I find this topic really interesting...and its more common than you might think. A National Study done in 2010 showed that 31% of men experienced "couvade" or sympathetic pregnancy while their partner was pregnant.
(Apparently) Symptoms such as....nausea, heartburn, abdominal pain, bloating, appetite changes, respiratory problems, toothaches, leg cramps, backaches, and urinary or genital irritations, sleeping patterns, anxiety, depression, reduced libido and restlessness are normal with Sympathetic Pregnancy.
I can say for sure my hubby is! Sleep disturbances, eating alot more, gaining weight, food cravings, feeling nauseated when i was, headaches and tiredness.
I've been saying that it's his "pregnancy" when he's been acting weird.
My husband definitely thinks he's pregnant! He gets moody and clingy, emotional, nauseous.. He gains more weight during pregnancy than I do! Aren't men funny?
No. My husband has been the opposite, and it's annoying lol. He got up at 4:30 am to go to the gym and is now out having drinks with work. I'm sure he will come home and have boundless energy and tell me how amazing he feels for said 4:30am workout. Or tell me he's tired and expect pity. Can you tell I am moody today? Lol
Haha... he DID cry his eyes out at the sight of a newborn baby when I was watching The Business of Being Born the other night. Usually I'm the one who cries at cute babies.
@bcashaw I found it interesting, but a bit problematic. Like giving us stats for the decrease in home births in the US, but not for the decrease in mortality (since the early 1900's!) If I was having a singleton, I'd want to go to the birthing center they show in the movie, which is actually in my hospital, but you're automatically disqualified with multiples. Most midwives won't consider taking on multiples, either. So it was a little irrelevant to my situation. But the births were totally fascinating to watch!
@bklynchica yeah I think midwives won't do high risk and the consider twins to be automatically high risk. Also the stats don't really apply to me as I'm in Canada and midwifery is much more popular here than it is in the states I started watching another one that's a movie and a show but I can't remember what it's called me I never got to finish because life.. I think it was called the miracle of life, or something like that.
Hm...I had started one too that was on Netflix. The one where they talk about each stage of development and then show you how everything can go wrong! Was it that one?
@bklynchica honestly it could have been. My best friend and I have the tendency to pause things everytime anyone says anything that makes us think of something and have a 15 min chat about it. I don't even think we made it past the first episode and we watched it like 3 times. I'll ask her what it was because it's saved on her account Eta: this was all before I got pregnant as well. I haven't touched a book or watched a TV show on pregnancy of childbirth since
Mine totally is. I didn't realize this was a thing but when I was early on he actually said "I think I'm pregnant also". He was urinating all the time, sleeping poorly, and crampy. It's nice for them to share the load sometimes....
During my first pregnancy DH lost like 30 pounds and got super ripped. It was the rudest thing ever. This time he's not working out as much but definitely not gaining sympathy weight either.
Not really, but he did eat my peanut butter pie the other day(that I was saving) and when I asked why he would eat my pie, he said "I have cravings too... you know...sympathetic pregnancy and all that."
I could have have stabbed him lol. But that's the only real instance.
Re: Is your DH/SO "pregnant" too?
