OPK- remind me how they work- TTC #2

Hi ladies- Hope everyone is well!  I was very active on the TTC boards back in 2015 and learned so much from all of the rookies that are here. So we have a 13 month old son and we are considering TTC #2.  I used OPKS in the past and temped.  I know with temping- in an ideal world- it is supposed to be 1st thing in the AM after at least a consecutive 3 hours of sleep.  But do the OPKS have to be done with the 1st morning urine?? Little man wakes up anywhere from 5- 6AM and it's not always consistent.  He usually is all out crying when he does wake up.  I have to be up around then anyways M-F for work- so it's not a big deal for me to get up and use an OPK if morning urine is best- but sometimes I have to go immediately before I go get him- sometimes I can probably hold it for a few minutes.....I'm just thinking the logistics out of how to do this and make it work the best.  I'm seriously debating on spending the $$ on an Ava bracelet to avoid the whole thing all together- but I'm hesitant to do that also.  Thanks!!

MNturnsVA For serious? Pee in a cup... then go get the kid and dip your strip in after you stop his screaming. 
Read the "Read This First" thread on here. Do an intro in the weekly intro thread. This question definitely should've gone in a regular thread, and not it's own special snowflake post. 
I wish this were my biggest drama with TTC.

OP, I would also like to add to the above, read the instructions that come with the OPK's. Every brand is different. Some require FMU and some specifically say not to use FMU. 

If you decide to stay and contribute to the community, giving and receiving support, please intro in this weeks thread.

by this TW. I'm sure you're all ready to share your expertise with her since she has such a unique and special situation what with her "all out crying as soon as he wakes up" son and all.

Hey @MNturnsVA, here's the thing. I'm new here too and I had the exact same question! So, last week I intro'd on the intro board (imagine that!) and this week i've been participating in the dailies, getting to know the women on here already (who are clearly not 'rookies'; they have lots of great advice!). I waited a week or so to get to know the boards and asked this same question today in the appropriate place. And I did it a bit more tactfully (*TW, kids  i.e. without the added drama of kids, which may upset women who are trying to be in your exact situation. End TW*). 
Wait, why am I bothering? I've been here a week and I should already know that this is just a drive-by. If you couldn't read the instructions, why would you read this?

tamalahoops Clearly we're still here because we're rookies. Maybe NOT knowing how to use OPKs either the first OR second time TTC is actually the way to go? Maybe we just need to barge into various forums and ask questions that could easily be answered by reading the box or simply solved... perhaps that type of insensitivity is actually what creates babies? I mean, being a rookie, despite all the tests and science I've used TTC, maybe I'm just trying to hard? Maybe I just need to relax and let it happen?

I really can’t with this today... OP, if we’re just a bunch of “rookies” than why are you asking us this question? In the time it took you to write this post, you could’ve just read the instructions that come with the OPK. Andplusalso, it’s a little insensitive to come into a group of women who are TTC and talk about your child. Some “rookies” have been TTC for quite a while and probably don’t want to see this.

I usually try not to jump on these threads because the other ladies have done a fabulous job replying.  However, I looked and it sounds like you were great support on the TTGP board when TTC#1.  
so...
1.  please don't complain/discuss your problems of getting your DS in the morning to a forum full of women TTGP.  especially without a TW.   I understand that it seems like a problem to you, but many of us have never had the option to deal with a screaming LO and we would (and probably are) do anything to have that option.  
2.  How is it that you've forgotten that you can't just do a drive-by??  We are not your personal google.  We don't know you.  (except for those who do because they are still here without a screaming LO waking them up from the last time you were here)
3. don't OPK's come with instructions? would it have been easier to read the instructions?  
4.  Also please do not try to defend yourself if you do get to the point of reading these replies.  You hurt our feelings, you interrupted our very supportive forum, and let's be honest you are getting lots of snark because we've had SO many drive-by's this week we are all just over it.  Apologize, introduce yourself and jump into the dailies.  

Lastly, if you do jump into the dailies--please start in the WTO.  I know it's an unfair request, but it just sucks when someone introduces, does a couple of TWW posts and then get's their BFP.  lurk until CD1.

Also, Guys, I was thinking. it would be SO FREAKING COOL if I had used OPKs for such a short period of time that I actually forgot how to use them. Like, I'm pretty sure it's so ingrained in my head I will be 75 years old and still turn around to grab an OPK as I sit to pee. I literally panic if I start to pee directly in the toilet, like, hellllooooo you're on your period. not need to pee on anything.

@MNturnsVA you did this back on TTGP the first time. Have you seriously not learned how to read instructions or Google since then? I hope you get your BFP soon, or else I know you'll be back pestering this board with your endless questions.

Honestly, read the frickin box.  It comes with instructions.  But the general gist is to pee on a stick and look at a line.

And also, as to the rookie comment, TW, I have been pregnant 4 times and trying this round since February.  Technically, I believe I am still pregnant with mutant tumors from my molar pregnancy in September. So not a rookie here!  And unfortunately, many of these fine ladies are much more experienced than me!
And if your kid's crying bothers you that much, try sleep training.  Or pee on a stick, check the results, then get your child.
