I generally don’t like alcohol decorations.  The “beer:30” “wine o’clock” “I’m a wine-o” “booze makes everything better” decor does not sit well with me. I don’t judge people who have it. I may giggle a bit at a rare one. In general, it isn’t my taste.

I am am sick of drink&paint places. I don’t want some canvas & tempra paint crap hanging all over my walls. Stop having these parties for everything, people. Fun once?  Yup. Enjoyable the second, maybe third time?  Likely. Four or more times?  Over it.

@krashke ditto on wordy decor!  We have that home sign with the state I am from & the one my H is from!!
  • I (for the most part) hate sending and receiving Thank You emails. If it's a legitimate thank you, then it's fine.  but the "Thanks for sending the information" emails is a waste to me.  In our firm / industry it is common practice but my opinion is if i didn't get the information I need then I'll ask for it again.

@jrm_14 I have not once been invited to a wine and paint event, so i'm super jealous you've done so many you're sick of it.  And one of my clients has a studio and does it...I guess i should be the one to plan something, i guess i don't care that much because in the end i feel the same as you that my art is not going to amazing and so it's not something that I HAVE to do in life.

@blackhottamales @krashke There are a couple drink&craft places in town that I’m willing to give a try. Once.
ETA:  mostly the craft part. Other part of my previous UO is I think places that let you drink & paint/craft/whatever and all the alcohol signs contribute to the stigma of people who have substance use disorders. Alcoholism today looks very different than it did even a generation ago. Normalizing drinking at every event or incorporating it into so many aspects of life makes it more difficult for people to realize when there is an issue.

I have never seen nor do I have any desire to see any Nicolas sparks based movie. Nor read his books. I watch movies and read for escapism. Not fatalistic terrible romances engineered to make you cry.  Bring on the action, sci-fi, horror, and urban/ paranormal fantasy.
  • @jrm_14 With you 100% on the homeopathy! I think there are plenty of non-Western approaches to health that do work, but they need to be scientifically investigated and supported! That "allergy test" you describe... somehow I doubt it would stand up to experimental study.
@krashke I hate Black Friday too. I've actually never shopped on that day, and I have no desire to ever do so.

AFM, dogs are cute from a distance, but I generally don't like them. I'd be happy to never have to touch one ever again. The only possibly exceptions are dachshunds and corgis.
  • @darkstar42 I love dogs and I disagree with you but as a respectful dog owner I understand that there are people that don't like dogs or might even be scared of them. Or dogs who can be aggressive. Whenever I take my dog out I keep her on a short leash and I don't let her come up to someone unless they have initiated it. I also will ALWAYS as the owner if I can say hi to their dog and pet them, even if the dog has come up to me first.

  • @SkilledSailor @krashke I know it's a super unpopular opinion! I totally appreciate respectful dog owners, and I certainly pat friends dogs (especially their soft ears). I loved all the cute dog pics people on here posted on the pet thread too. Dog drool just totally grosses me out and I do NOT EVER want a dog to lick me or jump on me. Basically, I like the idea of dogs, but not the reality. :/

I generally classify a lot of homeopathic stuff as hodgepodgory.
    Tw kids mentioned
The family for which I was an au pair often had me take the kiddos to a naturopathic type practitioner. Once, there was this one that stripped the kid down to his diaper, put him head towards the ground, pushed on his belly, and said he was shifting his organs into place. Repeat multiple times. One said eating couscous with buttermilk would cure his feeding disorder. Once, I had to hold the kiddo, hold my arm out to the side while holding a small glass tube labeled whatever (wheat, cat, grass, etc). If the doctor could push my arm down, it meant the kiddo was allergic.
However.....if it works for you, go right ahead. More people should try things that aren’t chemically/pill-based. If oils or whatever help you sleep/breathe/live better, by all means, go ahead.

But please stop telling me that it will cure me of all my ailments, especially an autoimmune disease.
@jrm_14 (Do I still need to tag you if I quote you? I have no idea.) I totally agree with you on the homeopathic stuff but have to say that several years ago when I was suffering badly from eczema for a long time, I did the "hold your arm out to the side while holding a small glass tube" thingy with an acupuncturist. After 5 minutes the acupuncturist diagnosed my allergy when the several dermatologists I had been seeing for months were never able to figure it out. I still don't understand how it worked or if it was total hodgepodgery. *shrug* For those interested, apparently I was allergic to my birth control pills? The acupuncturist said I was allergic to the estrogen in it but that seemed...odd, since my body produces estrogen... But the timeline for when my eczema started totally matched up with when I started taking the pills and went away when I stopped. Must have been some other ingredient in them that I reacted to. Sorry, that was long...

  • @offtoneverland @SkilledSailor. Whatever works, works. I personally have trouble engaging in most alternative medicine due to lack of evidence and substantial efficacy. That being said, again, if it works, probably whatever that dr did for you @offtoneverland was probably “better” than ham whatever dermatology had you slathering in your skin.
I’m conflicted. My head tells me it’s hocus pocus, but then again sometimes it works.
  • @zwink1 yaaaaasss on mutual feelings about 'This Is Us.' I've never watched it- nothing about the trailers appealed to me. I feel like the last 'drama' TV show I was into that didn't have an additional 'hook' (like zombies in 'The Walking Dead') was 'Dawson's Creek.

  • @jrm_14, I am generally very sceptical about homeopathic treatments, but feel like there is some legitimacy to some.  TW. -. Kids.... Both my kids are special needs, one autistic for sure, the other most likely but dealing with explosive mood disorder ( aka bipolar) the last 2 months have been extremely difficult for them.  I recently tried vetiver with them, and it is insane how different their behavior has been.  End TW
@icecubeinthedesert , my boss insists you respond to every single email she sends.  It is infuriating .

@krashke , I hate black Friday and all it represents, I never go out.  TW my mom and I went out 2 years ago for the the first time in many years and I saw a woman die in Walmart.  It was traumatizing.  It added to my hate of black Friday and my hate of Walmart.
I don't mind Christmas before Thanksgiving, in the sense of I will walk through decorations in the store and secretly and in shame listen to some music. Christmas stuff in stores before Halloween is just crazy.

  • @krashke  I'm so with you.  I have to hold off DH on the Christmas music.  He'd play it after Halloween if I let him!  Must hold out until Black Friday, better yet, December 1!  I also would never go out on Black Friday.  I can't deal with that many crazy people at once.

@jrm_14 Totally agree on the homeopathy.  But I work in medicine and research so yeah....show me some studies or I'm not inclined to trust anything.

AFM:  My UO is that I kind of hate Facebook.  So much so that I'm considering deleting my account.
  • @krashke I'm with you!  I also worked at Banana Republic back in the day and I disliked all of the madness of Black Friday.
@quiltandknit  I hear you on Facebook.  I do like seeing updates from extended family or friends from childhood, but most of it is not worth scrolling through on a regular basis.  It's definitely a time suck.
