  • How far along are you? 16+4

When is your next appointment? A/S on April 24

    Cravings/Symptoms? Snot :( (a symptom, not a craving :D

Rants/Raves/Randoms? I'm on holiday for a weeks starting this afternoon!! And the a/a is on the first day back to work so there's actually something to look forward to :D

    Questions?

pregnancy GTKY: what has been the most awkward thing so far? Probably going for a Transvag u/s in a shirt and pants....they don't give you a sheet to cover here lol. I learned quick to wear a dress so I could cover myself as long as I wanted lol

NBR GTKY: camping or hotel?? Bit of both? I like camping, especially campfires and smores but sometimes a little luxury and pampering is nice too haha

  • How far along are you?  18+5

When is your next appointment?  End of the month, plus a/s

Cravings/Symptoms?  Nothing much this week!  Nausea is gone, my appetite is back

Rants/Raves/Randoms?  Everything is going well this week.  I went to see my personal trainer last night, and felt like I actually put in a lot of effort for the first time since I found out I was pregnant.  Not having nausea does that for you!  DH and I are planning a small weekend getaway in July, while my parents have DS for a couple weeks, and I'm very excited.

    Questions?

pregnancy GTKY: what has been the most awkward thing so far?  Probably nausea.  Sometimes I just went green, and it was usually due to really strong smells, food or otherwise.

NBR GTKY: camping or hotel??  While pregnant, hotel.  Not pregnant, I love camping!

  • @BigBadWolf12 I was just reading my 16 week update last night and they always mention symptoms you may be experiencing now and snot was one of them.

@ColoradoHiker Yay for nausea being gone! I'm sure that's a great feeling.

How far along are you? 16+4

When is your next appointment? Just had my glucose test Tuesday. A/S is scheduled for May 2nd.

Cravings/Symptoms? Still slightly nauseous in the evenings, but definitely more tolerable. Energy is back, and I realized that yesterday was the first time in what feels like forever that I did not dry heave a single time!

Rants/Raves/Randoms? AC is out in my car and it feels like a sauna. DH and I are debating whether to get it fixed or trade it in.

    Questions?

pregnancy GTKY: what has been the most awkward thing so far? - Throwing up or dry heaving in public.

NBR GTKY: camping or hotel?? - Hotel! I do not camp! This statement as always makes me sound high maintenance, but I need a shower, often! And toilet paper!

  • How far along are you?

    17+4

    When is your next appointment?

4/20 regular monthly check and 4/28 AS

    Cravings/Symptoms?

Snot ramping up here too, also when will the puking stop!  Every morning almost without fail I throw up... still food aversions, which I assumed were gone until I tried chicken last night... otherwise, energy up and getting moving bc it's nice outside.

    Rants/Raves/Randoms?

Ohh I weighed myself today and I may or may not have gained 11lbs this month.  That is not a good thing.  With any luck the scale was just absurdly wrong but we will see next week.

Getting nursery together is  if fun!

Sunday is Easter and I love ham!

    Questions?

pregnancy GTKY: what has been the most awkward thing so far?

Probably my 3 yo trying to climb under the sheet to "be a ghost" during my transvag ultrasound.  I almost fell off the bed..

    NBR GTKY: camping or hotel??

Hotel kinda girl or at least a camper.  I don't mind the outdoors but I'm not sleeping that close to the bugs and dirt.

  • @dogdisnylovr I second the need for a toilet paper and also a toilet.  My butt should not be that close to bugs and dirt either.
  • @juliebeannn Omg! I just giggled way too much about your automatic toilets. That's so unfortunate!

How far along are you? 17+1

When is your next appointment? First week of May when i hit 20 weeks

Cravings/Symptoms? Not a whole lot going on right now.  Still tired, and have growing pains & RLP.  But thats about it.

Rants/Raves/Randoms? Telling our parents we're having a little girl this weekend!!!  We haven't announced on social media, and I wasn't necessarily wanting to, but now that we know the gender I kind of want to.

Questions?  I'm a FTM and I'm really struggling with the stroller thing.  At first i kind of thought of getting the frame and car seat and a separate stroller.  But that ends up being more expensive then just buying the "travel" option, so why not just get that.  And I can't believe how much people will spend on these things.  We're not strapped for cash by any means, but spending over $600 on a stroller seems crazy to me.  :#

pregnancy GTKY: what has been the most awkward thing so far? I've had it pretty easy i think!  No vomiting in public or intense nausea.  First trimester gas was pretty terrible, smell wise.  Glad that's over with!

NBR GTKY: camping or hotel?? I don't mind "glamping", at a site with flushable toilets & using an air mattress. Backpacking is fine occasionally, and for like a weekend, but i would not be interested in a longer trip.  :|

  • Glucose results came back today, and I passed the glucose test. However, apparently they also did another screening that tests for abnormalities. Mine came back with a high risk of down syndrome. Dr. asked that I come back in for another blood draw to have a Panorama done. I asked about this a few weeks ago and always wondered why I never got one offered to me when it seemed everyone else has had it done. Currently freaking out over the test results. It's going to be a long 2 week wait.
  • How far along are you? 16 Week 1 Day

When is your next appointment? Tomorrow. Ultrasound :)

Cravings/Symptoms? Nipple pain, tension headaches, heartburn, food aversions....gagging /puking in the morning on build up mucus.

Rants/Raves/Randoms? Happily avoiding reading about birthing and baby....but figuring at some point I am going to need to kick into gear.

  • @BecauseLove I forgot about nipple sensitivity, I'm having that too.  I'm having trouble in the shower when the stream of water hits me.  It hurts so much.  :s   I get 3 months with partial to full pay.  I'm considering taking an additional 2 months of unpaid leave.  My DH only gets 5 days of "paternity leave" and then he's saving all of his vacation.  I've brought up him taking unpaid FMLA, but we'll see what comes of that.  I'd love to be able to wait until 6 months to put baby in daycare.

  • @dogdisnylovr so sorry to hear about the possible abnormalities. Fingers crossed it was a false positive and everything go smoothly from here on out
  • @BigBadWolf12 Lucky you, having a week off!  Also, um, no cover for a transvag u/s?  No thank you.  Talk  about awkward.
@dogdisnylovr My AC is out too.  We have to wait until after the baby is born to get a new car.  I'm threatening DH with death if it isn't fixed soon.  Summer is coming in Maryland, and i'll be a very unhappy pregnant lady if I don't have AC in my car.  Also, yay for passing the GD test!  And try not to worry about the Downs results yet.  Did you have an NT scan?  Did it have a normal measurement?  Having a 'high risk' come back on the test doesn't mean the baby absolutely has Downs.  Also, the more advanced testing is generally reserved for women who are AMA, or have had difficulties getting/ staying pregnant in the past.  If you're healthy, have no family history or history of loss, and are under 35, you more than likely wouldn't have them done.
@juliebeannn That is possibly the most disgusting thing I've ever heard in my life.  Blech.  I guess you've developed lightning fast reflexes, lol.
@Cats*in*space It really depends on what will work best for you.  You can get the stroller/ infant car seat combos as well.  We used the frame stroller until DS outgrew the car seat.  We could tell it was time for a regular stroller, anyway, bc he wanted to sit up more and watch while in the infant one, which is a more reclined position.  Also, honestly, we got our 'big' stroller at a consignment sale.  You can get nice ones for $30, online and in person.  Or, umbrella strollers are a cheap alternative as well.  No one says you have to buy a $200 stroller!
@BecauseLoveWhat diapers did stm+ like?- I preferred Pampers when DS was a newborn, and Target diapers when he was older.  We still only use Pampers for overnight diapers, and switch off between the two.  Target usually has great prices.  But, it will come down to what fits your baby the best.
Anything you wouldn't take as a hand me down from a friend for baby?  Not really.  If you are close friends, I would accept a car seat that is not expired.  Maybe not a really old crib, or bumpers.  The cribs with the pull down sides are no longer considered safe.
How long are you planning to take off for maternity leave?  Hopefully 10-12w.  Depends on how much money we save, and if I get STD insurance.
How long is your significant other taking off for leave? 1-2w.

@ChefRamsay I can see how people would not think this one was planned, given your previous insistence on 1.  Do you mind if I ask what changed your minds?  Based on your ticker info, it looks like you and your DH were pretty young when you had your DD, that's a decent gap between kids!

  • @ColoradoHiker Thank you! I am trying not to stress too much over it, but it's really hard. I am honestly not sure what screening was done as I thought only a glucose test was being done. But someone else mentioned that their OB does a screening along with the glucose test. Apparently mine did as well, I just don't know what it was called. So the call telling me an increased risk threw me for a loop since I was only expecting glucose test results. I am none of what you mentioned other than "healthy," being over weight to some may constitute as not healthy. I am praying hard that the Panorama comes back normal.
  • @dogdisnylovr I think you had the same test I have had done at my first tri u/s.  With DS and this LO, I did a finger prick blood test that they then mailed out to a lab.  I don't know the name of it, but it checks for your chances of having a Trisomy disorder.  For example, with DS it came back that our chances of him having Downs were 1:10,000 or something like that.  In other words, low risk.  I don't know what it was for this one, they only said the numbers came back in the low risk range.

I know it's hard, but try not to worry too much.  A lot of times the numbers mean nothing.  Did you have an NT scan (first trimester u/s) done?  Did you have any soft markers for Downs, like a short nasal bone or a thick NT measurement?  Those aren't a guaranteed sign, either, but if you had the scan, they could have shown up.

  • @ColoradoHiker Wait. You mean you don't live in Colorado!?
We were 17 when I got pregnant with our DD. Definitely a big age gap between her and this LO! She will be 12 by the time this one is born. Basically, my H always wanted to have more kids but I was sure I only wanted one. I hated being a SAHM so, I went to college and got my bachelor's degree and a decent job. Once I was happy with where I was in life I started to reconsider having another kid. We would be eating dinner and it felt like someone was missing. That's how I realized I wanted to try for another baby. He was always really patient with me and let me know he was ready for another when, or if, I ever was.

  • @dogdisnylovr yea, I felt like a total weirdo thinking 'there's no way SNOT is a pregnancy symptom...but why don't I feel sick and congested?' and then sure enough, one of my apps was like, 'you might notice more snot production...' LOL :D Also, I'm adding to my post as I read down the page and I just got to your second post..I'm so sorry that you have to wait 2 weeks for the results. I hope everything is fine - so often when there's a *high risk for XXX* it turns out to be nothing, so I really do hope that's the case for your LO. I understand the freakout though :(
    @juliebreaux

@becauselove omg, I'm sorry for your awkward pregnancy moment! that's so horrible... In terms of your questions, I wouldn't take a used car seat (though, I will be using taxi carseats and possibly borrowing a carseat from a close VERY trusted friend when we visit home at Christmas, so maybe that makes me a hypocrite?) If I needed a car seat in my daily life though, I would absolutely buy new. I also don't want to buy a used crib, but I know lots of people do, so it doesn't seem AS sketchy to me.
I plan to cloth diaper, so not sure if I'm useful to you if you're asking about disposables? I remember my aunt preferring the President's Choice grocery store brand or the Kirkland Costco brand more than Pampers or Huggies because P and H were 'TOO stretchy'. I think it really comes down to fit on the baby and personal preference. Could you get a few samples from different brands (maybe you have friends whose kids have sized up and they have a few awkward too-small ones left?
I'm in Sweden, so my parental leave is way different than what is available in the States, so I can't help you there either.

  • @jillibean0871 I LOLd at your little ghost moment!

@juliebeannn I've been there with the toilets! That's the worst!

@dogdisnylovr FX for your test results!

How far along are you? 20w+1

When is your next appointment? One week from today is our A/S! We're team green, but excited to see LO!

Cravings/Symptoms? Current craving is chocolate. Symptoms, RLP and some back aches, but lots of movement makes up for it :)

Rants/Raves/Randoms? Rave: Friend had her baby Sunday night where we'll be delivering, so we poked around the hospital room. They had a good experience and their baby boy is super cute! I know it got DH more excited too.

Questions? Where to register... I've started registries at Target & Amazon, but I want to get the most out of the benefits offered, so we're considering BRU.

pregnancy GTKY: what has been the most awkward thing so far? I've been lucky with my symptoms, so I think the awkwardness is just trying to figure out what I can wear every day that looks acceptable, and I know it'll just get trickier.

NBR GTKY: camping or hotel?? Hotel. Must have a bed and AC for sleep.

  • @ChefRamsay Haha, no I only wish I live in CO.  DH and I went there (hiking, amongst other outdoor activities like cave spelunking) for our honeymoon, and I've wanted to go back ever since.  One of my bucket list items is to move there after we retire.

I think your story is actually really sweet.  I'm glad you were able to reach the goals you wanted to achieve, so many people act like it's impossible if you have kids at a young age.  Fwiw, I would be a terrible SAHM.  I was home with DS for 5 months (lost my job when he was born), and I was going crazy by the end of it.  I need mental stimulation, and the newborn/ infant phase was a very long one for me, haha.

  • @ColoradoHiker I'm somewhat embarrassed to say thing but I sometimes don't know what all I have had done and the names for them. I thought I was going in for only a glucose test on Tuesday, and then they run another test. Which is fine, I just didn't know about it. Is an NT scan a different type of ultrasound? I actually had 3 ultrasounds in the first trimester due to a vanishing twin. When my MW called me yesterday she said my ultrasounds didn't have any soft markers. So that is good news.
