My twins have been sleeping together in a pack and play since they came home. We bought it from someone, so it did not come with a mattress or bassinets. To save on space and money, we let them sleep on the firm bottom part with a fitted sheet (for pack and plays). Does anyone else do this? I've had mixed reactions, such as it is too low to bend or they "need" the mattress, to great idea, and the firm bottom is safer. It seems to be working fine, though.
if it works for you they really just need a firm surface to sleep on, it does not have to be a mattress. our twins slept in a PNP for 6 months but we had a larger bassinet top piece (though it was using the same mat that goes on the bottom, so its essentially the same just higher...

Supplemental mattresses should never be added to pack and plays, only the mat that came with it should be used. Babies should, however, have their own sleep space following the ABCs of safe sleep.
