We won't make any baby buys until the 2nd trimester. We don't plan to have a shower, so we'll focus on the big-ticket items (i.e. travel system, breast pump) first.
Since DS is 9 months old, we have most of the things we need, but will probably buy anything else a few weeks before due date or after. We will have to get a new carseat for DS earlier than that though so this new LO can have his current one...that will definitely be researched.
It's been 5 years since our last baby so we will need to start over from scratch. With the exception of the crib which we are re-converting back to a crib. We're so glad that we at least have that big buy out of the way.
I kept most of our baby gear, toys, and clothes from my son and daughter so I don't need much. I had to get rid of a few things because they either broke or expired, so I will need to buy a new crib, a stroller, and a car seat. Other than that, I won't buy much. I do have an unhealthy obsession with teeny, tiny baby socks so you can bet I will stock up on those even though I have Rubbermaids full of clothes in the basement. I probably won't buy anything until 3rd tri unless there's a really good deal I come across beforehand.
My last BMB had a baby gear thread where FTMs could ask STM+ about what gear was actually useful, so I'm thinking that would be a great thread to start in a little while. There is so much stuff available and you only really use a small fraction of it!

U/S 19May - one bean measuring on track with a HB of 125! EDD: 07Jan2019 Team Green My Rainbow Baby Boy born 03Jan2019
I have started making a list but won't be buying anything for a while. At least not until second trimester. I did get a bundle of size 1 honest company diapers because I got 50% off. Top of my list is a double stroller so I'll be looking out for salea.
All we really need to buy for the new LO is new clothes (a lot of my son's were hand-me-downs that I have already passed on to friends with younger babies), diapers, and car seats/stroller. My son never really used a swing or bouncer but I might buy one for this baby. We plan to start buying slowly over the next few weeks so the purchases are spread out more.
I bought a couple rainbow outfits at Hanna already, they were clearance, and boy rainbow is hard to come by. Once we know boy or girl I'll start to go through and sell or donate stuff we don't need (like wrong seasonclothes or If it's a girl). If it is a girl, well, watch out. Lol.
For gear i dont need much, we need a new play gym thing. I'll see what we have that's isn't usable but I doubt I ended much gear, and what I do have my sisters may be able to lend.
I think we have mostly everything we need. We don't really need a bed yet because we have a pack n play. We saved everything else from DD. So probably just gender neutral clothing.
Yes !!! A @tosh24 and @muggle621 a useful buys would be so great!! I will prob get some stuff clothes and toys and such from my SIL but we will prob research and look into big ticket items first ( Stroller car seat carrier ) ftm over here so we have nothing!
I'm also a STM+ and would be happy to help provide guidance there, too. We bought wayyyy too much the first time around and learned quickly what you really need vs. what you don't.
STM here, more than willing to give an opinion on what is and is not necessary, however it can absolutely vary by baby!
I have most of the gear needed since my DD is 19 months, but we'll be purchasing some needed things after we find out the sex (convertible car seat). And replacing a couple of others, for example we were gifted a Mamaroo that our DD hated. I've sold it on FB and plan on buying a normal baby swing. But mostly clothes, whether it's a girl or boy because my DD was born in December, so different wardrobe season.
Definitely waiting till the 2nd trimester then we will start clearing out babies room and making purchases my daughter is only 1 so we have all her stuff left over. Of course if it's a boy we might have to get more new stuff considering she has mostly pink. The only thing we will need is a double stroller, crib since my daughter still sleeps in hers, and a convertible car seat we have an infant carrier car seat the baby will be in at first so we will wait until after the babies here for a few months before buying a convertible.
A thread on useful buys would be soooo helpful. One of my best friends sent me a google doc with all of her favs and unnecessary buys, and that has been super helpful in the planning phases. I'll have a baby shower, but planning the timing on that will be interesting as my family and friends are spaced over the NE and I'm having a winter baby!
Our kid is 2 and we didn't find out the gender until she was born so we have all that stuff but diapers, diapers, diapers! After ultrasound confirms I'll be doing amazon subscriptions to stock up!
Any STM thinking of buying a second seat for their strollers? We have an uppababy vista...anyone have any experience with the rumble seat add-on? I would like to avoid buying a dedicated double stroller, since DS will be 2.5 when baby arrives, I'm not sure how often he will be in the stroller anyways. TIA!
We purged the majority of things from the first child. I found the majority of it to be a waste of space and money. We may buy a double stroller closer to EDD, I will get a Halo bassinest and new nipples as well. We will be using his old infant car seat. I'm doing as close to bare necessities this time around. Once I'm in the second trimester I'll start subscribing to diapers on amazon for 1's and 2's
I still have all the things left from my DS, so I want a double stroller. I'm trying to decide between a side by side or an inline but I already know what brand ((Mtn Buggy)) I want. Eventually I'll need to buy another set of convertible car seats for our cars but I have an infant seat leftover from him. And instead of a bassinet, I want a mini crib. My parents are using the one I had for DS. I haven't decided if we will buy a new regular crib or just move DS to a big bed. I have probably at least a year to decide. DS slept in the mini crib in our room until about 8 or 9 months. We only moved him over because I was spending two months visiting my family in the summer and I needed him to sleep in his own room there. I also want to sell my stroller and buy the new version of it. It's only a single but we travel a lot and it's less than 20 lbs, and perfect for the airport and travel. The new version folds up a little smaller.
With baby #3, we pretty much have what we need. SO my baby buy is a vehicle that will fit us all. Otherwise I'll just have to eenie-meenie-mynee-mo and leave one at home each time...
Two cents on the double stroller: we had an inline double gifted to us and it was really difficult to maneuver compared to the side-by-side. We have a double BOB (side-by-side) and we got it because we love our single BOB. Our DD was 26 months old when DS was born, and we still use the double BOB when we do long days at a zoo, fair, etc. She's almost four now, so I'd say the double was a good purchase for us!
@LiveNLove44 Thanks! I was thinking the side by side might be easier to maneuver. The one I'm looking at is actually one of the more narrow frames so I don't think it will feel huge either. ((Going to Amazon now to put it in my cart. For the next 9 months to a year ))
We'll need to get a double stroller and furniture for the new baby's room. I'll probably hold off on getting many clothes since we're team green and we have some gender neutral basics from DS. We'll probably wait until late in the 2nd trimester to get most things since this baby will live in what is now our guest room. If we find a steal on the stroller we want, we'll probably snag it though.
@sar_bear we have the vista too and will get the second seat. I hear mixed reviews so hopefully it'll work out and we won't have to drop more money on a side by side. We're not really a stroller family so I think it'll work out. We just bought a summer infant 3D one umbrella stroller for the 2 year old for our trip to Mexico...I see myself mostly using that and wearing the baby more instead. Can't wait to use all my wraps and carriers again!!
any babywearers up in here? Maybe we can start a thread at some point to geek out on carriers and help the FTMs with selection and basics of wearing.
I'm very interested in learning more about baby wearing I would like to get a good carrier so I can baby wear! So I would totally be in for a thread like that @isntthatspeshul

Yes! That's one of the thr few things I'll need, a new sling for the squish. I'll probably sell my Tula and pick a new one out too.

Agreed! I have a single and double bob too and love them
We still have almost everything we need, but clothes. My daughter was a December 2014 baby so most of the clothes are out of season. And if it's a boy we will need all new clothes. I cloth diapered my daughter, so we have most of the diapers. I'll probably do disposables the first month or so and we'll have to buy those.
@isntthatspeshul, yes! I would to wear all my babies...I will be a FTM. (Seems like a lot of STM+ have posted.) So, I like to be super organized and as prepared as I can...
I have two close friends who recently had babies who will be passing they're babies things onto me. Woo hoo! I am a regular Primer. I bought some baby things on Amazon Prime this past Tuesday. I plan to stalk websites throughout the year looking for the best deals. I bought the Baby Bargains book on the recommendation of a good friend. So I'll be reading that. And of course, I'll look for all the recommendations from the STM+'s!
