Exercise Check-in 6/5

Note: I know this is for Thursday (or Friday), but we haven't had one since March, and I am wanting to discuss where people are at.

How far along are you?

How many times did you workout last week and what's your goal for this week?

What exercises are you doing now?

What are you healthy eating goals?

GTKY: What has surprised you about fitness during pregnancy?

Re: Exercise Check-in 6/5

  • How far along are you? 32 weeks tomorrow

How many times did you workout last week and what's your goal for this week? Daily - repeat

What exercises are you doing now? Yoga 4 days, walking 2-3/day (15 minutes at a time is my max because of hip pain), body weight exercise X 20 minutes X 1.

What are you healthy eating goals? Trying to portion my ice cream. My stomach is so small now, I don't need huge portions, I'm just so hungry!

GTKY: What has surprised you about fitness during pregnancy? How de-conditioned I feel despite daily activity. The shortness of breath. Losing ground on push-ups (I think because my body is so heavy?). It feels weird.

  • Thanks for starting this!

How many times did you workout last week and what's your goal for this week? I got in 5 mile runs on Mon/Fri/Sat and a 3 miler on Weds. I did a yoga class on Saturday as well and tried to stretch while "dancing" with my toddlers on Tues/Thurs night. Hoping for more of the same this upcoming week.

What exercises are you doing now? See above

What are you healthy eating goals? I have been trying to avoid most gluten and dairy thanks to severe constipation this pregnancy. Sometimes meat also backs me up so there have been a lot of fruits/veggies in my life. My stomach still isn't close to 100%, but much better than after a week of not watching what I eat.

GTKY: What has surprised you about fitness during pregnancy? I am very happy to still be running, and this kid seems to love it. My legs have been feeling somewhat anemic if I do too much running too close together, but on the flip side the relaxin must be kicking in because yoga has felt awesome. I am trying to shift more to walking/yoga as my body tells me to. I feel so blessed that it is finally getting nice up here in MA and I don't mind replacing running with some walking meditation.

How many times did you workout last week and what's your goal for this week?
I exercised 5 times last week and hope to exercise 5-6 times this week.

What exercises are you doing now?
21 Day Fix and running 3 miles twice per week.  Running is starting to get pretty uncomfortable though so I may have to scale back to walking or walking/running.

What are you healthy eating goals?
Eat more vegetables and fewer carbs and eat less at night.  The evenings and weekends are my downfall.

GTKY: What has surprised you about fitness during pregnancy?
I'm impressed that I've been able to still run.  I gave it up by 26 weeks last time.  I'm also surprised that I've been able to stay as active as I've been and keep up with a lot of my pre-pregnancy exercises.  Even though I'm still gaining a lot of weight like my other pregnancies, I think staying active has been a huge reason why this has been my easiest pregnancy.

How many times did you workout last week and what's your goal for this week? I think only 3 times. I shoot for 4x a week. However, I also walk over 2 miles a day 5x a week just because of my daily commute, and that totally counts.

What exercises are you doing now? Besides all the walking, at the gym I do 20 minutes on the elliptical and another 20 minutes of weight training. I did stop running just because I hate feeling like I have to pee the second I start moving! Weights are whatever I feel like doing- I was never one to have a "routine" but I do what my body feels like it needs to do. I've worked with personal trainers in the past so have a pretty big repertoire of machines, free weight, and body-weight exercises to choose from.
The other day I did side planks- something I do maybe once every week or two- and nearly toppled over. Completing 3 reps of 10 seconds each, each side, was harder than ever. Side planks are supposed to be good for preggos but I'm adjusting to being front-heavy. Hah! Oh, and last week I also discovered my baby bump is exactly the size of our 10-12 pound medicine balls. I wish I had my camera handy for that.

What are you healthy eating goals? Everything in moderation.

GTKY: What has surprised you about fitness during pregnancy? I never conceptualized just how my endurance would be shot to hell. Even getting through a regular workout now, I can do the full workout, but it takes me longer. However, because I've done more weights than cardio, I'm actually increasing my strength in my arms and legs. That's pretty cool!

How far along are you? 29 weeks

How many times did you workout last week and what's your goal for this week? Nothing formal except swimming yesterday - just got back from our trip to visit our parents and had excruciating RLP that kept me from moving much - Dr. said it was probably because I was so active the week before so even when I felt like I could work out 4-5 days later, I wanted to take it easy to enjoy the rest of our trip. Hoping to get back into it now with 3-5x a week

What exercises are you doing now? Swimming, walking, yoga, prenatal videos

What are you healthy eating goals? I've been pretty healthy - comfortable sticking with my 80/20 healthy and not-quite-so-healthy foods. Some days I'm too lazy/full to have an unhealthy treat.

GTKY: What has surprised you about fitness during pregnancy? How painful my body finds running/walking. The pelvic soreness after even just a day of light errands is not something I expected (and sounds like it's not the case for everyone).

  • Mine is exactly the same as @aehogan90. I have a torn meniscus on top of it, but hey, you gotta power through

How many times did you workout last week and what's your goal for this week?

None last week...sooooo busy with my son's end of the year school stuff. This week, I'm shooting for 3, but that may or may not happen.

What exercises are you doing now?

Still doing CrossFit style workouts with a lot of modification and far less weight on my barbell. :-(

What are you healthy eating goals?

I haven't been hungry or craved anything this pregnancy, so it's been weird. I'm trying to just stay away from fast food crap.

GTKY: What has surprised you about fitness during pregnancy?

I started this pregnancy in better shape than I'd ever been in, and it threw me for a total loop how awful I felt during first tri (never felt bad with the previous two pregnancies) and how completely exhausted my
    body is this time around.

I've had to learn to give myself a LOT of grace.
  • @kvh22 Oh my gosh! YES! My pubic bone feels like it might crack in half after a day of running around! So so sore!
  • How far along?   30 weeks

What are your fitness goals for this week and next week?

Maintain running 3 - 4 miles at least 2X per week, 3 if I have time. I ran 3 miles today, will squeeze in another 3 miles tomorrow or Thursday hopefully outside if the weather isn't slippery and wet. The last thing I need is to fall, f that.

    What exercises are you doing?
Yoga 1 day, running 2-3 days. Living life with 2 kids 24/7 lol.

What are your healthy eating goals?
Not really healthy, but I switched to Kashi cereal for breakfast over eggo waffles (my favorite in the world), 13g of fiber per serving and it's made me regular like clock work. It's also good to have the daily milk with it, I don't have much otherwise. The constipation just had to be kicked to the curb.

GTKY: What has surprised you about fitness this pregnancy?
The bad RLP I had weeks 20ish- 28. It has recently gotten better since I switched belts but it slowed down my pace hardcore. I'm sticking to low mileage anyway, but that didn't help my cause. I hadn't had to deal with RLP until I was like 34/35 weeks with my first 2, crazy how each pregnancy truly is different.

  • How far along are you? 29w 6d

How many times did you workout last week and what's your goal for this week? 6 days last week... I aim for a little something every day.

What exercises are you doing now? Lots of elliptical and some walking and light weights.

What are you healthy eating goals? Trying to eat more vegetables and less carbs.

GTKY: What has surprised you about fitness during pregnancy? That I'm still making the time and effort almost daily. The heat is kicking in and I have no plans to wake up early to get my workout in and I go to bed after I get dd down so most of my workouts are in the afternoon when it's the peak heat. I take it day by day. I'm sure the none work out days will start to outweigh the workouts and that's fine.

  • How far along are you? 29 weeks 3 days

How many times did you workout last week and what's your goal for this week? last week was 5x - all pure barre. This week is 5x.

What exercises are you doing now? Still at Pure Barre but also incorporating walking and some Country Heat cardio (modified)

What are you healthy eating goals? Less carbs & sugar, more green leafy vegetables, eat small meals often.

GTKY: What has surprised you about fitness during pregnancy? I'm actually still going strong even at 29 weeks! Last pregnancy with DS in 2014 I stopped working out at like 5 months in because of the fatigue and if I did go it was 2-3x max a week.

  • Very impressed with all these ladies who are still running! Not that I ran before I was pregnant, but the one day I accidentally took a few jogging steps (DH was pulling me across a busy intersection), I almost peed myself. No running for me.
