Re: Weekly Randoms April 10 - 15

  • Can anyone advise me on seeing a chiropractor during pregnancy?  In general I've never even been to one. I initially booked the appointment because I'm having a whole host of problems with my lower extremities, mainly my hips.  What should I expect during my first and subsequent visits?!

  • @stokesm21 My chiropractor is one of my favorite people.  They usually have a chair with a "spring board" style middle section for the belly, and they can lock it in place when you're on your back.  My chiropractor is very chatty, which I think is mostly a distraction technique.  You do need to relax, and it will likely be one of the most bizarre experiences ever, but it helps so much - especially pregnant.  I don't think I can type out the things he does without making them sound scarier than they are, but the techniques are effective.  I will say that it will probably take a day to feel relief from pain (it's often not immediate), and sometimes several sessions, but it is soooo worth it.

@stokesm21 - It is AMAZING. I didn't with my first pregnancy because I was young and new. This time around I'm old and creaky even pre-pregnancy. I started seeing a prenatal chiro back in December and she has been a lifesaver. She focuses on areas causing discomfort from pregnancy and makes me feel like I'm 25 again.

  • I'm trying not to freak out, but we have nothing done in the baby's nursery yet and it's stressing me out. We ordered the crib and dresser, which is an 8-10 week delivery time. DH decided to do a bathroom reno, so the nursery is currently holding tools, supplies, and piles of renovation debris. We need to replace carpets after having to re-wire parts of the house when knob and tube wiring was discovered in the bathroom demolition. So really, the baby's nursery is more like -25% complete.

With DD, we were painting her room at 21 weeks and it was just furniture and decor after that. And here I am at almost 26 weeks....nothing done.

  • @stokesm21 Mine uses the adjuster tool on whatever points she needs to to get my pelvis un-rotated. I initially went for terrible hip pain and RLP that I thought was the start of SPD.
Just because you get relief doesn't necessarily mean it will last, either. I just went Thursday and had to go back this morning and I was already in a state where the chiro was like "WTF did you do??" The answer was sitting through a 5 hr birth class :-P

  • @hyperangel_8509 I'm with you! Im also waiting for the Easter sales, and then Mother's Day sales, so itl be fine.
  • @GlitterFish @hyperangel_8509 @chiquita928 Thanks ladies!

As for my random today, I can't. I just can't.  I was browsing through FB and someone I know commented on a petition of some dog whose ears were cut off by its "owners" for losing a dog fight.  Just scrolling and seeing the picture had me in tears.  I normally can't see this kind of stuff because it sits with me for months and being pregnant it's like 10x worse. How do I get this stuff to not show up on my feed? I click on the petition (to sign obviously. Not sure if it even helps but ...) then I'm met with pictures of cows being skinned alive, dogs being boiled alive at the Yulin dog festival, dogs bleeding from having fireworks shoved in their mouths ... and I just start to cry even harder like ... WHY ARE PEOPLE SO CRUEL?! :'(:'(  Why couldn't it just let me sign?  Why did it have to show me that shit?  Ugh.

  • @stokesm21 Knowing my "signature" isn't helping jack anyway, I just avoid that kind of stuff entirely. My mom actually runs an anti-animal abuse facebook page with what I think is a big following, and I don't even like the page or even have my mom show up in my feed.

  • @stokesm21 that's so cruel and also disrespectful. You don't have to show their photos I cant even imagine why they would want to take photos.
  • @stokesm21 I feel you on that, my mom runs a pit bull rescue and the stories, pictures, and dogs they couldn't save that she and her friends share make me physically ill. I have had to block people I like because I can't, I really can't. I know they are trying to spread awareness but stuff like that haunts and sticks with me.
  • @stokesm21 I know exactly what you mean. I can't even "like" the rescue we foster for on Facebook because they posts such sad photos and stories I just can't deal. I'm with @Dcwtada I know they need to spread awareness and make people realize this is happening but I feel like I support rescues and donate enough so I personally can't see that stuff on my page, just knowing it's happening is bad enough. It does make me go home and hug my pups a little tighter though  <3
  • After joking with my husband about this earlier in the pregnancy, I found the most appropriate shirt.

Also - how is it less than 12 weeks to go time - so much to do, so little time!

  • I'm definitely having a first world problem today. I left my wireless mouse in a office yesterday and today I'm back at home and have to use a corded mouse and the cord is in my way. My wireless mouse is an hour away so I probably won't get it until next week. Horrible, right? ;)
  • Not baby related but: Anyone have any advice on how to get rid of ants in a cat friendly way? It can be as abrasive and harsh of a chemical or poison as possible, but it has to not be harmful to cats. She sticks her nose in everything, and she loves the windowsill they are on. I just saw them for the first time about 20 minutes ago (they weren't even visible this morning) so I want to stop this as soon as possible.

What type of ants? If they're little ants, in my experience they only show up if there's something (food) that they're interested in. So I would just give everything a good scrub with your normal cleaning products and see if that helps. If they're the big black ants, spray around the outside of the window (and the whole house really) with bug repellent.
  • @AdaByron They're the little tiny sugar ants. Super common in my area really. This is gonna sound weird, but I actually keep my snacks on the windowsill. I don't have a ton of storage in my kitchen, and the windowsill is huge, so it's worked out. I've moved all the food, sprayed the whole thing down, and got rid of all the little dead ant bodies. Maybe this will work to keep them away. Maybe I can't keep the food their during the summer months.

  • @kerils my sil has this problem EVERY year, it seems to get worse every year too. She usually does good deep clean and then sprays peppermint oil around doors and windows inside and out.

Maybe keep the snacks in gladware containers or ziplock bags and stuff?
  • @kerils ditto on locking the snacks up. I would wash the window and surrounding area with warm soapy water and then put on a cleaning product. Sometimes the cleaning products alone don't get rid of the sugar residue.

  • @kerils we used to get ants (not the little guys, but still) every summer. My mom had a bunch of tins (like you'd get those old dutch butter cookies in) and would put any open snack bag into those.
  • Super annoyed that I can't post my HDBD pic after the new update. I finally had a chance to take one this week!
  • Finally got my interview invitation for grad school. Thanks to all who gave me outfit feedy early on. I have been collecting bits and pieces  from thrift stores since then and now have two good outfits to choose from.
