Tummy Time

Anyone else having a hard time with tummy time? My son is 12 weeks old and he still freaks out every time I put him down on his tummy. I keep googling different ideas and a lot of articles have pictures of babies who look much smaller than him holding their head up high .

My LO gets frustrated during tummy time and ends up kicking himself over to his back. He does it every single time and has since about 6 weeks old..  I read somewhere to flip him on his stomach after a diaper change just on the changing table for a few minutes, I tend to get a bit more time there before he gets frustrated (maybe because he can see my face better).

  • My baby (9 weeks) also hates tummy time. He will lay there sucking his thumb. I hide his hands with a burp cloth and he will start crying and kicking his legs. He doesn't hold up his head yet during tummy time. I've only been giving him about 10 minutes a day. Mostly, I sit him on my lap holding his middle and he strengthens his neck muscles by holding his head up that way.
  • A lot of our tummy time is on my chest, me laying back on a chair...he lifts his head up to stare at my face or to look around. He seems to prefer that over tummy time on a blanket. Lol he manages on the blanket too but not for long...maybe 3 mins and then puts his head down. He seems to be bored or maybe I'm trying that out when he's too tired.
  • We also use a prop pillow. He got really good at that though so I've started trying to lay him flat on the floor. It only lasts a few minutes before he gets fed up
  • I just learned a new trick! Prop them up on their forearms! My baby hated tummy time, even on my chest or the Boppy. I tried this trick yesterday and it worked like a charm.

We have the issue that he is rolling over belly to back and won’t do tummy time now.

  • I read somewhere that side lying is also important bc it strengthens the muscles in the chest wall. Which improves breathing and supposedly decreases SIDS risk. So I start kiddo on one side (I try to remember to alternate) and we look at each other. Then I roll her onto her tummy up on her elbows. I put her on a high contrast blanket and put things around her that she likes to look at. She's definitely getting stronger! Today she reached one hand out! Some days she just cries when she's worn out and other days she puts her head down and sucks on her fist.

Supposedly rolling them onto & off of  tummy instead of just plopping them down is better. I guess it helped, but when I roll her off tummy onto the other side she's still whimpery. So sad, but they've gotta do it.
