Weekly chart stalk/questions week of 3/20

Starting this a little late for selfish reasons.

This is a thread where anyone can feel free to request a chart stalk, second-guess FF's interpretation, or post TTC-related questions, regardless of where in your cycle you are. Sometimes FF is wrong. That's where we come in. Get your second opinion here.

Re: Weekly chart stalk/questions week of 3/20

  • Anyone else look at their "regularity meter" in fertility friend? It's not a VIP only feature, but I never noticed it until now. It's in the app at the bottom of the calendar page once you click on the link next to cycle length. I got 88%, and always thought my cycles were irregular, so it doesn't sound too bad. I'm curious to see what everyone else is getting.

  • @icecubeinthedesert I've never looked at it until now either! It shows I'm 100% regular which I think is completely wrong. Last cycle I was 22 days and this cycle I've just reached day 37.... doesn't seem like I'm regular to me.

  • Mine says 93% and I was definitely surprised...my cycles haven't been wildly irregular but 93% seems a bit high given that there has been some unpredictable variation. I don't know how helpful it really is.

I'm honestly more excited by the shift away from drop down menus for putting CM in! Good change, FF!

  • That's actually a pretty new feature, so we didn't just all somehow miss it for all these months :)

Mine is at 92%, mostly I'm guessing because of my super short an-O cycles because other than that, they've all been between 24-28 days

Yeah, I noticed that a while back and think it's completely wrong. It says 90% for me... In the last three cycles, I have Od on CD21, CD31, and CD27.  However, like @lulu1180 said, it's a relatively new feature and I wonder if it's still being tweaked.  It also uses a year as a benchmark, so I wonder how not having a full year of data in there would affect the percentage for some people.

ETA: I forgot to mention, it may also not be looking at a full year yet. Last time I looked at it, before the last cycles data was in, it was at 92%, so it is adjusting.

Would any of you chart-savy ladies mind taking a look at my chart (linked in siggy?) I'm curious if anyone else thinks I may have O'd earlier than my major temp shift reflects? CM isn't much help because I just don't have very much since my mirena removal :(

    Thank you!

  • @CandyApple2012 Based on your current chart, I would put O at CD18 due to the watery CM and the positive OPKs for the days before.  You can try putting in a fake high temp tomorrow and see if it gives you CHs for that day.  Obviously the only way to tell for sure is to wait and see what your temp does tomorrow.

Also, I would suggest putting either a link to your chart in your post or a screenshot for those on mobile that can't access your siggy.

I've been taking for granted that steady pre-O temps are a good thing. Does anyone know if that's the case? I had a few days of steady temps right after AF left last cycle as well, which was my first cycle temping.

I don't know what causes flat temps, but I have a similar phenomenon sometimes too. Once I thought it was my thermometer because it seemed to be favoring temps, but even when I switched to a new one it happened. I just chalked it up to consistent bedroom temperature and sleep patterns.

  • I don't know about flat temps, but I do know that when I first started temping I didn't realize that I had to hold down the button to see the last stored temp. Instead I was just taking the temp that appeared after 188. So I had like 4 days of 97.70 from when I was too lazy to look at the temp right after taking it before I realized what I was doing!

  • @starla-2, I don't think there's anything known about steady temps as they relate to hormone levels. But I have noticed that my temps tend to steady out in the few days before ovulation, particularly when I just came off BCP and started temping and had a lot of erratic temps at the beginning of my cycle. Nite that I've been off BCP for about 16 months, I'm setting a trend of more overall steady temperatures, but I'm not sure how much of that is more experienced temping and what is regulation of hormones.

  • I'm new to this and still learning. FF says I started my ovulation window yesterday and I should ovulate on Wednesday. Any advice or thoughts?? Thanks ladies
  • @aalauren FF is guessing about your fertile window based on either past cycles or average user data, if you haven't charted a cycle in it yet. You'll know when you're entering your actual FW when you get fertile CM and positive OPKs. Sadly, temping only helps confirm O after-the-fact, but can't help you predict it.

  • @aalauren if you know previous cycle data, like start dates and O days, you can back-enter them into FF to give it a better idea of how to more accurately predict your cycle.

  • Lurking from TTTC, would appreciate opinions if you don't mind :)

should I believe the crosshairs? Sorry for giant image - mobile bumping at work!

  • @smokinangel When do you usually O and what are your post-O temps usually like? I can see why FF has the CHs dotted, your thermal shift is not significant and really only 1 temp is higher than your pre-O temps. But some shifts are very slight, so if you have a chart history that will help.

    starlaBusinessWife
  • Thanks @TravelingCouple
I usually O CD 18 or so, but have been prescribed supplements to try to bring it earlier. Usually get a better shift than that, which is why I was curious. Rarely get a +OPK, so my CH are often dotted. Wondering if the new supplements are helping or if they totally messed up my cycle...
    BusinessWife
  • @smokinangel in that case I'm inclined to agree with FF for now. What supplements are you taking, out of curiosity? If your temps skyrocket from here it could even be CD 27, but it's hard to tell with no +OPK lining up and such a slight thermal shift.
    BusinessWife
  • @TravelingCouple makes sense. The waiting game is killer.
She put me on myoinositol, vitamin b complex, and coQ10, in addition to prenatal, fish oil, etc. said the B vitamins and antioxidants support timely ovulation. Would be funny if it delayed it...
    BusinessWife
  • @smokinangel I purposely took vitamin B6 this cycle with the intention of delaying O. It worked for me (though it doesn't for all women) and I O'd 4-5 days late, and 2 days after I stopped taking the B6. Perhaps that is what has/is happening to you?
    Lilypie First Birthday tickers

  • @kvacmak how interesting! I'll definitely ask about that!
  • Ok all, I need a chart stalk.  I know I ovulated but I want your opinions on when!  In all of the cycles that I've tracked and have confirmed ovulation without a doubt, I have O'd on CD10 all but one cycle (which was CD12, 3 cycles off BCP, first cycle temping).  I wasn't checking CM and CP because I was kind of taking it easy since I had the MRI scheduled right before O and I was waiting on those results.  I also didn't take an OPK on CD10 because I was drinking a lot of water and felt like my urine might be too diluted.  The past 2 cycles that I've used OPKs I only got one day of positives though, one cycle I O'd on the day of the +OPK, the next cycle it was the day after. (sorry for the novel)

So what do you ladies think??

  • Hey ladies, would love a good chart stalking. I pretty consistently O the same day I have a +OPK (obviously you're normal until you're not). Based on +OPK and the amount of EWCM and past history I feel pretty confident that I O'd CD19 (see chart below). Not matter what false temps I put in though FF has my O'ing at CD21. Any thoughts? I've included an overlay of my last two cycles as well. I generally have a slow rise. TIA!

  • @lulu1180 I agree with FF, and that you had a fallback rise. But @starla! is right, your timing is great either way!

@kariann323 I would say O is either CD19 or 20... maybe 21, did you have any CM that day? Because you discarded those key temps, FF is probably not going to ever give you CH for 19 or 20.

    lulu1180starlawabash15
  • Thank you @starla! and @hartmich!

@KariAnn323 I would say that O was CD20 due to the EWCM.  If you have any EWCM today then I might say today would be O.

  • @lulu1180 I agree with starla I think CD9 with a fall back rise but CD11 could be possible too.

@kariann323 I think hartmich nailed it on the head... with those discarded temps right before O its making FF mad... I think you have an argument for CD19 or 20
