  • I have a breast pump PSA:

The TL;DR is: If you've heard of the service Aeroflow for getting your breast pump, you may want to look into it further before using them.

Last pregnancy I used the Aeroflow site to get my pump and in addition to sending the actual pump, they would automatically send replacement parts every 3 months (new tubing, flanges, valves, membranes, bottles - all covered by insurance) and I thought it was great. When you create an Aeroflow account, all you have to do is provide your insurance and doctor information, then they do the work of getting the rx, checking coverage, and billing insurance for the pump and accessories. It's really convenient. They'll give you pump options that are covered 100%, and if you want to upgrade then you pay out of pocket for the remaining amount. However, I think I learned something today that'll keep me from using them again.

This time around I'm wanting the Spectra S1 pump (got a Medela PISA last time) but Aeroflow told me that I'd have to pay $90 OOP to get the S1. Or I could get the Spectra S2 for free, but that one doesn't have the battery pack. This $90 difference was confusing to me, because on buybuybaby, there's only a $40 MSRP difference between the 2 pumps. So I decided to call my (amazing) insurance company today to see what they said is covered, and they said any personal use pump is covered 100%*. So I can't go out and get a hospital grade pump, obviously, but if I buy the Spectra S1 myself and submit for reimbursement, they'll cover it completely. So it seems Aeroflow was trying to make me fork over extra $$ and it was NOT based on my insurance coverage. They gotta make money somehow, I guess. So moral of the story is to just set aside a few minutes and find out what exactly insurance will cover, straight from the horse's mouth.

*YMMV- with DS, we had different, less awesome insurance coverage and when I called them directly, I was given about 4 pump options to choose from. So in that case, Aeroflow was not a rip off because I would have had to pay something OOP if I wanted to upgrade. But this time around, it would be a rip off to get the S1 through them.

  • @fwtx5815 I contacted them about a month ago trying to see what would be covered. I haven't heard back yet but recently one of my husband's coworkers said that I could rent a hospital grade one for $20 a month with their insurance. Now I'm hoping I don't hear back from them, because my mind has been set.

I would do both! I believe coverage of *some* type of pump is mandated still (usually electric, but I'm not sure if some companies try to skimp by on just offering manual pumps) so if it costs you nothing, I would get a pump you can keep permanently if you want to exclusively BF. Hospital pumps are pretty awesome, so I could see wanting one for those first few weeks to help with supply, but I'm not sure if you'd be able to keep renting one indefinitely, since a doctor has to write a rx for it to be covered.

  • While we're doing random PSA's. My mom got us the Emily Ley baby book. I haven't received it yet (it arrives this weekend!) but I wanted to share a bit about it with y'all. Mostly, that they have add in pages for things like infertility ("journey to you" and "our doctors and nurses" pages, etc.), fostering, adoption, and loss. I don't know how many people are looking for such a personalized baby book but wanted to share about these since they're beautifully designed.

  • I have decided I will be contributing minimally to the inner workings of our home anytime soon. Cooked the dogs chicken for the week then told DH I would go grocery shopping with him because he has gone alone the last few weeks and it’s normally a chore we do together. Started gagging before we even left the house, but I still went. We had to rush through the store without me ever looking at any meat (I definitely would have vomited). Was nauseous the whole drive home and when we walk in the house it smells like the chicken I cooked for the dog which immediately makes me sick. I finally just said you have to feed the dog and I’m just going to stay in the room with the door closed. I only walked out just now to make a bowl of frosted mini wheats so maybe I can poop and promptly returned to the room. He is meal prepping for his work week so I surely can’t walk out again.

I feel completely debilitated! I even took my immediate nausea relief meds and they did nothing.

  • @klj0228 I could eat meat first and second tri with no problem last time but I could NOT shop for it. The meat aisle was a hard nope.
I've been too exhausted to put it to the test lately. Every time I've gone to the store lately I've had raw ingredients on my list and every time I've picked up frozen meals and said f it. Too tired.

  • @klj0228 that’s the worst. I’m sorry

@SkilledSailor did it come in a nice box? My EL a planner came in a pretty box so I used it store keepsakes like hospital bands, first birthday party invitations, etc for DS.
For this next LO I just bought one off Amazon since I’m using a different planner now

  • So I find out today that I'm no longer working Monday nights. Yes, it's Monday. Not a huge deal really, other than a bit frustrating that my boss didn't bring it up to me ahead of time or even with notice or anything. It's Bartending.

I'm also torn about the decision on his part. On one hand, Mondays are not normally a money making night, and working nights when I stay with my toddler during the day and when he still wakes me up twice a night even after I get home is....so hard.

On the other hand, he didn't tell me or talk to me about it, I do make more money than none, so it helps, I'm not going to be able to really keep the job after this one arrives unless my mom moves back to this state, and I'm now a little worried that he's going to be trying to phase me out earlier than my body needs-which again is lost income.

So not sure if I'm mostly happy or mostly sad. I'll think about it while I snack and read a bit all alone.

@pourmeamocktail does your boss know your pregnant? If he's really trying to phase you out because of that, that's more than illegal.
    SkilledSailorBusinessWifestarlanackie
  • @klj0228 and @Redpuma119 I was only working 3 shifts per week, so now two. It's a tiny place where most shifts are just one person per shift. so I can't really ask for more, as we're full. He gave my shift to the new girl that just got hired when two of us told him we couldn't regularly work 4 shifts per week. Her other shifts are all waitressing and she really does need the one bartending shift for training to be ready to take more of my hours at some point.

I also had my son at 35 weeks, so I likely will be done working on my feet by 30 weeks anyway. He knows I'm pregnant, lol, our work uniform shirts are fitted so that didn't hide more than 3 weeks post bfp.

I don't feel like he's discriminating he's a small business owner (8 employees) just doing his best. honestly a think it could have waited another 4 weeks, but I just had to take a week off for a out of state funeral, so it made sense to start it then.

It's not the end of the world, just minorly annoying that it was sudden and not discussed.

  • Super dissapointed the house we looked at last night feels smaller then where we are. My couch would not even fit in the living room. Apparently 700sq ft difference is small sitting room and bedroom. This is making the addition look more logical by the minute. We could easily add a family/play room in the basement so I guess we will keep comparing options.
    BusinessWifespottedginger
  • @prpl11butterfly I totally get it. We've been doing a lot of house hunting in the last several months but so many places are so small. We have a huge master bedroom now so anywhere else will be smaller, but if we can't fit our couch or DD's furniture in her room, that's a problem. We'll probably submit an offer on a house today but it's very unlikely that we'll get it as list price is already a stretch (and it will very likely go over). If we don't get it, we'll probably add onto our current place to make another bedroom and bathroom, which probably means moving in with my parents this summer during construction (not a huge deal as they're close and we spend tons of time with them anyway, but it's still a loss of privacy).
    BusinessWifespottedginger
  • @yosemite2018 it's crazy. Even the realtor said they make houses bigger but generally not with a 4th bedroom. Same size house minus that room would be much bigger living space. I really think H would be okay if we had a play room. Niece is older where her things are getting smaller (she's 9) but DS being 2.5 means stupid big toys. His room is soooo crowded. Luckily for us, we wouldn't have to relocate for the addition since we are building out. They could get 75% done before we need to make any changes to room arrangements.

    Good luck on your offer!
    BusinessWifeyosemite2018
  • @prpl11butterfly yeah they’d be building out for us too. I don’t think we’d have to relocate too long (just when they do the work for DD’s room (moving the window to a different wall) and adding the door to the addition, but I just dealt with drywall and paint in my office and between the noise, fumes, and dust I personally wouldn’t want to be around it.
    prpl11butterfly
  • @yosemitemom that makes sense, the fumes and dust would be problematic. For us we wouldn't even open the house to the addition until it was almost done (blowing out DS's closet to extend the hallway). And I would be at work majority of the time work was happening. I really have no where to relocate with 2 kids, 2 cats, and an insane dog so we will be stuck  :/
  • @pourmeamocktail if I give DS a snack he wants but grab something different for myself, he immediately won't finish his and wants mine. And 100% of the time, I offered him what I planned to have and he rejected it. These toddlers....
    SkilledSailorstothi
  • @pourmeamocktail your snacks are obviously better!

  • Only half serious, OK, mostly all joking, but what does one do with a toddler biting the dog, lol? He isn't biting people. And I blame my husband, he rough houses with the dogs and plays games where he play bites them...I think my son is watching and mimicking.

I feel like my toddler is a SS today.

  • @pourmeamocktail Honestly, I’d treat it however (if not more seriously) you would if he bit a person. Especially considering the dog may possibly bite back, no matter how sweet they are.

Question for STMs! A good friend just had a baby and I go to visit on Thursday! They don’t want me to bring any food and have still been running errands but I was thinking about bringing muffins or some other breakfast food they can snack on. Thoughts? Would these be good or probably go to waste since they’ve said not to worry about anything?

  • @pourmeamocktail I agree with @SkilledSailor, I would definetly handle it similar to biting another person

@SkilledSailor I love muffins, so that would be great to me. Quick, easy and delish. I actually made and froze a bunch of muffins before DS was born for that reason!

  • We'll see, dog hasn't noticed yet. I kinda tried, but trying to discipline a non-verbal kid that's not old enough for time out when the dog isn't old enough to be left alone is hard...

I think my biggest hurdle will be convincing my husband that he absolutely must stop this game to have any hope of stopping my son.

But he laughs when I talk sternly to him and pull him away from whatever thing I've just told him not to touch/do. The only thing that's worked is trying tm distract (lol, not this kid), and removing him from the situation. Seeing as I can't trust either the kid or the dog alone yet, and don't want to dog to get punished by being locked up in his crate when he gets bit....idk. Kids are hard.

  • @SkilledSailor anything that is ready and can be eaten in a few bites one handed is a great idea.

  • @pourmeamocktail I nannied a kid like that. It is super difficult to figure out a discipline system that works for them! Maybe skip the stern voice and try calmly telling him "we don't bite" and try a super short time out (like ~30 seconds).

Glad the muffins idea is a good one! I'll try to make some tomorrow evening.

  • @pourmeamocktail my 2 year old thinks its hilarious to torment the dog.  The dog is old and not at all amused by him, so we have to be really on top of it.  The second he gets less than totally gentle I scoop him up, say something along the lines of you need to be gentle with the doggie.  Then we leave the room and he has to play something else for a while.
She's also crate trained and will go in there if she needs to be alone for a bit.  DS knows he's not allowed anywhere near her crate.  If he even looks at it too long I scoop him up and we leave the room.
That plus lots of positive reinforcing when he is being gentle seems to be helping.

  • @nackie Our dog is 7 months old and already has to spend a decent amount of time is his crate because he has to be supervised closely at all times still. I'm trying to avoid punishing him right after he's so sweet to not react to baby nonsense.

@stothi Unfortunately steps 1 and 2 are exactly what he laughs at, lol. And considering we're working on teaching him to not hit, I'm not totally against spanking, but at this highly mimicking time I just don't see that helping.

I did pull him away and stern talk, he laughed, I reminded him to be gentle, he laughed. I dragged him a few feet away and gave him a truck to play with. He thought about hitting dog with truck, but didn't. Then drove the truck on the dog. That was a positive step. Either way my child of a husband has agreed to try to stop biting dogs so much...
