  • @muggle621 FFTC: I'm not certified in infant CPR.  :#

(That class was full at the hospital. I've been first aid certified in the past.)

ETA: UO: I also kinda feel like medical professionals are the only people who can perform CPR correctly.

Stuck in quote box...we have to update certifications every two years.  It always baffles me how many healthcare professionals still don't perform the right technique during check-offs.

Also, has anyone noticed how in ACLS we went from many drugs down to only epi now?  The theory in my department is that the other drugs weren't used appropriately, and epi showed the best response alone, but that's just a theory.  The use of one drug leaves less room for error.

I'm adult CPR-certified (I need to be since I give immunizations as a pharmacist). The last time I updated my CPR, I asked the guy to show me some infant techniques. I already forget them.
  • @mdfarmchick I second that...always!
  • @kalawa I guess I lump first responders in with medical professionals bc of the training they get. Medical professionals = medical training?

  • @becausescience I totally understand. I often do the same, and my SO corrects me because he's a firefighter. That's why I was just curious.
  • @becausescience Part of my whole "get certified" thing is my husband is a firefighter so I'm pretty comfortable when he is around. I started down that rabbit hole of everything that could go wrong when he's at work and that's when I decided I needed to get certified. We will probably ask my MIL to keep the baby for the occasional date night so that is when I had the thought to ask her too. I do wonder if I would really do it correctly though if an actual emergency would ever occur.

@DDRRT1982 I didn't even think about tdap!! Calling my husband right now lol.

  • @kiki75 Yeah, calling yourself Mama to me is like a rando saying "Daddy" in a creepy way. But I adore when moms and dads refer to themselves as Mama/Dada for their kids BC I love love love love the way my son refers to us  <3

@muggle621 that's a great idea.  I asked people to update their tdap and you would have thought I was the devil.

My UO is I really can't stand it when women reference themselves as "Mama".  For example, "Mama is hungry!".  I can't pinpoint why it irks me, but I kind of cringe every time i hear it or read it.  People do it a lot, so I imagine this is a definitely an UO.  Oh, and the use of "hubby" makes me cringe too.

I've been doing this a ton, because I NEED DD to say mama. I just want to hear it so badly.
I am definitely more referencing the situations that @kiki75 is mentioning.  I reference myself as Mama occasionally with my kids, but never when speaking about myself to other adults, lol.
  • So... no cute shirts that say "Mama Bear" to match LO's "Baby Bear" shirt? lol
  • @muggle621 when my sister came home from the hospital we all took an infant cpr course(she was born at 28 weeks). I was 11 and my other sister was 9, my parents and my grandparents all took it. I still vividly remember it because I was so scared I was going to need to do it.

I think that is great y'all had to do that, especially since she was born so early!

  • @muggle621 My husband was a lifeguard for 8 years, and had to be certified and up to date on adult and infant CPR. When DS was born, I didn't even think of taking a class, but when he started eating solids I started to freak out a bit, and he taught me the basics. I still thought I would never know what to do if something actually happened, but then I was with my SIL when DS choked on a piece of strawberry and I instantly did what I supposed to...I didn't even know if it was the right thing, but all my in-laws were lifeguards so they've all been trained so SIL knew I was doing the right thing. I was relieved! Also, totally great idea to have everyone take a class. I'm lucky all my in-laws were lifeguards and my mom is a nurse, but if they weren't I'd want them to have some basic knowledge!

I feel exactly the same way. I have no idea why the word Mama bothers me so much!

  • @kiki75 YES! Thank you! A friend of mine has started calling me Mama and it's driving me insane. I'm *9 weeks* pregnant, dude. Stop it.
