1) How far along are you? 2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? 3) Cravings/symptoms? 4) Rants/raves/concerns? 5) Anything else you want to add/ask? 6) GTKY: Are you going to go on a babymoon? Where?
1) How far along are you? 9 weeks 2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? Last week I had my first prenatal appointment and then my first ultrasound. I received a clean bill of health and the protomolecule looks good. 3) Cravings/symptoms? Been craving French fries. But mostly still feeling fatigued af, nausea, gas, bloating, breast pain. 4) Rants/raves/concerns? I'm really excited because today the protomolecule has graduated from embryo to fetus! 5) Anything else you want to add/ask? Any other ladies struggling a bit with body image issues? Normally I'm a pretty level headed person but I am so tired of "brutally honest" articles talking about how ruined your post baby body will be but you won't care but here's how to loose the baby weight!
Just STFU about our bodies for two seconds, am I right? 6) GTKY: Are you going to go on a babymoon? Where? We haven't talked about this. I think it's pretty silly. Our anniversary is in the summer anyway so if we do anything, it'll be then, and we won't be traveling very far bc we're broke.
Me: 32 Husbando: 49 Married Since: 7/29/2012 omgosh
1) How far along are you? 6 weeks today 2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? Yesterday had first prenatal and first US which only showed gestational sac and not fetal pole yet which logical me KNOWS is perfectly normal but FTM me thinks is bad news. Did get some Diclegis for the MS which I'm so pumped about. 3) Cravings/symptoms? i just need carbs. Pasta with venegar and Parmesan or goldfish crackers is literally all I can deal with. Still so tired, still feel that pulling cramp sensation in uterus, still constipated and gassy. Also nausea and food aversion like no other. 4) Rants/raves/concerns? Is it just me or is it weird that during my first round of blood work last week my doc didn't order an HCG/progesterone level check?? I had to get that yesterday because she couldn't see fetal pole at 5w6d but I'm super confused why that wasn't checked earlier. 5) Anything else you want to add/ask? Body image is DEFINITELY a thing right now for me. I literally JUST celebrated 5 years in recovery from eating disorders on March 18th and now I'm about to go through these massive body changes...I'm very nervous how this is going to feel. 6) GTKY: Are you going to go on a babymoon? Where? Before we knew I had a baby hiding in my uterus we had just booked a cruise for mid May. It's supposed to be a delayed anniversary trip because we couldn't go in January over our actual anniversary this year as we were building a house. Now, though, it seems Baby-moon ish, although I'd kind of like to go to a new city in the US for a long weekend too.
@Tourmalily glad everything looks good and congrats on your new fetus! RE: body image, I'm struggling a little because I've always been petite and I'm being vain about gaining weight, but it's not stopping me from eating when I'm hungry. @kaitieb14 easier said than done but if your doctor isn't worried try not to worry yourself! A cruise sounds great, where are you sailing through? 1) How far along are you? 7w3d 2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? Ultrasound last week to check up on my pain, everything looked good! 3) Cravings/symptoms? Desperately want a Subway tuna melt. Symptoms-wise, just sore breasts today. No diarrhea this morning, thank the good Lord. 4) Rants/raves/concerns? Rave: I bought the Pearhead Pregnancy Journal off Amazon and I used it yesterday. I really like it! I was worried because it didn't seem super in depth while I saw others that were 300 pages of writing. But, I don't love to write so the amount of writing in it is perfect for me. It's one page per month with prompts, room for pictures and pockets for papers. There's also extra space to write more if you want to. I love it! Hoping to give it to this baby when s/he is having their own child. Rant: Today's weather. Just pouring rain and 40 degrees. My tights and boots boycott lasted one whole day. 5) Anything else you want to add/ask? What are peoples opinions on doulas? I think it sounds nice to have someone with you the whole time who knows what's going on since doctors/nurses pop in and out but I'm also feeling weird about it because that's a lot of extra money to spend and also a doula is still mostly a stranger. I think I just want DH there. 6) GTKY: Are you going to go on a babymoon? Where? We're doing a combo anniversary/babymoon trip, two weeks in Scandinavia this summer. I'm really excited about it!
1) How far along are you? 10w1d 2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? Not this week 3) Cravings/symptoms? So severely nauseous and occassional vomiting. And food does NOT sound good right now. Poor DH is bending over backwards finding things that sound okay enough to me that I'll eat it. 4) Rants/raves/concerns? Rant - getting tired of being pushed by a couple of family members to share the news on social media. The news is real and exciting whether it's "Facebook official" or not (rolls eyes). Besides, still early yet. Rave - DH has been amazing/supportive as I've been the most sick last week and this week. 5) Anything else you want to add/ask? Not right now 6) GTKY: Are you going to go on a babymoon? Where? We aren't necessarily calling it a babymoon, but we have a few weekend trips we want to take between now and the baby being born. Just to enjoy some one on one time together before the "next chapter" begins
DH: 31, Me: 27 Married May 2014 TTC #1: May 2015 September 2016-December 2016: Met with RE, fertility testing, diagnosis of tubal scarring, and plan of IVF *TW in spoiler boxes*
Surprise! Unexpected BFP 2/22/17 just when we were about to start fertility treatment!
@DuchessOfCambridge we go through Carnival every year! Usually we try to find one with destinations we've never been to before it for budgeting after building the house and furnishing parts of it we decided to go on a simple Bahamas one this year since they're the cheapest. It's going to be fun still but I do kind of miss the adventure element of going somewhere totally new!
@Tourmalily@DuchessOfCambridge yes to the body image issue. I have always always been petite and very sensitive to body image issues (thanks society and my Dad). It's going to be a real strigglw for me.
@kaitieb14 this week is a major carb week for me too (eating a bagel as I type). After reading your post I wanted to add that I think as women all struggling with bodyimage issues it's so important we are open and honest and support each other as all of our bodies change.
@DuchessOfCambridge I would kill for a tuna melt right now! Personally I love the idea of a doula, but probably won't get one due to cost.
@kyersten I feel so badly your family pushing you to share the news. It's your news to share when and how you want!
1) How far along are you? 8 weeks 3 days 2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? appt today!!!!! Soooo excited and sooooooooooooo anxious. 3) Cravings/symptoms? carbs lately. My symptoms come and go. Had a really bad headache last night and my sinuses have been bad. Not sure if a symptom or not. Also pretty sure I have some RLP. 4) Rants/raves/concerns? DH was so great last night, I was miserable and all he wanted to do was make me feel better and I was kind of a jerk I think. 5) Anything else you want to add/ask? I am finding it so hard to concentrate at work lately. I am usually on my game but lately it's rough. I am so worried someone is going to notice. I also plan to talk to my boss next week about a promotion, which I had planned to do this month before finding out I was pregnant. I am very nervous about this convo when I know in a month I will be turning around and telling her the news and asking to change my schedule. Being a woman in the workplace is rough. 6) GTKY: Are you going to go on a babymoon? Where? we have definitely talked about it, but neither of us can figure out when because our schedules are jammed packed through the Fall.
1) How far along are you? 10 weeks tomorrow 2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? Surprise appts on Friday and Monday. I started bleeding Thursday night but stopped by Friday afternoon. The US tech at our office is only in on M/W so I had to wait until yesterday to see my LO but baby is fine and has a nice strong HB of 168 3) Cravings/symptoms? Yes... All the cravings. Except my craving works like this: crave something, have it be the only thing on your mind, get that thing, eat half of it, feel sick AF and throw it out. 4) Rants/raves/concerns? Just the unexplained bleeding. DH and I were laughing because the doc advised against intercourse until week 14 (which is fine since we haven't been interested anyway!!!) 5) Anything else you want to add/ask? STM - when did you get your energy back? I'm constantly exhausted. 6) GTKY: Are you going to go on a babymoon? Where? Nope. I would like to but DH wants to save up every penny we can since this was so unexpected.
@kyersten that's annoying you're being pushed to announce. They know already, what do they care about FB knowing? Weekend trips sound so fun! Where are you going?
@jess0211 yay good luck today! Ditto about work, I've been so distracted, all I think about is the baby. Just remember that you deserve a promotion baby or not. It's not fair for you to be held back just because you want to start a family and biologically it falls on you. It's a couple months of leave vs the whole rest of the years you'll be working for your company, they should realize that. I hope you get the promotion!
I feel you all on the body image stuff! I am usually super good about what I eat but let it go last week and between that and being constipated I swear I already have a bump that should not be there yet! I'm really looking forward to having a baby bump but it makes me anxious at the same time! 1) How far along are you? 8 Weeks tomorrow 2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? Thursday is the first - we're both sooo anxious about it. Just praying everything looks great so we can tell our family at Easter! 3) Cravings/symptoms? Last week I felt so crappy all day everyday but I switched to taking my prenatal at night and seriously I feel 100% better! I think someone on here suggested that so THANK YOU! Other than that peeing all the time, sore sore boobs and constipated, but I'll take those over being nauseous all day everyday. 4) Rants/raves/concerns? Rants: I'm so freaking busy with school and work, I hadn't had a day off for 10 days which didn't allow me to bump much lately! Just pushing through the next month till graduation. 5) Anything else you want to add/ask? Not today 6) GTKY: Are you going to go on a babymoon? Where? I'd like to but with graduation, taking my boards, and moving cross country in July it most likely wont happen.
@safinn21- I ended up taking mine at night the last few days since nausea has kicked in- and it seems to help a little also. There is something about trying to swallow that pill in the morning that makes me cringe!
@kyersten I'm sorry that they are pushing you. I could totally see my IL's doing that as time goes on as well- she loves any attention on social media!
1) How far along are you? 6 weeks 2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? Still two and a half more weeks of waiting! 3) Cravings/symptoms? Nausea just started a few days ago, as well as the ongoing battle between being super hungry but everything sounding terrible! Still have very sore boobs, exhausted, but struggling to stay asleep at night. 4) Rants/raves/concerns? Just excited for the time to come that I am no longer keeping this big secret from coworkers/friends/others!! Trying to be patient in the mean time 5) Anything else you want to add/ask? Any recommendations on comfortable supportive bras? I'm sorry if this was asked recently! I have been wearing sports bras more and more lately but that's sometimes hard to do with work clothes! 6) GTKY: Are you going to go on a babymoon? Where? We are going to go somewhere this summer- just not sure where yet..
1) How far along are you? 8w5d 2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? First OB appointment was last Thursday. Everything looked great on the u/s! I have an office visit next Thursday to go over my labs and to draw blood for NIPT. 3) Cravings/symptoms? I'm pretty boring as far as symptoms go. Just super bloated, thirsty and tired. 4) Rants/raves/concerns? We found out that our good friends are also expecting and due in October. I'm excited to have a pregnancy buddy IRL 5) Anything else you want to add/ask? Nope! 6) GTKY: Are you going to go on a babymoon? Where? The term "babymoon" makes me gag a little. I have no clue why I have such an aversion to the term - the idea is nice enough! We've talked about possibly going somewhere in Maine for a long weekend in July. My birthday is also in July so it would double as a pre-baby/birthday trip.
@Tourmalily mmmm now I need french fries. I'm also struggling with body image. I'm hoping that when I finally exchange the bloat for a bump that things will be a little easier. Right now I just feel like a hot air balloon. @kyersten Ugh. I totally feel you on the pressure to be social media "official." That is the main reason why I'm not telling my mom until Mother's Day... When my brother announced that his wife was expecting, my mom's first question was "can I post this on facebook?!" So obnoxious and AWish. @jess0211 Yay! I hope everything goes well at your appointment today! @sarebear55 Glad everything is ok!
Me: 32 H: 32 Married: October 2009 TTC#1: August 2016
@jess0211 I hope your appointment goes well today! @sarebear55 Sorry to hear you had unexplained bleeding! That's so scary; I'm glad that everything is okay and the heartbeat is strong.
1. 6w4d 2. Had my first ultrasound yesterday, all good! We were able to see the heartbeat which was just awesome. 3. So much nausea, sore boobs, and I'm exhausted. I had terrible stomach pain yesterday which may have been round ligament or just gas. :-P No specific cravings, but my husband discovered yesterday that ice cream helps with my nausea. This could be dangerous. 4. My rant is just that I've been stuck on a train all morning for a business trip and it is not helping the nausea. Ugh. And I get to do it again this evening. 5. No questions at the moment! 6. We travel a lot and will likely do one more trip this summer, probably to somewhere in eastern Canada or maybe Colorado. I don't think we'll call it a babymoon, though.
1) How far along are you? 9w3d 2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? Nope. Just chilling and waiting. 3) Cravings/symptoms? Finally got some shrimp cocktail I'd been craving for about 3 days. Tired here and there. Constant bathroom runs. Occasionally sore bbs. Food's still pretty funky to balance between the underlying nausea and constant hunger. 4) Rants/raves/concerns? Body image is a thing. I hadn't planned on gaining til 15-18 weeks (per friends and doctor) and haven't actually gained any weight yet. But my boss keeps mentioning that every time she turns around she sees me with food (I'm grazing- not eating meals...) and the fact that I can't suck the bloat in effectively anymore makes me a little mopey cause I know it's not a baby bump yet. 5) Anything else you want to add/ask? Seconding the doula thought/question from @DutchessOfCambridge. I'd love to go 100% natural for birth and I would LOVE having a doula to help. But MS is so slow on its birth friendliness and while doulas are available they are expensive and I just don't know.... 6) GTKY: Are you going to go on a babymoon? Where? Haven't talked about it yet but probably not? I'm kinda a home body and traveling with a 5yo while massively pregnant isn't super appealing. Maybe we'll run to the beach for a weekend and just lounge at a condo super low key. I know we could leave DD but honestly, seeing her have fun is half my fun.

1) How far along are you? 8+4 2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? First appointment on Thursday, but just for history and blood-work I believe. Going to call them to see if an u/s is planned because I called them right after my BFP and didn't know to ask or what is standard! 3) Cravings/symptoms? I make bread from my sourdough starter and it's SO good, and lately I've been making toasted PB&Js with it. It's pretty much the only thing I want! Symptoms still come and go but are generally mild (which I'm thankful for but it concerns me). Heavy, sore bbs still. 4) Rants/raves/concerns? Rant: I developed some weird knee pain a few days ago, enough for me to call the doctor. On the phone, the nurse noticed I had an OB appt Thursday, and after that pretty much chalked up my knee pain to my being pregnant! Including saying, "Well, you are growing a human...". I do realize that a lot of odd things can come up while pregnant, but I think it's a stretch to relate my meniscus to the LO. Perhaps if I had already gained weight or the baby were sitting on a nerve, but not at this stage! 5) Anything else you want to add/ask? Has anyone torn their meniscus from being 8w pregnant? Just joking I've been looking up paraben-free beauty products, it might be good to start a general tread about products (including things like sunscreen, etc.) for people to add reviews and ideas if they have tips. I'm not totally paraben-free but I've been spending more time researching and buying different products. Curious about other people's thoughts and if I should be more vigilant - we haven't discussed this much. 6) GTKY: Are you going to go on a babymoon? Where? Nothing planned yet! Should consider a trip outside the US in case we Americans start getting banned from travelling freely to other countries..
1) How far along are you? 9 weeks, 5 days 2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? nope, next appointment isn't until April 20th 3) Cravings/symptoms? tired, nauseous/hungry, gaseous, etc etc. BUT I'm feeling pretty good today so yay! Symptoms seem to be really bad for a few days then let up for a day or 2 4) Rants/raves/concerns? Rant- my bf is sick right now and kept me up half the night snoring >.< Rave- even though he's sick, he made me pancakes last night since that's the only thing that sounded good 5) Anything else you want to add/ask? not at the moment 6) GTKY: Are you going to go on a babymoon? Where? I'm not sure, we have bright it up a couple times but haven't talked very seriously about it
1) How far along are you? Based on LMP 7+4 but doctor measured baby and so 8w today. Not sure which one I should go with for now, any ideas? 2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? Yesterday. It went well, thankfully! 3) Cravings/symptoms? Slight nausea, still spotting, crave very specific foods, but can't always get them, constantly hungry and sleepy. I don't want to tell anyone at work yet, but my productivity is definitely suffering and I wish I could tell them that I am not just being lazy. My mind is just focused on not falling asleep at the desk or throwing up. 4) Rants/raves/concerns? I guess, I am also worried about how much weight I will gain, but I am not as bombarded with some of the media that I think is more prevalent back home in the States. My rant is, I started rock climbing 8-10 months ago. I fell in love with it. It makes me feel strong and powerful, it gives me peace of mind. A longer route is comparable to what I imagine a yoga session to be (I hate yoga), where you are just hyper focused and zen. Anyway, point is, it gives me so much joy. I know it is all for baby's best interest, and I'm okay with quitting for now, but I was making so much progress and now it is on full stop. It's just one of the first sacrifices for this new little life and I guess I am emotionally dealing with it right now and coming to terms with it. I keep watching climbing videos and nearly crying (thanks hormones). Anyone else feeling like they are already having to give up a small part of themselves? 5) Anything else you want to add/ask? Not for now. 6) GTKY: Are you going to go on a babymoon? Where? I think the plan is to just do a bit more weekend car trips, maybe start doing some camping to some nearby lakes and mountains. Try to enjoy the area around us a bit more. If we can manage, maybe we will go on a long weekend trip to another city as well, but nothing too fancy.
@DuchessOfCambridge - STM lurking. I had a doula my past two deliveries and have already hired her again. If you want, I can describe what my experience was like or answer any specific questions you have about it overall.
@kschref yes please! I feel about doulas like I do therapists: they may be really helpful but it's a stranger and do i really want to get that intimate with someone I don't know? Also the $$
*There is nothing wrong with therapists I just don't think it would work for me to tell a stranger my feelings...says the girl talking to a bunch of internet strangers*
@car1a Maybe it is just coincidence, but I also had a weird knee pain suddenly a few days ago which also carried up to my hip. It went away after about an hour and moved to my other knee (but not hip). Then it dissapeared all together after a couple of hours. It was enough that I limped a bit. I did just kind of assume it was pregnancy related for some reason, in my case, just because I haven't been active enough to injure anything the last few weeks. But if you have had knee problems before, just push a bit more to get checked. You know your body better than anyone else! Good luck!
Okay, doulas. I am honestly not sure I would have hired one if I had not planned on unmedicated births. I feel like that's where she was especially helpful. My husband was not sure he would know how to comfort me through the birthing process as he had never seen it himself. We decided to hire one for that reason and because I have a general anxiety disorder - we thought it would be helpful to have somebody knowledgeable in the room whose sole purpose was to support me and not baby. It was 100% worth it.
The interviewing process took a little bit. I talked to one lady who told me we would be a great fit because she was psychic. TETO but not for me. I eventually asked my OB if they had doulas with whom they had worked in the past. She gave me a list and I hired from there. We clicked immediately. I think it worked out nicely to have somebody in the room who had worked with the people from my practice before. Nobody stepped on anybody else's toes and they had obviously done many births together and were happy to see each other. Somewhere I have a great list of questions to ask in interviews if you ever want it.
Before birth: She was available to me by call/email/text every day during my pregnancy. She gave me a ton of materials about the different stages of labor and how my husband could be helpful in different ways during each one. At different stages of pregnancy she worked with me on different yoga/stretching poses to relieve pain and pressure and she answered a ton of questions very patiently. She did 2 home visits and offered to look over any gear, etc. if we had questions. During my next pregnancy, I had a bit of anxiety over delivering med-free again. We were able to develop some tools for relieving that anxiety for before and during delivery and it was nice to have that support ahead of time.
During labor: She came to my house and stayed with us while I sat in the tub during early labor. She timed contractions and gave me different suggestions for ways to move and stretch and helped us determine when to go to the hospital. She met us there and never left my side. She would hold the bag for me to vomit, she pinned my hair out of my face while I was pushing, she talked me through each contraction and gave suggestions on breathing and vocalizations as my needs changed. My husband ended up holding a leg on the other side and was very happy to assist our doula but he was also to be able to help with the delivery itself both times. With my daughter, I labored in the shower on a yoga ball at the hospital. My husband sat in front of me so I could lean on him and she stood behind me and ran the shower head against the small of my back. She knew a lot of different positions for laboring and pushing and knew me better than the nurses in terms of what my preferences were, so it made for smooth transitions. They did have to take my son out of the room to get him set up with equipment for jaundice. She stayed with me while my DH went with baby. She also stayed long enough to make sure I got a good latch going for nursing both times and showed us several nursing positions that worked well for newborns who have busty mothers. I was legit worried at first that I might suffocate my son with my boobs.
Back at Home: She did 1 post-natal visit to make sure everything was going well, talked about what to look for in terms of PPD, and she wrote up a complete birth story including how long I labored, how many times I pushed, etc. It was nice that neither my husband or I had to keep track of any of that.
That's basically it in a (long) nutshell! I'm not sure the pricing everywhere. We have a lot of doulas where I live and they were fairly similar. Her rate was something like $750 total and we were so happy with the experience that we tipped to bring it up to $1000 and that's what we've paid both times. I think for my particular situation, it was worth it. We still keep in touch and it was a great experience both times.
@Kschref Thank you! That was so helpful. I have never even thought about a doula before.
@kyersten "Facebook official" for a pregnancy? Come on now!
@Jess0211 Go for that promotion! You deserved it before so you deserve it now.
@safinn21 Your July sounds like ours -- my husband graduates and gets a new job, and we'll likely be moving many states away (TBD). Good luck!
@JulesDP How exciting to have an IRL pregnancy buddy!
@YesOuiCan Congrats on seeing the heartbeat! So exciting!
I keep meaning to join in on this thread in earnest, but I am so sick I feel like I can't support you ladies properly! Sorry for anyone I missed
1) How far along are you? 9 weeks 2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? I was supposed to have graduated from the RE's, but they were concerned about HG so I had to go back in today to get weighed. I have lost 6 pounds, and 8 pounds would be 5% of my weight and therefore a concern. Ugh. He is having me up my diclegis dose to the max to see if that helps. 3) Cravings/symptoms? Besides the possible HG? Everything else pales in comparison... Cross your fingers it goes away soon! 4) Rants/raves/concerns? 5) Anything else you want to add/ask? 6) GTKY: Are you going to go on a babymoon? Where? We would really like to, but we have to wait until my husband's post-grad school job situation gets figured out.
@Tourmalily YES to being sick of "brutally honest" post-baby body articles!! I get that they are supposed to be empowering/relatable, but I don't really want to have expectations, good or bad, for my post-baby body.
@kyersten aw I'm sorry you're so sick! This isn't my worst week but I definitely feel your pain. Glad you have a good hubby to feed you!
@jess0211 How did your appointment go! That is so exciting, I'm jealous!!!
@safinn21 What are you studying? Are you moving due to job/school? We are moving too once my boyfriend graduates for his residency program. He just got done taking his dental boards. Also--I'm with you on the no time for bumping! The past few weeks have been weirdly busy for me and I feel like I need to actually set aside time to post here because I don't want it to fall to the wayside.
@Carito8 It's rough to give something up that you love so much, but at least it's only temporary! That's an awesome hobby btw. I don't feel like I'm sacrificing parts of myself or anything (yet), but the first tri symptoms definitely have drastically changed my social life and that has sort of been making me feel weird.
@DuchessOfCambridge@kschref Wow! I hadn't seriously considered a doula but from reading your experience I definitely will now, especially if going the route of unmedicated birth. I wonder how typical her service was, because to me it sounds pretty top notch. For example, will all doulas be willing to be in daily contact with you? Thank you for sharing that! Something to think about.
1) How far along are you? 9 weeks 4 days 2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? Not until April 26! 22 days! 3) Cravings/symptoms? the uncomfortable middle ground between starving and nauseous. sore boobs. so much phlegm. weird vagina pains. (I've read this is caused by more blood flow to that area...anyone else feeling this?) 4) Rants/raves/concerns? BF and I have lots of obligatory traveling coming up (not necessarily the fun kind) and I'm just not really looking forward to being in the car and away from the comforts of my own home. I don't feel quiiiiite ready because I'm still having very consistent symptoms..almost, but not quite. 5) Anything else you want to add/ask? Where/when do you guys Bump the most? At work, all day on and off? I'm notoriously bad at social media/social apps so I need some advice on how to stay involved! 6) GTKY: Are you going to go on a babymoon? Where? I'm sure we will do something for the two of us, maybe a long weekend or something during the second tri, but nothing extravagant. Money is tight here for now!!
@ebelknap Looks like we are due date buddies at 9+4!
My advice for staying involved is to pick a few threads to prioritize over trying to read and respond to everything. That's been the most productive for me since I get to know people in those threads and what they're up to. I like the daily ticker changes for that reason. On days I have more free time I might open and participate in more of the daily chat threads, while on days I'm super busy, I just can't so I don't try.
@ebelknap thanks! I just posted an update in the weekly appts thread, but it went well!!!! I echo @adirat advice. I tend to bump throughout the day as I need mental breaks from work.
@adirat I feel so badly that you're so sick! I really hope you're feeling better soon!
1) How far along are you? 6w5d 2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? First prenatal appt today, went well. Longer update in PGAL thread. 3) Cravings/symptoms? Finally starting to get my appetite back after not having one for about 1.5 weeks. I still don't want to eat most things, but can tolerate eating. 4) Rants/raves/concerns? Nothing major at this time. 5) Anything else you want to add/ask? Nope. 6) GTKY: Are you going to go on a babymoon? Where? We just got back from Europe (Amsterdam and Brussels) and that may be our last major trip for a while. We do have about $1,500 in travel rewards we need to spend, but not sure how/when we will do it. Contemplating Hawaii in September during our week off, but haven't made official plans. kschref Thanks for the thorough response on doulas. I have contemplated having one, but not decided. I have 3 friends who are doulas and they are amazing, but none live near me and honestly, I wouldn't want to mix friendship/business/pregnancy.
ebelknap Hopefully your symptoms subside a bit and travel isn't too bad. Having traveled (10 hours both ways by plane) recently at only 6 weeks...I know it was miserable with nausea and vomiting. So I feel your pain and hope it isn't bad for you!
Carito8 Bummer on the rock climbing having to stop. Hopefully you can pick it back up again after baby is born. Also, I know I missed this, but what country are you living in now? Are you ex-pat?
mparm91 Snoring is the worst! My DH is a snorer and it drives me nuts. Glad he made it up to you a little bit by cooking pancakes!
sarebear55 Eek, the bleeding sounds scary, but glad you were able to get in and see your LO still progressing along!
jess0211 Good luck asking for the promotion! As a ED of an organization, I have many employees asking for promotions. What I respect most is when employees bring a clear demonstration of their work performance, demonstrated success and how they contribute positively to the organization. Being confident, clear and purposeful with your ask for a promotion goes a long way. In contrast, I truly dislike when employees ask for raises and simply say, "because I deserve it (with no evidence to back it up)" or "because my family needs more money." Now, I am not doubting that family situations can be demanding, but everyone has their own personal finance situations. I firmly believe salary decisions and promotions should be based on merit and contributions, not personal needs.
JulesDP Haha to the babymoon aversion. The word is pretty odd.
kaitieb14 For such an early U/S that seems normal, but I totally understand the anxiety. FX your next ones all go well!
kyersten Ugh...the whole facebook official thing drives me nuts. We are very private people and do not share much on facebook (maybe 2 posts a year) and so I understand what you mean about not needing to do it. Sadly, in our society, social media has become the expected norm for communicating all of life's major events for a lot of people.
@DuchessOfCambridge Hmm, interesting sounding journal. I used to be obsessed with journaling, now I am just too lazy. But your journal set up sounds like a good middle ground of writing and keeping memories along the way!
Tourmalily yay for graduating from embryo to fetus!!
autumn230 I feel ya on being patient and waiting to tell others! Especially family because we haven't told anyoneat this point. Only DH, my OB, the Bump ladies and a random airline stewardess know I am pregnant.
@Carito8 yes, and I have incredibly mixed feelings about it. My husband and I absolutely wanted to have a baby, but I am feeling all the changes. I told my direct supervisor at work that I am pregnant because I had to leave work mid-morning for my ultrasound, and I'm noticing since then little changes are happening - he told me to be careful while using a step stool, for instance, and then today I was taking out the trash can to dump it in the dumpster and he followed me out without me realizing it and he took it from me (nicely!) and dumped the trash for me. Don't get me wrong, these are nice gestures, and I appreciate him looking out for me, but I'm a really independent person and I have always prided myself on being strong and capable. Right now, I don't have the energy to run a mile and I can't even do squats without exhausting setting in. I'm very worried about losing more and more of my independence as time goes on and people trying to be helpful just making me feel helpless/like an invalid.
I mean I am the person who won't even give up cleaning the cat box (I am taking some precautions) because it was MY job.

1) How far along are you? 8 weeks 4 days ( according to my u/s ) 2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? We had our first prenatal appointment yesterday, and it went great! The heartbeat was 171, and we were able to see little flickers!! The neatest thing I've ever experienced. I go back in 2 weeks for blood work, and they will also do a blood test to determine gender at that time? That was something I was unaware of them doing... I wonder how accurate it will be at that time. 3) Cravings/symptoms? I have been having junk food cravings, and chocolate cake cravings... The only symptoms I'm experiencing are still fatigue, and now peeing a lot more than normal. 4) Rants/raves/concerns? None at the moment... Just super ecstatic that we go to see the and hear the heartbeat on Monday! 5) Anything else you want to add/ask? Nothing that I can think of right now... 6) GTKY: Are you going to go on a babymoon? Where? We don't have anything planned right now, but we would love to go on a relaxing trip prior to baby coming, but I'm not sure if that will happen or not.
Me: 33 DH: 36 Together since 2007 Happily Ever After 4.30.2015 ~~One Beautiful Daughter~~ Born: 11.6.2017 Trying for #2!!
1) How far along are you? 8+5 2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? Last week I had my first and it was great. I have another next week as my OB does appointments every 2 weeks with an U/S each time. 3) Cravings/symptoms? My boobs are sore and my gag reflex is bad. Like I can cough and dry heave. Haven't had any morning sickness though but I did throw up once from brushing my teeth (gag reflex). My acid reflux is gone which is nice. 4) Rants/raves/concerns? We're moving next month from Korea to NY and we don't have any travel plans or anything set yet (Thanks Army!). DH should be going today but he's so busy and no one in his office cares about him having things set up. We have 2 dogs and some airlines have summer heat restrictions starting May 15th so I'm worried that they will set us up on a flight with a heat restriction. We may just have to pay for the ticket ourselves. I looked and United has great rates, under $600 from Seoul to Boston (where we're going to visit family first) not counting pet fees. My one way ticket to Korea was $1300 because I came before the Army approved me.
5) Anything else you want to add/ask? nope 6) GTKY: Are you going to go on a babymoon? Where? Probably not. This move is going to be expensive and I'm losing my job because of it and the likelihood of me finding a job while 20 weeks pregnant is slim.
@dragonfly87 glad your appt went well! Thanks for the input!!! Very much appreciated! I am definitely walking in there with a portfolio of my contributions. In my organization it's very important to show you are working above your job title. So I have evidence to support that as well. Honestly I kind of got screwed when I took this job because I work for the state and when you transfer departments they can't give you more money even if the job is more responsibility, you have to go back and fight for it later. But if you come in as an external they can pay you as much as they want. It makes no sense to me but after 10+ yrs there I've seen it over and over. It also causes a lot of good people to leave. I won't go in with that attitude of course! That was longer than intended. Sorry!!!
@thj101 glad to hear your appt went well!!! Are they doing gender as part of a whole genetic screening panel?
@slaven that's awesome they see you every 2 weeks! Also, remind me, what type of work do you do?
@jess0211: Wow, that's really messed up that they essentially disincentive employees to stay by doing that. But it sounds like you have a solid plan to make your case for a well deserved promotion. Good luck and go get 'em!
@jess0211 that's always so annoying to me. The way you make the most money is by leaving your company and going somewhere else. Loyalty is worth so much less nowadays. I don't work for the state but that's been my experience as well, tiny raise within the company, significant raise if I go elsewhere.
Definitely agree about the Body Image issues. @kschref Thanks for the Doula info. I never considered it before, but now you have me thinking. @adirat I'm sorry you're so sick. Hopefully the HG will be gone for good soon.
1) How far along are you? 8w2d 2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? First appt April 19th 3) Cravings/symptoms? Craving anything with marinara. Meatball sub, stuffed shells, baked raviolis, yumm. Have Sore boobs, still Exhausted, bloated, hunger/nausea combo, super smell. Nothing too bad except being So Tired, the unfailed 4:30am wake up is not making it easier, why??? 4) Rants/raves/concerns? Only raves today. DH just got a new job. Which is a Huge relief b/c his previous company was bought out and we found out he was laid off right after we found out we were pregnant. So that's an anxiety reliever. Four of my friends at work seperately confided in me that they are pregnant, we're all due within 3weeks of each other (must have been a great Valentine's for everyone) It will be quite a site this fall with 4 very pregnant nurses at work. 5) Anything else you want to add/ask? I'm just really loving this group. Everyone is so supportive and reassuring. And it definitely makes me feel like I'm not alone and not a crazy person. Thanks ladies! 6) GTKY: Are you going to go on a babymoon? Where? Our Anniversary is the end of September, so we'll prob do a weekend trip somewhere, nothing crazy.

2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?

2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?
@kaitieb14 easier said than done but if your doctor isn't worried try not to worry yourself! A cruise sounds great, where are you sailing through?
1) How far along are you?
7w3d
2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?
2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? Not this week
3) Cravings/symptoms? So severely nauseous and occassional vomiting. And food does NOT sound good right now. Poor DH is bending over backwards finding things that sound okay enough to me that I'll eat it.
4) Rants/raves/concerns? Rant - getting tired of being pushed by a couple of family members to share the news on social media. The news is real and exciting whether it's "Facebook official" or not (rolls eyes). Besides, still early yet. Rave - DH has been amazing/supportive as I've been the most sick last week and this week.
5) Anything else you want to add/ask? Not right now
6) GTKY: Are you going to go on a babymoon? Where? We aren't necessarily calling it a babymoon, but we have a few weekend trips we want to take between now and the baby being born. Just to enjoy some one on one time together before the "next chapter" begins

@Tourmalily so glad all went well at your appt!!!
2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? appt today!!!!!
10 weeks tomorrow
2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?
Surprise appts on Friday and Monday. I started bleeding Thursday night but stopped by Friday afternoon. The US tech at our office is only in on M/W so I had to wait until yesterday to see my LO but baby is fine and has a nice strong HB of 168
3) Cravings/symptoms?
Yes... All the cravings. Except my craving works like this: crave something, have it be the only thing on your mind, get that thing, eat half of it, feel sick AF and throw it out.
4) Rants/raves/concerns?
Just the unexplained bleeding. DH and I were laughing because the doc advised against intercourse until week 14 (which is fine since we haven't been interested anyway!!!)
5) Anything else you want to add/ask?
STM - when did you get your energy back? I'm constantly exhausted.
6) GTKY: Are you going to go on a babymoon? Where?
Nope. I would like to but DH wants to save up every penny we can since this was so unexpected.
ETA: @sarebear55 glad everything is ok!
1) How far along are you? 8 Weeks tomorrow
2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?
Not today
6) GTKY: Are you going to go on a babymoon? Where? I'd like to but with graduation, taking my boards, and moving cross country in July it most likely wont happen.
@kyersten I'm sorry that they are pushing you. I could totally see my IL's doing that as time goes on as well- she loves any attention on social media!
@sarebear55 glad everything is ok!!
1) How far along are you? 6 weeks
2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? Still two and a half more weeks of waiting!
3) Cravings/symptoms? Nausea just started a few days ago, as well as the ongoing battle between being super hungry but everything sounding terrible! Still have very sore boobs, exhausted, but struggling to stay asleep at night.
4) Rants/raves/concerns? Just excited for the time to come that I am no longer keeping this big secret from coworkers/friends/others!! Trying to be patient in the mean time
5) Anything else you want to add/ask? Any recommendations on comfortable supportive bras? I'm sorry if this was asked recently! I have been wearing sports bras more and more lately but that's sometimes hard to do with work clothes!
6) GTKY: Are you going to go on a babymoon? Where? We are going to go somewhere this summer- just not sure where yet..
@jess0211 Fx for your appointment!!
Married Since: 7/29/2012

2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? First OB appointment was last Thursday. Everything looked great on the u/s! I have an office visit next Thursday to go over my labs and to draw blood for NIPT.
3) Cravings/symptoms? I'm pretty boring as far as symptoms go. Just super bloated, thirsty and tired.
4) Rants/raves/concerns? We found out that our good friends are also expecting and due in October. I'm excited to have a pregnancy buddy IRL
5) Anything else you want to add/ask?
@sarebear55 Glad everything is ok!

@sarebear55 Sorry to hear you had unexplained bleeding! That's so scary; I'm glad that everything is okay and the heartbeat is strong.
1. 6w4d
9w3d
2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?

2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?
Just joking
I've been looking up paraben-free beauty products, it might be good to start a general tread about products (including things like sunscreen, etc.) for people to add reviews and ideas if they have tips.
2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? nope, next appointment isn't until April 20th
3) Cravings/symptoms? tired, nauseous/hungry, gaseous, etc etc. BUT I'm feeling pretty good today so yay! Symptoms seem to be really bad for a few days then let up for a day or 2
4) Rants/raves/concerns?
Rant- my bf is sick right now and kept me up half the night snoring >.<
Rave- even though he's sick, he made me pancakes last night since that's the only thing that sounded good
5) Anything else you want to add/ask? not at the moment
6) GTKY: Are you going to go on a babymoon? Where? I'm not sure, we have bright it up a couple times but haven't talked very seriously about it
2) Any appointments this week or last week?
*There is nothing wrong with therapists I just don't think it would work for me to tell a stranger my feelings...says the girl talking to a bunch of internet strangers*
This got long!
9 weeks
2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?
@kyersten aw I'm sorry you're so sick! This isn't my worst week but I definitely feel your pain. Glad you have a good hubby to feed you!
@jess0211 How did your appointment go! That is so exciting, I'm jealous!!!
@sarebear55 I'm glad everything was okay for you
@safinn21 What are you studying?
@DuchessOfCambridge @kschref Wow!
2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? Not until April 26! 22 days!
3) Cravings/symptoms? the uncomfortable middle ground between starving and nauseous. sore boobs. so much phlegm. weird vagina pains. (I've read this is caused by more blood flow to that area...anyone else feeling this?)
4) Rants/raves/concerns?
@adirat I feel so badly that you're so sick! I really hope you're feeling better soon!
2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?
Glad he made it up to you a little bit by cooking pancakes!
sarebear55 Eek, the bleeding sounds scary, but glad you were able to get in and see your LO still progressing along!
safinn21 FX your appt goes well!
jess0211 Good luck asking for the promotion! I firmly believe salary decisions and promotions should be based on merit and contributions, not personal needs.
car1a Good luck at your appointment on Thursday!
Only DH, my OB, the Bump ladies and a random airline stewardess know I am pregnant.
zigzag8412 Shrimp cocktail sounds so good right now. I hope you enjoyed it!
YesOuiCan Oh, ice cream helping with nausea? That seems like a blessing and a burden....definitely potentially dangerous!
I mean I am the person who won't even give up cleaning the cat box (I am taking some precautions) because it was MY job.
Married Since: 7/29/2012
omgosh
2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?
DH: 36
Together since 2007
Happily Ever After 4.30.2015
~~One Beautiful Daughter~~ Born: 11.6.2017
Trying for #2!!
2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?
5) Anything else you want to add/ask? nope
6) GTKY: Are you going to go on a babymoon? Where? Probably not. This move is going to be expensive and I'm losing my job because of it and the likelihood of me finding a job while 20 weeks pregnant is slim.
TTC since August 2018
@adirat I'm sorry you're so sick. Hopefully the HG will be gone for good soon.
1) How far along are you? 8w2d
2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? First appt April 19th
3) Cravings/symptoms?
