Registries

A big fat, all encompassing, list everything on your registry (and link to it if you feel like it, or can) list for FTM's looking to build/complete their registries and for anyone else looking to check out all the latest in baby gear and see what they're interested in getting now.

I know we have at least two other threads talking about stuff so far, but no thread that was all encompassing with the registry info. If no one finds this helpful or it's cluttering, we can always just let it fall to the bottom. As a FTM, I think it would be helpful for me to compare my list to what other people have/had and hopefully find out if I missed anything that I didn't mean to.

  • Here's the link to my registry (as how family and friends would see it). I feel like I went overboard yet at the same time missing things... I already have a pack & play and changing table.

  • My registry isn't complete or ready to share yet, but I've been seeing good suggestions on types of stuff to get, as well as specific brand recommendations, from the Baby Bargains, Lucie's List, and Alpha Mom websites. (At least, as a FTM they seem like good suggestions)

No lie.  I'm kind of in awe of your registry.  I didn't even THINK of some of the stuff you had on there (e.g. infant toothbrush) and now I'm really glad you shared because it gives me so much needed help!

    Thank you!

I registered for bare minimum with DD since babies are SO different and you just don't know what they will like/dislike. I loved Lucie's List when I was registering, because she gave honest (funny) reviews and the best options for different price points too.

Personally, I didn't register for anything to do with eating foods (bowls, plates, snack catchers, spoons, high chair etc) or things they would use/need when they were bigger. I wanted to make sure I got the things I needed for an infant before even worrying about anything else. You (most likely) won't even start introducing those things until 6 months and we slowly accumulated that stuff over 6-12months when they are actually using it. Totally my opinion though.

Also, we didn't babyproof our house at all until she started crawling. And even now we have bare minimum because to me it's more important to teach her why rather than just lock her out. Obviously this is not for everyone, and depends on the child, I happen to have a good listener who's not very curious (lol) but there's no reason to have your house baby proofed before baby comes home. All that stuff can be done once baby is mobile and actually getting into stuff. Even now the only thing we've done is locked the cabinet with cleaners, put baby gates on the stairs and outlet covers on.

  • @SaphireSweetie88 I had the same problem with nothing showing on the registry.
@LuLiLaEv Thanks for sharing about the food thing and the baby proofing. We didn't register for anything solid food related, but then DH got it in his head that we need to add high chairs so we did (though I doubt anyone will buy them to be honest since they are ridiculously expensive).
I also plan to baby proof once the babies start crawling. I want to maintain my adult like home for just a little longer... lol.

  • So, here is a full list of everything on my registry (or that was on my registry but that I have already). For me, it's easiest to organize it by category of stuff. DISCLAIMER: I keep repeating myself, but I'm a FTM, so while everything on my list has been researched/recommended, I have no personal experience with any of it. I also tend to be a minimalist, prefer eco-friendly products when they are affordable, and go for low cost, high quality. I registered everything but the diapers through Amazon and Babies R Us. I have a diaper registry at Diaper Junction because the diapers I want are the cheapest on there by far.

    OUT AND ABOUT:
    - Safety first 3 in 1 convertible car seat
    - Moby Wrap (this is my carrier)
    - Baby Hawk Moby Baby Carrier Meh Dai (this is my husbands carrier)

    BATHTIME:
    - Burts Bees Baby(BBB) Shampoo and Wash, 12 ounce bottles, pack of 3 (I love BB for my skin, so I'm sure I will like it for baby too, but I mostly put this on the registry to get me started and to guide people to the brand I want them to buy if they are going to buy lotions, bath stuff, etc. etc. )
    - BBB Hooded towel and 3 wash clothes (registered for 2)

    DIAPERS:
NOTE: I am using cloth diapers except for the first two weeks. I have not included disposables on my registry because I don't want to be inundated with them since I only plan to use them for such a short amount of time. Reasoning: I don't want to try to get meconium out of cloth diapers, and I am trying to make the first two weeks as easy as possible, including not having to do laundry every two days. It's also even harder to find wetness in a cloth diaper with brand new babies, and I want to be able to check that more easily.
    - Playtex Diaper Genie
    - Planet Wise Changing Pad (2)
    - Planet Wise pack of flannel wipes (2)
    - Planet Wise reusable diaper pail liner (2)
    - Planet Wise wet bag, large (2)
    - Planet Wise wipe pouch (2)
    - Bumworks cloth diaper toilet sprayer
    - bumGenius 5.0 One size pocket diaper (24 total). Reasoning: These are all in one (no added covers of inserts needed) one size fits all (so from newborn through toddlerhood) diapers made with organic cotton. 24 is the minimum number of diapers needed to do laundry every other day.
    - Charlie's Soap Laundry Liquid (on the registry more as a reminder to myself and for the completion discount)

    FEEDING:
NOTE: I only plan to pump so my husband can feed occasionally, and so that I can leave the house if I want to without baby. However, since the system converts to pureed food, I am sure I will get lots of use out of it, hence the add ons like the warmer and the chilled bag. Plus, emergency stashes are good. I chose the Kiinde brand, recommended to me by a La Leche League member, for multiple reasons:
    1) the pouch can adapt to almost any commercial brand pump
    2) the pouch slides right into the bottle, no dumping required
    3) the nipples are super great for breast feeding, making baby latch wide, and require suction and massaging to get the milk out, mimicking the work baby has to do at the breast.
    4) The whole system easily converts to pureed food when the baby is ready
    - Kiinde breast milk storage pouch, 40 pack (2)
    - Kiinde breast milk storage pouch 80 pack (1)
    - Kiinde Twist- Squeeze Natural Feeding Bottle (an extra bottle)
    - Kiinde Foodii starter kit
    - Kiinde Kozii Bottle Warmer
    - Kiinde Breast Milk Storage Twist Starter Kit
    - BBB Set of 10 burp clothes
    - Kiinde Twist Cooler Bag

    CLOTHING:
    - Jeffries Socks, Newborn, 6 pack
    - Burts Bees Baby(BBB) Zip Front Sleeper, three 0-3 months, three 3-6 months, three 6-9 months
    - BBB Hoodie, two 3-6 months, two 6-9 months
    - Zando Toddler Infant Baby Cotton Knit Beanies, 6 pack
    - BBB 2 pack footless pants, two 3-6 months, two 6-9 months
    - BBB 5 pack short sleeve body suits, two 0-3 months, two 3-6 months, two 6-9 months
    - BBB Infant Hooded Robe (this was 100% a cuteness buy, not a neccessity)
    - BBB 2 Pack of gowns plus caps, one size (registered for 2, so I'll have 4 gowns total. Got these for the baby to wear before the umbilical cord falls off)

    NURSERY:
NOTE: I plan to room share with baby until at least 12 months, and we are moving from the bassinet to the pack in play and using that until the baby is ready for a toddler bed. No crib, because we will move across the country when the baby is about 6 months old, and moving a crib is a big fat no for us.
    - Halo bassinest (bassinet, swivels into the bed and the one side lowers easily fr easy access to baby at night)
    - Bassinet essentials pack (2 waterproof covers, 2 sheets, and 1 bassinet pad)
    - Graco Pack and Play, Stratus
    - Graco Pack in Play sheets (2)
    - Babies R Us play yard netting (cat detterant for pack in play)
    - Baby Delight Snuggle Nest

    PLAY AND LEARN:
    - Green Toys My First Keys
    - Animal ABC Blocks, Bannor Toys
    - Green Toys Turtle on Wheels
    - Green Toys Shape Sorter

    HEALTH AND SAFETY:
    - Safety 1st audio monitor
    - Safety first Health Essentials Starter Pack
    - Natursutten Rubber Pacifier, Rounded Small, 0-6 months
    - Natursutten Rubber Pacifier, Butterfly Orthodontic, 0-6 months
    - Natursutten Rubber Teether Toy
    - Natursutten Panda Teether (freezer safe!)
    - Snuza Hero Mobile Baby Movement Monitor

    FOR MOM:
    - Bamboobies Nursing Pads Variety Pack, 3 pairs regular, 3 pairs overnight (registered for 2 packs)
    - Milkies Milk Saver Breast Milk Collector (recommended by a mom on here)
    - Instant Pot (to cook dried beans in for food puree)

    ALREADY OWNED:
    - 1 baby blanket, DH's that he came home from the hospital in
    - 1 small quilt, hand made and passed down
    - 1 changing station, mine, wood
    - Humidifier

    GIFTED:
These things were gifted to me, but I did not and would not have registered for them:
-2 outfits from Carters, one terry cloth for after bath time (6 months) and one sleeper with socks, hat, and bib
    - 3 pack of blankets
    - 2 in 1 infant swing/rocker

    PASSING UP:
    Crib: see above
Stroller: won't need until 2 years, don't want to move it
    Baby Bath: find it unneccessary
Any other swing, playset, bouncer: Only wanted one to begin with
Disposable diapers: see above. Will buy Seventh Generation for first two weeks, plus any super long trips
    Tub Toys: Gross me out
Feeding pillows: can cause problems and don't see me using one effectively at this point (I know lots of people disagree with this and swear by them)
Baby gates and other safety equipment: when we need it, we will have already moved and don't want to move it
Diaper bag: I have 500 other bags, and am sure I can figure out a good one to use. I do not need more bags in this house.

  • @LoveLee85 Of course! We're using baby carriers instead (Moby and Baby Hawk Mei Dai) They are both rated for up to toddler size (35 and 40 pounds respectively). I feel a lot more comfortable having my baby on me than down in a stroller, where I can't see them or access them as well, but every other person in the world can poke their hands in. Once he gets older, we can always put him down from the carrier if he wants to walk and then put him back in. Plus, I think it's a lot more compact and easy to maneuver and travel with carriers than a stroller. And we're moving when the baby is 6 months, and strollers are big and will take up a lot of space. So even if I want to use one earlier, I probably won't use one before then, and I don't want to move it. Once the baby is too big for the carriers we have, I figure we can determine what works best for our lifestyle. Maybe a larger carrier if they make it, maybe a stroller, maybe some other thing I don't even know about.

Basically the same reason I only have a convertible car seat and not an infant one. I want the baby in the carrier against my chest, not down in a hulking gigantic heavy thing I have to carry around. So if I'm not going to use it for portability purposes, and we really will only have the baby in one car, what's the point of the infant carrier? The only thing is that if I do for whatever reason have to put the baby down (i.e. I have a doctor's appointment) I didn't have anything to put the baby in. BUT I found a baby nest that I love, and that's portable (even folds into a little bag thing) so problem solved. If I want to put the baby down while we're out, I have the nest, at least until around 6 months when they outgrow it.

  • I only did my Amazon registry for the welcome box. We have so much stuff from both DD and DS that the only thing we really need is a new car seat. Everything else we have because I have hoarded everything, I don't even give hand me downs to people so I have every piece of clothing my kids have worn and everything that they have used. I also started stock piling diapers mainly because we will have two in diapers and shit gets expensive.

  • @kerils oh I love my moby wrap and Bjorn baby carrier, too. I used them at the grocery store for that exact reason. But if LO was asleep in the car seat, that infant carrier was worth its weight in gold to not wake him. I could go to lunch, grocery shop all while he had a baby cover over it so nobody messed with him(they couldn't even see him)!

Also, there is nothing better than baby wearing that little bean the first few months. I'm looking forward to it but this time around I have a July baby and worry about myself being too hot to baby wear out and about. Or on walks. I didn't baby wear as long as I wanted because the Bjorn carrier I had hurt my back soooooo bad when he was above 15 pounds! He is a big boy so we got there fast.
  • I'll also add to the baby carrying discussion. I wouldn't go crazy buying different wraps and carriers because you don't know how your body will respond.

I wanted to be one of those baby wearing moms but I ended up with a swollen disc in my back from the all the carrying early on and spent a good week barely able to walk (literally took me a half an hour with a lot of crawling to get to the bathroom one time---my poor husband had to pick up all the slack as well as help me get around and get dressed etc.). It is tough on your back. And more strain as they get older and heavier. It is hard for me just to get my 18 MO in her high chair these days.

So just have a plan B in mind! You could always get a stroller later if you have problems so I wouldn't say go ahead and buy it now but definitely don't invest a ton of money into babywearing just yet either.

Is this because you have a car that you don't need a stroller? We go out on foot a lot for errands too. I can't imagine carrying groceries in my hands and carrying a toddler on me. We take her on the subway sometimes too. I would never be able to sit with her on me or stand for half an hour hour in a crowded subway car.

Which might come sooner than we thought! But it's just my plan/dream/ideal to do the carriers for two years. So sorry about your back, that sounds awful.

  • Also @kerils have you talked to your hospital about their policy with convertible car seats? When I had my daughter it was a special circumstance with her being born a little early and spending time in the special care nursery. She had to pass a "car seat test" before they would release her. They had us bring in our infant seat and she had to spend an hour (or 90 min can't remember) in it and monitored before she could be sent home.
But regardless, I think they also don't release the baby unless they're strapped in a car seat at that hospital. Which you can't really do with a convertible unless they'll let a nurse come down with you to a car and see the car seat which I don't know if they do.
Another thing to think about is that convertible car seats are more upright than infant seats and my daughter had a floppy looking head even in the infant seat I don't know if I would have been comfortable with how she would look in a convertible.
Just some things to consider I don't know if you've thought about.

  • Isn't there a registry thread already on this page..? Or is this different / did I miss something.

  • We never used a stroller with my kids but that's because we kind of live in the country so when we go to the grocery store it's about a 20 minute drive from the house in our own vehicle. But we used a baby hammock with my daughter and it was a life saver at the grocery store especially since my son was still a little guy.

  • @BusyZee There are at least two other threads talking about baby stuff (one clothes, one gear) but no specific all encompassing registry thread as far as I know. SaphireSweetie88 and I were talking about it, so I created the thread.

@yellow1daisy If all goes well Ill be at a birthing center, so Ill have to ask them what their policy is. I know you have to have a car seat to take baby home, but since convertibles are rated for newborns, I dont think they can argue with it. Whoever is checking it will have to come out to the car and Im fine with that. Thanks for mentioning! Im adding it to my list of questions for my next appointment

  • @yellow1daisy can I please know which cart you'd recommend? That sounds like a lovely idea!

The cart cover my SIL got me was from an etsy store called paisleypineapple (just went and checked the tag). It's awesome quality and comes in cute prints. But it's a little pricey. I'm sure there's lots of good options out there if you do a search.

This thread is giving me anxiety!!!
@kat0607 Don't let it! There's not a whole lot you need. Most of this stuff is to make baby happier/your life easier, but it's not a necessity. If you had none of this stuff and had to bring baby home tomorrow you'd probably be just fine with diapers, wipes and a blanket.  :D

Seeing 20 new replies gave me anxiety again too!
I'm not having a shower so I'm just using my registries for organization and discounts... But please, lord, don't let there be a "total price" at the bottom of the page!

  • @GlitterFish At least on Amazon there isn't a total price at the bottom. It actually annoyed me cause I had to sit there and add it all up to figure out a budget for it

  • I had my friend send me a list. I'm just going to copy and paste her email and keep her random comments, in case they are helpful. I should also mention that she is definitely not a minimalist  lol

CLOTHING (for the first month or so):
    - Long sleeve onesies
    - Short sleeve onesies
    - Sleepers (get plenty of these. Baby will live in these mostly. Baby will also spit up, poop, or pee all over them so you will go through one or two a day)  And get ones with buttons and not zippers! It is SO much easier to just unbutton babys bottom half to change their diaper rather than having to completely unzip them)
    - Socks
    - Pants
    - A few cute outfits
    - A few hats (but if baby is coming in July you might not need them)
    - Some mittens
    - Receiving blankets
    - Warmer blankets
    - Swaddlers (only get a few. Addy HATED to be swaddled so I ended up with a bunch of swaddlers that never got used)
*Don't buy too much newborn stuff. There's a chance baby might either not fit into them or grow out of them fast. I would buy enough things to hold you over and then you can determine once baby is here. We have a FANTASTIC garage sale page here on base. I bought pretty much all of my newborn stuff used for this reason. Back in the states look for stores like Once Upon a Child and you'll get some fantastic deals on used stuff.

    HEALTHCARE:
    - NOSE FRIDA - this thing is really weird but it is AMAAAAAZING. It seriously works. Forget the stupid bulb that suctions the nose. That thing is junk. This thing is a lifesaver.
    - Medicine kit - this was one of the best things that I got. It has pretty much everything you will need to give to baby when needed. I've already used everything in this kit. https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=24270736&cp=3426509.2290653.3243481&parentPage=family
    - Nail clippers/nail file
    - Pacifiers

    BATHTIME:
    - Bathtub - i LOVE mine. It has a sling for a newborn and then for every stage after.
    - Washcloths
    - Body warmer thing. I mean hypothetically you could just use a washcloth but these are larger.

    -
Baby wash (highly suggest aveeno. I've been using johnson and johnson and found it really dries her out. I've gotten similar complaints from many other moms. I will be switching as soon as I'm done this last bottle)

    FEEDING:
    - Highchair
    - Bibs
    - Bottles and Nipples
    - Boon grass drying rack
    - Bottle brush
    - Burp cloths... LOTS OF THEM, you can buy cloth diapers off Amazon and use them as burp cloths... SO much cheaper

    If you plan on breastfeeding:
    - A good electric pump (go with Medela) - See if your insurance will cover you. Most will. Mine only gave me an Ameda pump and it SUCKED. I should've just paid for the Medela
    - Medela hand pump - This thing is fantastic. It's minimal set up, easy to clean, and easy to travel with
    - Nipple cream (your nipples will thank you)
    - Boob pads
    - Nursing cover

    BABY GEAR:
    - Infant car seat
    - Extra car seat base if you plan on both driving with baby
    - Stroller
    - Rock and play
    - Play mat
    - Bouncer
    - Swing
    - Pack and play (get one with a bassinet and a changing area so you can put this in your room for when baby comes home. Don't buy a bassinet because baby will just outgrow it and then you're left with just a bassinet. With the pack and play you can at least keep using it)
    - Mirror for the car so you can see baby while driving
    - Diaper bag

    NURSERY:
    - Crib - make sure you get a convertible one so baby can use it as a toddler bed also)
    - Mattress - you'll want to get a double sided one. Infant side is firmer and the other side is softer for toddler
    - Crib sheets, at least 2-3
    - Crib mattress protector
    - Mesh crib bumper
    - Changing area - we use the top of her dresser as a changing area. Don't waste your money on just a changing table
    - Changing pad
    - Changing pad covers, at least 2
    - Changing pad liners - these things are lifesavers. Mike literally gets poop on them EVERY time he changes her diaper
    - Wipes dispenser
    - Humidifier
    - Laundry basket

    DIAPERING:
    - Pampers swaddlers are seriously the best. We use them during the day and Pampers baby dry at night because they hold more.
    - Pampers SENSITIVE wipes. Try to avoid the wipes with fragrances and what not. They ALWAYS irritate her butt and I know this happens to every other mom I talk to
    - Diaper genie
    - Diaper genie refills
    - Aquaphor baby - great for diaper rash and spots where babys skin is irritated

    FOR WHEN BABY GETS BIGGER:
    - Jumperoo
    - Walker
    - Bumbo (this one is better than the regular bumbo)
    - Shopping cart cover

    MISC:
    - Baby k'tan wrap - LOVEDDD this for when Addy was a baby. It is soo easy to put on compared to all the other wraps.
    - Ergo 360 - this is probably the BEST item I recieved EVER. I couldn't recommend this anymore!!!!!! If you're going to get a carrier and you choose you don't want an ergo, please please do your research. The cheap ones and the baby bjorns are TERRIBLE for babys hip placements. I will gladly tell you other options if you don't want an ergo.
    - White noise machine. We loved out sleep sheep when she was smaller. Now we just use an app on the ipad so it plays continuously.
    - Books
    - Toys
    - Teethers
    - Baby book
    - Baby laundry detergent

  • Great list!! Thanks
     @fancy22
    where do I start aaaahh
  • Very true! Also, some babies HATE to be in a carrier. My last son would scream and scream and scream the minute he was put in one and we tried all of the "best ones"... he didn't like any of them, whereas my first two LOVED being carried.

  • @LuLiLaEv  - I feel the same way. I'm totally starting over with baby gear, so I just want the basics and then I'll decide what to get later. Plus, we don't really need help buying lots of the stuff, so I feel bad asking for things that are frivolous or not needed immediately. I'm also not really registering for any clothing - people like to pick stuff out and have fun, so it's just basic baby stuff for us.

  • A few items on the above list that I have found many negative reviews on...

Nose Frieda Snot Sucker, not only does the concept of this completely gross me out but I found some reviews from other parents saying that this product does not have a proper shield to prevent germs from passing from baby to mama... resulting in mama getting sick after using it.
    *I found this product: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01962MDHA/ref=br_it_dp_o_nS_ttl?ie=UTF8&colid=3QBQ57B1SIENU&coliid=I3NA8D6NQ4JO1X&vs=1
(it's a little pricier but also comes with an additional manual sucker in case you need it, and I'd much rather avoid sucking snot up a tube).

Bumbo Seat, this product is not good for baby's development... see these posts:
    https://articles.chicagotribune.com/2012-03-15/health/ct-met-bumbo-posture-20120315_1_physical-therapists-developmental-benefits-babies
    https://mamaot.com/beware-the-baby-bumbo-seat/

Grass drying racks are known to grow mold in the bottom of the grass blades and tray.
*I chose this one instead as it's easier to clean and dry properly:
