Re: Questions: Week of 12/17

  • lol, I guess we'll never know for sure! It's weird...as if baby was shivering for a short time, even though I doubt that's it.  I never felt it with DS.   I also don't think I know what hiccups feel like, because if it's like a "jump" or movement that has "timing"  to it like when we do it, I've never felt it....at least not more than like 30 seconds, when I start thinking that's what it might be.  Then it stops.

@psuxray07 yep. I definitely agree it’s not hiccoughs. Maybe it’s just how nerves form and babies develop!

  • @ngolimento ; @tooraloorah ;  So random question - I've never seen anyone say hiccoughs before.  Do you say it like it's spelled?   Just wondering! lol

  • I totally have felt this shivering sensation you speak of! Does anyone have an anterior placenta, and also has really felt a decrease in movement around 24/25 weeks? Last week was the first week I felt actual kicks rather than flutters, this week he’s been SO quiet and I’m back to only feeling occasional little flutters. Makes me worried- I like to feel the big kicks because it makes me less anxious! I have an ultrasound tomorrow anyway.

  • @vintageandrea90 I haven't felt a decrease in kicks, but some of the biggest kicks have happened when I am in bed at night, usually when I am supposed to be sleeping. I like to think she is having a party in there from 3-5am. You could be missing a lot of activity while you are asleep. Overall, it probably has to do with the position the baby is in, and maybe he moved since last week. I feel like mine is probably transverse during the big kicks, as they are always at my side. I wouldn't be too concerned unless you feel absolutely no movement for a day or so, but if you are concerned you should contact your doctor. I don't know if you got to see a side view of the baby and the placenta during the anatomy scan, but it was pretty mind-blowing for me to see this structure that was just as thick as the baby. It helped me understand why it took me so long to feel anything.

  • @vintageandrea90 I am a FTM with an AP, and am 25w5d. Movement comes and goes for me... some days I feel a lot, even for several consecutive days, then I'll feel very little for a day or a few days. I know it's normal to have a lot of variation, especially with an AP. I also think it has to do with baby's position and the placenta placement. I basically never feel any kicks in the middle/upper part of my belly, so I assume my placenta is there, while I feel lots of kicks down low and to the sides. This means maybe I feel movement when baby is head up and dancing on my bladder, but not when it's head down so much? Since the kicks aren't that pronounced yet, I also think that when I have a really busy day (on my feet the whole time), I don't notice as much as when I'm sitting, or just being still more. Lastly, the baby's sleep patterns matter a lot - I was worried at some point because I hadn't felt much movement for a couple of days, then I woke up at 4 am to pee and wow, that baby was really going! I was just sleeping through it!

  • is the genetic disease screening the same thing as the 1st and 2nd trimester blood test screenings?
  • @sjn00 the panorama blood test screens for some genetic conditions like trisomies and the doctor said you could do that any trimester. Not sure sure if that answers your question or not.

I have a question/complaint that I want to ask more to just make myself feel less alone but any other working mamas out there working this week and next week just to save PTO for maternity leave??

  • @peppersmith22 I totally would be if we weren’t hosting my inlaws right now! I am kind of annoyed by how much PTO I am burning but at the same time this will likely be my last break from work before the baby gets here.

  • @peppersmith22 I am not working now, but my hubby is saving all his time off for when baby is born. I have a feeling this might get frustrating at times during the next two weeks.

  • @peppersmith22 I am taking off next week, but I spent this year budgeting in Christmas week off knowing we'd be TTC and probably getting pregnant and needing to save as much time as possible for maternity leave. Its my last break before the baby gets here.

This leave is a little different from my past two because for the first time I will come back to work with NOTHING and that unnerves me. I'm using every vestige of leave to daisy chain paid time and FMLA unpaid leave for my last maternity leave Hurrah but I'm constantly stressing about having no leave once I go back...

  • That makes me feel a little better ladies!!

@ladythrice I came back with nothing last time and it actually wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. It took forever to build up my PTO again since I had to take off so much for DS getting sick.

  • @peppersmith22 - I am finally up to 2 weeks of PTO (hours accrue each pay period). I am just under the threshold for being paid (a reduced amount) during maternity leave. So yes, I am saving every minute of PTO I can. But it does stink to not take at least a day or two off :(
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @peppersmith22 right here! I usually take at least a few days off surrounding Xmas and I’m not this year because all of my PTO gets paid out to me when I go on maternity leave, so I’m hoarding it. It sucks. I am lucky to be able to work from home when I need to, so I am going to do that the day after Xmas but will be in the office the rest of the time. I’m just thankful Xmas falls on a Monday this year so I have the weekend to get stuff done/travel/hopefully relax and enjoy a little. If it was in the middle of the week this year I’d be super upset.

@ladythrice My employer doesn’t give me any choice about using my PTO while on leave. I am required to exhaust all sick time and vacation time so I will come back with absolutely nothing as well. I’m currently stressing at the moment about it because my BIL is getting married at some point over the next year and the wedding will be in Europe. My inlaws are currently giving me the impression they may plan the wedding for this summer! So it’s likely I will have to request unpaid time off to go. I don’t mind taking the time off unpaid as much as I dread having to ask my boss about doing it.

  • @peppersmith22 ; I'm trying to not take any time off because I've only been in this job for a year and I used all my time in Oct (6 days) to go to GA for BIL's wedding, which was planned before I got pregnant.  I have sick time that I have to use for all my appts, which I try to make as late as possible to use the least amount.  But I literally have like 5 appts coming up in Jan that's gonna take almost a whole day of sick time.  At baby time, I may only have about a months worth of time that I can get paid.  Stresses me out, because we're probably going to have to take a loan out to live for 2 more months.

Sorry for the novel, haha.  It's killing me not being able to take off around the holidays or even just take a break!  Luckily I have two 3 day weekends coming up, lol.

  • @peppersmith22 My PTO doesn't roll to the next calendar year. However, I've used all my vacation and sick time this year already (I only get 10 days vacation and 6 of sick time) so I'm not taking any time off for the holidays.

  • So I caught my little one's virus and am SO congested. I have never had a runny nose/mucus like this in my life. It's mind boggling. Is it all the extra fluid we have being pregnant? I haven't taken anything but it's awful. And we are flying across the country tomorrow with a toddler, yay!
@ladythrice do I recall you having this issue recently? Did you find anything you could take to give you some relief? If anyone else has suggestions on how to deal with the leaky faucet of my nose, please let me know. Thanks!
  • @mountainsmama YES!

This is what my OB office says below! We're basically in a sweet spot window, second trimester, where most meds can be taken safely!

  • I have a Q for TTMs, particularly those with 2 close in age (around 2 years apart)-- any tips on a bedtime routine with a newborn and toddler? MH travels a ton for work, so I'm often solo for bedtime duty. I have wondered several times recently how the heck I'm going to manage bath and bedtime with a 2 year old and a newborn by myself. Any tips??

Dh worked 1pm-1am when ds was born. Dd was 3. We have a “bedtime list” of pictures (put toys away, bath, potty, jammies, brush teeth, stories, hugs, kisses, songs, sleep). We still follow it today. (Ds2 follows just like dd6). I would babywear for bath time, then nurse ds and rock dd for songs and stories.  She did the rest of her list independently with minimal prompting. Obviously the list will stay the same. Dh will be home to help more though.

  • @riversdoctor That's a good idea to try and give babywearing a shot for bath time. Thank you!

@lindsye Those are all great tips. Thanks! And yes, I'm sure there will be an involvement of wine some nights. ;)

  • @kbamomma33 DS was 19 months when DD was born. Before DD arrived, we transitioned him from rocking to sleep, to falling asleep in his crib with us in the room, holding his hand or patting his back. If I had to put both kids down solo I'd sit in the rocker in his room, nurse DD and hold DS's hand. I still do this if I'm solo with them. Just hold and rock DD and hold DS's Hand. It's the easiest way to get both calm and asleep for me.
