Car seat and diaper bag questions

Re: Car seat and diaper bag questions

  • We have a woven wrap and both dh and I carry DD on the front. I have tried to do the back carry but she just screamed both times so we are waiting to try again. I am super excited to buy another wrap. Looking at wraps was among the first things I did post BFP.

I hope to master the back carry before lo2 is here. I think front carrying at 7-9 Mo pregnant sounds like to much.

  • Not sure if you have started your stash yet,but the June ladies just had a recap about CD and this was my info...

I have cloth and love them. I use prefolds, which I pin around her, and a coverall. I like green mountain diaper prefolds. They have many sizes and thicknesses to pick from. I have around three dozen and wash them every other day or so.  I have a few bamboo inserts we used to use at night from blueberry. Also use a mix of blueberry plu coveralls and wool coveralls from gmd. I like them both. I find pinning the diaper around her gives fewer blowouts. We used to use snappies but once she got more mobile and they gave her a horrible friction rash. I have dramco wet bags in the small and regular size. Often I find the small bag is enough for short trips. Also I always take an extra small wet bag for possible poop. And we have a charlie banana sprayer and I rely on it a lot for nasty jobs even beyond diapers.

Adding that didn't pin or snappie the cloth on when she was a NB. She didn't wiggle enough for it to be an issue. Started using snappies when she started kicking and trying to roll. Stopped using them when she started crawling and now we just use pins. Also we used disposables until merconium passed and cord stump fell off.

Also adding the most important thing about washing is to get out any leftover soap. We have an he washer and I take it off turbo wash and add threw extra rinses. It makes a world of difference fighting staining, buildup, and smell.

Feel free to ask me any questions you may have and I will do my best to answer them.

Depends on what you want to make your life easier. For me I love when I can click an infant seat into the stroller - super quick and easy. That way if baby falls asleep in their seat you don't have to wake to move them. I always found myself coming home with baby sleeping in the infant seat - I would just carry the seat into the house and put it down and let them sleep. You could forgo the infant and do a convertible with an infant insert but you'll have to pull out your tiny baby every time you get in or out of your car. You will eventually need a convertible seat to put rear facing till the baby outgrows that - my daughter is still in a convertible and she is almost 3.5 yrs old.

As far as bags, I breastfed my kids till they were each over a year old - I still had a packed bag!! Get one that has comfortable straps, whether messenger or backpack style. I always packed: 2-3 burp clothes, 2 change of clothes, 4+ diapers, diaper rash cream, extra pacifier, water bottle and snack for me, changing pad, blanket unless it was on the car seat. As you can imagine, that fills a bag pretty quickly. What you put in there will also change as baby gets older and then when their 6 months + snacks come into play and boy oh boy you will need the space lol.
    What she said. Haha!

Definitely get the infant bucket seat that clicks into the stroller! We switched to a convertible rear/front seat when Q (our 15 mo) was about 6-7 mo cos he is really long and outgrew the length. We just switched him front facing in the convertible, again.... he's just so tall. DH is 6'7" and little man totally takes after him. We knew we wanted kids close together, so having two different infant and convertible seats was important. Once this baby outgrows the infant seat, we'll probably get Q a bigger front-facing seat that transitions to a booster and put #2 into the one we're using now!

I'm planning to get a double stroller eventually, but for the first couple months, I'll just wear #2 in my Infantino 4-in-1.

As far as diaper bags go..... it's sort of like purses. You have to try them and see what feels good. I have a Skip, whatever it's called one that is an over the shoulder one. It has clips to put on the stroller which is great. But, now that little man is mobile, I dug out my old college backpack and just use that. Knowing what I know now, I wish I'd have gotten a backpack diaper bag from the start. It's not as fashionable, but it's way more practical.
  • I used an infant seat for the first several months with both of my kids because it's so much easier if they're already asleep and if you're running quick errands. One baby can hold their head up and be a "hip baby" it's not such a necessity for me. With baby 2 I did babywearing with her earlier than that it was impossible for me to grocery shop with a 2 year old in the cart seat and an infant seat in the basket. Having a car seat that can fit into your stroller is sooo convenient. Especially because they're really safer and more comfortable on walks in an attached car seat than in the regular stroller seat the first 6 months. THe city mini is an awesome lightweight stroller! After 6ish months I put my kids in a convertible seat. Both of mine go all the way to backless booster so I won't have to buy another.

Ive used a variety of different diaper bags, and I've cloth diapered both kids and Ebf. A larger bag is easier to hold more diapers, but I'm never out long enough at one time to need more than 2-3 diapers, so I tend to use small diaper bags with minimal things packed. Usually, diapers, wipes, wetbag, coconut oil, change of clothes, extra paci, and my nursing cover. If I was ever going to be at a friend or family member's house all day, I would just bring a second small bag with some extra diapers and a change of clothes.
