My OB hasn't mentioned weight gain to me, which is surprising to me. She didn't mention anything to me last time either. I told her that I was starving all the time and she told me to increase my protein intake and to pick up cheese and greek yogurt. I asked about protein shakes and she said no. Not because they are bad, but because they can cause unnecessary weight gain. I think she might have been thinking Adkins shakes, and things like that, where I meant protein powder and fruit, but it's fine.
I struggled with weight gain with DD. I mentioned it somewhere else, but I only gained 18 pounds my entire pregnancy with her, and most of that didn't happen until end of 2nd/3rd trimester. It wasn't that I wasn't eating...I just wasn't gaining, so they were pretty concerned for a while. This time, I'm having the opposite problem! 20 pounds already. My diet isn't too different (I would say I'm actually eating better this time around). It's just crazy how different each pregnancy is.
