I had my 20 week sonogram and I was told there is an abnormality in her heart. My doctor thinks it is probably nothing, but said I needed to go to a specialist. Has anyone been told this? Did it turn out to be normal or an abnormality?
I wasn’t told this, but I do know that you shouldn’t worry without a reason! I hope everything turns out just fine, see what the specialist says. Your doc is probably right and there’s no need to be concerned, but it’s always better to check!
I have heard multiple instances of things like this turning out to be nothing. And even if it is something, knowing early will help you and the medical team prepare for it when your LO is born. But for now, try to take comfort in the fact that your doctor isn’t too concerned. Good luck with the specialist!
I know exactly how you are feeling. We had an abnormal scan but dealing with kidneys. Our doc also told us it could be nothing or could be. We also are being referred to high risk specialist. Our appointment is next week. We have known this news for almost 3 weeks and honestly the first week was super hard with worrying and wondering. Don't google....that just gets you more confused and upset. Try to focus on the facts that you know and wait for the specialist. One point I focus on is ok....they did not send me straight over to anywhere so that has to be a positive that things are not detrimental to baby's health...
Do you know when your specialist appt is yet? I will be thinking of y'all!
Our anatomy scan showed a bright spot on baby's heart (echogenic intracardiac focus) but since I already had the ultrascreen genetic testing done and showed no increased risk of abnormalities there, our doctor isn't at all concerned and recommended zero follow up. Do you know what kind of abnormality they saw?

We also had an abnormal heart defect seen on the anatomy scan. We went to a cardiac specialist and had a fetal echocardiogram and everything looked normal! Such a relief! The cardiologist said that sometimes there’s a hole in the heart that can be noticed early on and then closes before birth. It’s called VSD and it’s pretty common. Thankful that was not our case, and I’ll send you good vibes that it is not in your case either!
@sarahjolene96 sorry you are there alone and nervous. FX for good results today. Just remember you have a team of internet strangers supporting you. Sending creepy internet hugs your way.
