Re: Randoms- Week of July 17

  • Is anyone planning on using the Kiinde pumping/feeding system? I'm curious on how many of each thing (bottles, nipples, etc.) are needed to account for feedings at home and daycare. I mean, is it really only a handful of the cases since you are switching out the bags? I cannot see a downside to this system!

@byrneme We are planning on using the Kiinde system. We were fairly conservative with what we ended purchasing because I wanted to make sure it worked out plus there aren't that many parts to wash... Main reason I love this system! We bought the starter kit, slow/medium nipples and bags. overall I have 4 bottles(since no milk touches these can be reused easily with a rinse if needed, 4 slow and 4 medium flow nipples and 80  bags. I figure we will go through bags quickly but I live close enough to target/babies r us or can order in amazon when needed. I plan to start pumping around 3 weeks as long as we have a good enough groove with breastfeeding for at least 1/3 of her feedings. I need to establish a freezer stash and I want my hubby to have that bonding with her as well.

  • @byrneme we are also going to use the Kiinde system. And we were also pretty conservative to start out with. We bought 4 bottles and have just the nipples that came with them. We have 1 box of 80 bags, the warmer, and the conversion connectors to attach the bags directly to my pump.

Thanks @MicronesianMamma! Were you conservative in case pumping period didn't work out? From what I've read- you can change out nipples using the same adapters that allow you to connect to the pump. I'm not sure why but this system makes me giddy. Maybe it's the lack of washing? Your plan is pretty much in line with mine too - 3 weeks, supply and bonding!

  • @byrneme I didn't realize that about the nipples and connectors but I'll test it out! I'm also really excited for me and SO to use it - for the cleaning and b/c it seems super easy to use. I was conservative just in case the system doesn't  work out even though I'm pretty sure it will. If my little man would just make his appreance soon, I can find out! Lol
  • Does anyone know if you can use the Kiinde storage bags with a different pump system? My insurance gave me Medela, but I have heard their freezer bags are less than ideal...

  • @omarismyhomeboy I have the Medela as well and the bags do kind of stink. I am using the lanisoh bags and they are not designed to but you can cut slits in them to use with the Medela they are much better bags

  • @omarismyhomeboy - yes! That's the beauty of this product. I too have the Medela but the adapters they have allow you to pump from almost any pump (adapter specific I think) to their bags. It's the main reason we chose to go to the Kindee system. Once I learned a) it was compatible with my pump and b) you can switch nipples JUST in case I was sold. You can buy 14 adapters only on Amazon for like $6. Buy Buy Baby is also having 25% all Kiindee products right now.

  • Ladies who plan to pump into bags, just wanted to share my observations. I measure out exactly how much I put into each bag and decided against pumping into bags because the markings on them aren't exact and it's hard to tell how many oz's are in each bag without measure in the bottle beforehand. So I freeze in 4 oz quantities, but when I put those 4 oz's into the bag, it doesn't like like that's how much is in there. Just wanted to throw that out.

  • How far off is it? One of the concerns is the amount of loss you get from pouring into bottles/from bags?

  • @byrneme I always pour from bottle into bags and never had any issues. When you pump directly into the bag it's hard to tell how much milk is really in there. I personally don't know how anyone can tell how much is in the bag without measuring in a bottle first. You can take 1 bag and pour a few oz's in there from a bottle and you'll see how much it looks like is in there.
