We didn't find out the sex, so we're thinking Preston Lee for a boy, and my hubby has a "secret" name which I think is Brooklyn for a girl....what do you think?

Brooklyn is just a dumb name, period. FYI - no one will ever take a girl named Brooklyn seriously in life.

I agree with PP. I like the name Preston, but it does have the argyle-sweater wearing frat boy feel to it (I loved Preston from Can't Hardly Wait though!). I agree with Brooklyn not being taken seriously. Way trynndy. Brooke=nice name, Brooklyn=ugh.

I do get that preppy boy image when I hear Preston. It's okay. I don't like Lee.

 Brooklyn is trendy and ugly IMO. Brooke is better.

Not a fan of Preston.  I love Brooklyn.  First time I heard it was at a Mommy and me music class and I thought it was odd, but the kid was so cute that the name became perfect for her.  I think it's silly to presume if one will be taken seriously based on a name- I have know ridiculous people with perfectly official and yuppy-appropriate names, and have known people with different names who were treated  like the professionals they were.  Also, by the time our kids are grown, there will be less stigma attached to names that aren't Joseph, Michael or Jane.

I think that any name that is also a well known city is a tough one. I think it can be cute, but my first thought is that it's a borough in NYC.

I also see Preston as some yuppy sweater of the shoulders type.  Right up there with 'Blaine'

Brooklyn is trendy. I'd go with Brooke myself.

preston is definitely pretentious and stuffy sounding, but at least it will serve him well as he gets older. ?[shrug]

and as for the girl name - why does your husband have to keep it a secret? ?that's lame. ??

Brooklyn is a place not a name. Please give your child an actual name!!

Preston is NMS but at least its a real name...

Sidenote: how on earth would you be ok with your husband choosing a name for your child without your input... and even beyond that... not telling you????? Heck no!

Preston Lee is cute. 

And, I would never be ok with not knowing a name DH was wanting to use.  We both have to agree on the name before we would use it.

Husband is waiting to the "right" time to tell me. He knows that if I don't like it, then we won't use that name.

 I'm not even sure if Brooklyn is really the name, just a guess.
