aluminum free. It’s just a deodorant, not an antiperspirant. It works well for me, but I don’t live in a particularly warm area. It’s perpetually damp in the pacific nw, but not hot. Usually. It’ll be 90 today, yuck. I’ve found it at regular stores in my area (not something I’ve ever had to order online). I can’t remember which store tho. Target? Some high end grocery store? Idk. Sorry that’s not much help for anyone interested.
I’m in Canada so buy at local vitamin store bc of shipping/duty headaches, but I think you can order directly from their website also?! Definitely was pumped when they added a stick to their line up....
@kadeephd I have tried sooo many and pretty much every one makes me smell so much worse than if I weren't wearing any at all! Schmidt's actually works for me in terms of smell, but I feel like it makes me sweat waayyyy more than normal.

I think I use the same one you do, and never could fine it at Target. It's at Walmart though!!
That said, it used to work great for me, but I hate Walmart so I started using something else. However, no other aluminum free deodorant works for me, so I went back to the Arm and Hammer, and now it doesn't work well...honestly, mine's not even a pregnancy issue. I'm legitimately allergic to aluminum in deodorant. I've tried Toms, Native, Men's Speed Stick, some random herbal thing, NOTHING WORKS. I don't even care if I sweat, I really don't, but if I don't wear something, I straight up stink and I hate it. I probably need to actually talk to a doctor about it and see if he has any suggestions...I just never feel like scheduling an appointment and telling the receptionist it's to discuss why I stink.
I use Schmidt, and can find it easily at target. Honestly it was one of those things I switched to because of my moms cancer diagnosis, I just don’t want any chemicals I can’t justify.
As as far as how it’s working, I usually keep a second stick at work, just in case anyway. It’s hasnt been an issue. And I love the way it smells.
@runrinserepeat I can totally understand how your mom's diagnosis changed your product choices! I'm super curious about Schmidt - I don't think I've seen it before and now I want to find it and sniff it.

@echo-charlietango Schmidt is the only "natural" deodorant that's ever worked for me. I get mine on Amazon but I've seen it at fancier grocery stores. The have multiple scents and they're all pretty good!
Definitely check out native deodorant. My husband and I did a lot of research when we decided to switch from antiperspirant...the reviews can speak for themselves, we love it!!! I ordered it online from the website and recently put it on automatic reorder. So easy!
@katy0990 I think the Calendula / Ylang Ylang one is the mildest. I haven't tried the rose/vanilla one though - seems like an odd combination of smells.
@runrinserepeat I like smelly things too - especially floral scents

I use Schmidt's sensitive in lavender. The regular (not sensitive) made me super itchy because of the baking soda. I tried fragrance-free sensitive but mixed with B.O., I felt like it made the smell worse, haha! Now they have fragranced sensitive sticks (lavender being one). Love love love! I'm darker complected so it does kind of suck to use a white deodorant but I'm out to impress no one.
I have a bottle of Honest spray deodorant that I keep in my bag, just 'cause. I like it in a pinch - but don't apply after shaving. Ouch!!
@mschill22 my issue with Native is 1, it didn't last all day in a good way, after some time it just smelled weird. And 2, it seeped into my clothes!! Anything I wore during the time I used Native (which was a few months...) now has a really weird smell that will not come out no matter how many times it's been washed. So that mixed with any other deodorant just stinks more.
@CecilB93 I have had that problem with certain scents, too. I wash those clothes in baking soda and then run the load again with vinegar and they smell good as new.
@katy0990 I'll have to try that! Some shirts are so bad I don't even want to wear them anymore...for me it was both the scents I tried, then I gave up on Native lol.
@CecilB93 was there a specific scent you used? We have been using it a couple of months and I (thankfully) have had no issue with it. But who knows...with these crazy pregnancy hormones it might not work or I could become appalled by it at any time. Seems like the Arm and Hammer is recommended, if I ever decide to switch I’ll have to try that one next.
I've been using Suave but was just thinking the other day that I'd like to switch to a pure deodorant rather than an antiperspirant for health reasons. I'll read back up on this thread for recommendations others have posted.
@CecilB93 I’ve never had an issue with Native! Are you maybe applying it too thick? I LOVE them but can’t order in the summer. I live in AZ and it’s too hot to order deodorant in the mail because at 110 degrees plus, it melts! My second favorite is Schmidt’s and I can find it in Target by me. It doesn’t last as long as Native does for me, but it’s a close second.
@borgie05 maybe, but if I don't put on as much as I was then it didn't work as far as smell. And even with applying it thick it didn't work for smell, so I'm just done with Native honestly. I know someone else who uses it and to my knowledge she likes it! Everyone's different, and I just haven't figured out what works for me.
Thought of another one I've tried...doTerra. I don't remember much about trying it, but I didn't stick with it so I'm thinking it didnt help the smell at all because I'd be willing to pay the money for it if it worked!
I am still using Secret Outlast which has 19% aluminum. I've switched out a few things for more natural products, like my face wash and moisturizers, but when it comes to deodorant and most cosmetics I just can't bring myself to do it. Vanity is my favorite sin.
I second the Arm & Hammer aluminum free one, I've used their unscented, clean scent, fresh scent. I like them all! Worked way better for me than Toms; as it made my skin basically peel!
