Re: Weekly Appointments 6/5

  • I have an appointment Friday. Getting an ultrasound and a normal 32 week check.

  • I go Wednesday for a regular appointment and ultrasound to recheck my placenta and baby's growth. I think they're going to draw blood, too and recheck bile levels as cholestasis doesn't always test positive at the onset of symptoms. Fingers crossed it's negative again.

  • It's rhogam week for me (bloodwork & shot) and a regular OB appt Wednesday.
  • I have an OB appointment this week.  Im on every other week appointments now.  Hoping that the protein in my urine is going down.  I know my swelling has gone down, so Im hoping that will correlate to the protein.

  • My appt day is weird this week. I have ultrasound at 11 and ob/injection at 130. They were booked for ultrasound all around my appt time. Probably will be missing an optional staff mtg at 2 but my visits with the Dr face to face are five mins tops (anyone else?), So I can probably make it. I work at 3 so it's nice that appts don't interfere with work schedule. Either way, Thursday is a busy day!
  • I have a 32 week ultrasound appt to recheck babies kidneys. I'm excited to see the little guy and get everything rechecked, check position, and see what they are guessing for size (which is know is notoriously WAY off...I side eye when everyone starts talking about how big their baby will be and then everyone ends up with 7-8 lb babies).

Little part of me is of course nervous they will see something wrong but trying to focus on checking on him.
  • Had my 30 week appt and ultrasound today. Brought MIL and my two SD, along with DH.  Girls looooved getting to see their lil brother! I'm measuring a week early, but fundal height is spot on, which I don't understand (I'm at 30+5, measured at 30 in).

Other than that, everything looked great and Austin is head down, although Dr. said he could still change position. Next appt in two weeks, starting to feel super real now!

  • Had a short and sweet appointment today. Heartbeat sounds good and I'm measuring at 31 inches. Got a Tdap shot so my arm is sure to be sore for the next day or two. We also scheduled the next several appointments. I'm so glad I have summer off from work--everything is mid-morning once school is out and will make the commute so much shorter.

@pinkyswife  I also had to schedule a 32 week ultrasound to recheck my baby's kidneys. I had the ultrasound this morning.  I am hoping that the size estimate is way off because it looks like I will be having a giant baby if it is correct. My little guy is estimated to be in the 98th percentile for weight. I have already been told that I'll need a follow-up growth scan because he is measuring so big.

How were the kidney's? I'm a little nervous but heard it's pretty common and even the worse case scenario isn't that bad. More common in boys too and most resolve on their own.

You might totally have a big baby but in my experience everyone I've known that was told they were having a giant baby had "normal" size ones. The guesses can be off 2-3lbs or something crazy. But who knows...I feel so much bigger this pregnancy so I'm interested if they think he's bigger too.

@pinkyswife  I find out the official results tomorrow for the kidneys, but it looks like the kidney measurements were within the normal range at this scan. It looks like the kidney dilation has resolved because I was told that the cut-off for kidney dilation at 32 weeks is 8 mm and the measurements today were less than 8 mm. I was told that it was common for boys to have dilated kidneys at around 20 weeks and that it usually resolves by 30 weeks, so I was hopeful going into the scan and I knew in my head that worst case scenario is manageable.

  • So as I was getting myself and DS ready for my appointment they call and ask if I mind going to their other location because the ultrasound machine is down and I was scheduled for one today. Sure, no problem. I get there 5 minutes early, wait 45 minutes, have ultrasound, finally get to leave a urine sample after nearly peeing myself midultrasound.  I normally pee first thing at the office I always go to. Then I have to sit in the waiting room again and finally I get called to  room.  I almost passed out stepping on the scale because I was so hot and it's not easy keeping a toddler entertained and calm that long. Everything is good, baby is measuring in the 72nd percentile.
  • I'm so happy that my baby is now head down! Now hopefully she stays that way because I very much want a vaginal birth. I'm on makena to help with preterm labor, and today my cervix was the shortest it's been, though still long. I hope this means my body is preparing itself and I won't need an induction.
Baby was a stinker during ultrasound...the tech let us get a 3d peak but she had her arm by her face the whole time.
  • Today's appointment was not what I expected. Had an ultrasound and because of baby's heart rate got to do a NST test. They didn't like the results so I got sent to the hospital for more monitoring. Baby is fine, but I have warning signs for preeclampsia so I get twice a week appointments for the rest of the pregnancy.

Oh no, how scary! Fingers crossed this is all just precaution and doesn't escalate into pre-e!

  • @Kathryn0903 I'm so sorry! :o Bi-weekly appts sound rough. Hope the office is close to home at least? Stay hydrated & rest, mama! Sending good vibes your way.
  • Hey, FTM here with a question about the appointments in the home stretch. I am 32+1 and have my next appointment on Tuesday (so 32+5). There are appointments every two weeks from there on out.

What to expect? Everything has been super normal (my 20 week ultrasound, she measured at 51 percentile for growth); decent blood pressure, no GD, only a smidge low on iron. All completely, utterly normal, so nothing so far that's prompting any additional monitoring.

Sometimes I hear people talk about, oh at such-and-such week I was x% effaced and y dilated... Is it normal for doctors to start checking your cervix in the last month or so? How do they do that? What else is going to happen at these checkups provided things continue normally?

    Thanks!

My office does it slightly different,  but I'm sure it's the same general idea...
Starting at 28 weeks i go every other week for a routine checkup.
At 36 weeks, they do an ultrasound to check size and placement of baby, and they chrck for Group B Strep. At this point they also start doing internal checks... this is basically when they stick their hands up to check your cervix.  Uncomfortable but not too painful.  They have me go every week from here on out for routine checkup plus internal check.   With DS, he was measuring so big (7lbs15oz) at my 36 week scan that they had me go in a second time each week for an NST.  They intended to do another ultrasound at 38 weeks bc of his size, but I went into labor at that point.

All offices do things slightly different.  I would ask your OB at your next appointment what their plan is so that you have an idea.

  • @DeansGirl14 I start going weekly at 36 weeks. They will begin cervical checks then and that is done by hand (doctor's fingers in your cervix) and they usually check for group b strep around 36 weeks. That's done with a swab.

@Kathryn0903 I'm so sorry. Sending positive thoughts and hugs your way!
  • Thanks guys! I'm a little freaked out about the preeclampsia symptoms especially being a FTM who suffers from white coat syndrome. Thankfully with the twice weekly appointments both the hospital and my doctor are only 10 minutes away. They already talked about the possibility of an early delivery and it's so scary considering that could come as soon as 5 weeks from now.

  • @Kathryn0903 I'm glad you're at least close to the hospital so the 2x weekly appointments won't be too much of an inconvenience. Praying everything resolves itself and you won't need an early delivery. Keep us updated!  <3

@Kathryn0903, so sorry to hear that. It sounds like you will be very well monitored so that is good.
@DeansGirl14, my office normally starts appts every 2 weeks at 28 weeks and then weekly appts at 36 with internal checks. I have had early labor symptoms with both of my kids between weeks 32-34 so my internal checks started around that time. I never even made it to my 36 week appt with my first because she was born early in the AM on the day it was schedule,

  • I had an appointment on Friday, and he wants me to have a sonogram in 2 weeks to check baby's size.

I'm not extremely worried, because he said it was obvious the baby was growing, and I have a history of having smaller babies (both my kids were 6 pounders) and he is sure that's it, but he wants to cover his bases.

He is a VERY involved Ob and really checks everything and seems to care a lot. I didn't have that with my last Ob, so it's very nice. The level of care he gives compared to my previous provider is incomparable.

My iron was also low and I have to start taking a supplement.,.as if I need another reason to be constipated! Lol!
  • I had my 30 wk appointment yesterday and my mom came with because DH is out of town and I didn't like the dr I was supposed to see. The doctor I ended up seeing was my primary but was super cranky and after the 4th time of saying I'm flying next weekend he tells me I shouldn't be driving down to Texas and I will need to fly if I'm going to go. Then when he went to listen to the heartbeat with the Doppler, he had it on for 2 seconds so we really only heard 2 beats of the heartbeat and was like well it's there, schedule your next appointment for 2 weeks and walked out. I'm going to chalk it up to him just having a rough start that day since I know it started with a c-section but yikes...
