@heatherdubrow once again, you're sort of reading my mind on the weekend. I'm also about to take a trip to Target. I don't reeeeaalllyyy need anything, but I have to go to the bank, and it's right there.
Also, @jsnakehole I so hear you on baby showers. I have to go to a baby shower next weekend and I can think of about 1,000 things I'd rather do. However, H was the best man in this couple's wedding so one of us sort of has to go, otherwise I'll feel like an ass. Since he'll be out of town, I guess I'm up (and yes, it's one of those couple's showers - but it's in a private room at a restaurant/bar, so that's a win).
I am about to head to work, and then my H and I are hosting a cook-off tonight, where 15 of our friends come over and decide if my H or I makes better NE Clam Chowder! Its an anonymous cook off though, so no one will know which one I or my husband cooked. Tomorrow we are going hiking and lounging around.
@heatherdubrow that's what I'm hoping for! I got blitzed at my cousin's bridal shower after my aunt asked me when I'd be getting married (and was painfully single at the time). If anyone asks me when me and my husband are having a baby, I'll go into another party and borrow their alcohol.
Me: 28 DH: 29 Married: 6/2016 TTC #1: 12/2016 Benched due to deployment- Off the bench 8/8/17!
H's basketball team won their first game of the tournament! On the downside that means he has practice today and a team building activity tonight so I have a date with Netflix. But it was so cute watching him last night because he just looks so freaking proud of these boys and it melts my heart
@heatherdubrow I was at Target yesterday afternoon but I was just picking up specific things on a time crunch so I didn't have time to wander! If I get bored today that's where I'm heading.
@jsnakehole baby showers lately are the worst thing ever.
@heatherdubrow@jsnakehole I think all showers should serve alcohol...someone will benefit from it. I swear my H's family thinks I'm a lush. Any time they're planning a shower (and that's pretty often, he comes from a big extended family) I'm the one that suggests serving some form of alcohol. I'm typically shot down.
@hartmich congrats to the H and his team. Enjoy your Netflix date!
The only baby showers/sprinkles I've been remotely happy about going to were my SIL's. And only the one SIL, because I'm not a fan of 2 of my other SILs and I think the last SIL is a horrible mother.
Today I'll be on TB, hanging with H when he gets back, and waiting for April to have her giraffe-baby.
Tomorrow will be house work and then spending the afternoon with my newest nephew (also, coincidentally, from my favourite SIL ), while my brother and SIL take the other two kids to a scouts event.
Ugh, I find all kinds of showers (baby, wedding) to be incredibly awkward and not very much fun. You basically stare at someone opening gifts, exchange pleasantries (which may not be genuine), see people you don't know or don't normally see and then eat petite sized food, usually during a lunch or dinner hour.
Sorry, I am in the "no shower" camp over here. I only had a bridal shower because my mother insisted and it was more of bbq anyway. If/when I get KTFU, I hope no one offers to throw me one. Or if they do...I would rather a casual bbq with no games and no awkward "guess the answer" activities. I can appreciate that people want to "celebrate" the baby, but let's face it...the baby isn't even there yet! So maybe a "meet and greet" later makes more sense for us.
Also, while gifts are great and would be appreciated, we are fully prepared to buy everything a LO needs without needing to have a shower.
A shower with no alcohol is criminal. Good luck today @jsnakehole! target was wonderful! Except I bought way more than I came for...and I may have bought a cute pajama top with the thought that it would look even cuter with a bump. Someone save me from myself!
I eloped so I didn't even get to make everyone suffer through a bridal shower for me. There's an Ulta by the venue so I might do some retail therapy first.
Me: 28 DH: 29 Married: 6/2016 TTC #1: 12/2016 Benched due to deployment- Off the bench 8/8/17!
@jsnakehole I second the flask. I had alcohol at all my showers. DHs family are the big drinkers though so even if I didn't they would have brought their own lol
After last nights anniversary festivities of a fancy steak dinner and Wicked on broadway I fully plan on being lazy for the rest of the weekend. I drank too much and ate too rich last night and now I feel like a zombie lol!
What will actually happen though is meal planning and grocery shopping today and then we might take a trip to the Intrepid Museum tomorrow.
My Godmother desperately wanted to throw me a bridal shower, which was SO SWEET, but we were also in the midst of a cross-country move at the time, so logistically, it just didn't make sense to push for it. She's the greatest tho, and I am literally tearing up right now thinking about her offer. I doubt there would have been alcohol, but it would have been nice just to catch up since I hadn't seen her for years probably, until the wedding day. I'm sorry tho, @jsnakehole under ttc circumstances, I can't blame a girl for not wanting to be at simebody else's baby shower... :/
DH just got back from doing a repair, and now he's asleep on the couch with an instructional youtube video on using radio playing in the background. He's so cute. :D

I was online rug-shopping before, but tbh, a nap is sounding Grrreat! right about now... Later tonight, we're making pizza, and I already prelogged it, so I can enjoy 100% guilt-free!
@Avrilmai haha I mean, I definitely found a couple of shirts that I needed that I didnt, know I needed. I don't think I bought anything that I actually did need...except for maybe kitchen sponges and sandwich bags....
Oh my gosh we just had a horrible rain/ hail storm! We had water coming in the windows and under the door! This has never happened before! It was crazy. Now our road is closed...still trying to figure out why. Dh and I are curled up watching netflix since we clearly aren't going anywhere soon
@KatieEl it was crazy! I was actually worried it would break our windows! Are you ok? I know there were a lot of accidents, trees smashing houses etc. around here.
@jes0211 we are, thank you! (I was also worried about our windows, that was nuts!) hopefully you didn't have enough water coming in to cause any damage?!

@jsnakehole I hate dealing with pregnant women. There's a new Cpt. in DH's unit here and her wife is KU with twins. DH was all like "oh you should reach out to her" but I don't think he gets it. When someone asks when we're having a baby I say something either rude or awkward, depending on the person (I don't like being flat out rude to old people). I second @cdnrunning 's flask idea.
@heatherdubrow On our 3 week Thanksgiving vacation I went to Target no less than 5 times. It's where I bought our second suitcase because of all the stuff I bought there that I had to bring back. I totally have clothes that would look cuter with a bump and when I buy something baggy, DH asks if it's a maternity top/dress/thing.
DH wants to go swimming since the indoor pool on base is opened back up after repairs but I have homework to do. 4 weeks till I have my MBA!
I survived the shower (and the ride between 3 states home in torrential rain). I felt bad not being more cheerful, because my cousin and his wife are just lovely people and (potential TW, to be safe) had a really hard time getting KU. It's not that I'm not happy for them, I'm just sad it's not my time yet when I so want it to be and that there's literally nothing to be done to change that.
Of course, that aunt asked when I'll be making my mom a grandmother. I was nice and just said "Well, my husband has to be home first." Her reply? "Well, you're already 28. Your mom had three kids by that age." Like, for serious? So I just said, "Well I have an Ivy League Masters degree and a career which mom didn't get to have so I'm doing pretty damn good." Like doesn't she get that I literally cannot do a single thing about not having a baby short of quitting my job and flying out to Europe to molest my husband for a sample and then coming home to do everything alone?

@jsnakehole, I feel you on the remarks that don't seem to give the proper weight to a woman's accomplishments. Heaven forbid a woman take care of her own career interests before having children. And now I even feel like nature is mocking me.
Me: 30 | DH: 31 Met: August 2006 Married: July 2012 TTC #1 since June 2016
@jsnakehole and @icecubeinthedesert You are absolutely right about the remarks related to women's accomplishments or rather thr lack of acknowledging such accomplishments within the context of having a family. I heard it a lot from my inlaws and it felt so disrespectful and like my academic or career related accomplishments meant nothing. @jsnakehole I applaud you!!!
Meanwhile, DH and FIL are napping after a hard afternoon of drinking, and I'm thinking of starting to get some writing for work done. And I'm the one who was drinking the 10% IPA....

While booking our activities tonight for our Amsterdam/Bruges/Brussels trip for the end of March, I just realized that whole week is my FW. It sucks because if we aren't successful this cycle, the next will be really difficult to achieve any kind of ideal timing. Between 12 hour flights (overnight), jet lag, train trips and being exhausted from walking around all the cities, it's likely we are going to have a hard time HIO much....ugh.
@slaven: Oh, hotel sex is fun...I am just worried about having the energy/time to get it in. We will be arriving in many of the places around 11:00pm and mornings (before 10am) don't usually work out too well for us...but it's worth giving it a try!
@dragonfly87 DH and I went on a similar trip over the holidays (Frankfurt/Paris/Amsterdam/Brussels), and we managed to get down to business way more than expected, even with jetlag and driving ridiculous amounts of kilometers.
Speaking of DH, we just got a full 25 minutes of phone time. Normally he has a hard time seeing why I'm so sensitive about TTC/baby stuff, but he was very understanding about my feelings about the shower. He's excited to get home so we can start trying again. Of course he's convinced the whole process is going to be way easier than I think it's going to be, but we'll see.
@jsnakehole at least you have this time to temp and get ready and figure things out, unlike me who is just now going to be temping next cycle (cycle 7). I thought it would take no time at all and that I wouldn't need to temp yet here I am...
eta: on a different note, I just took a nap and had a dream that half of my teeth fell out. Night before I had a dream we were having sex at comic con in front of everyone. I've never even been, or have thought of going, to comic con.
@Jsnakehole There's nothing I can say except the situation sucks and I'm sorry you have to deal with it. I'm glad you got to talk for a while.
I just slept for 12 hours and 25 minutes! I even slept through crazy rain and thunder. Between being sick and not being able to eat much of anything due to my test on Tuesday, I guess that was the only thing I had energy for! DH arrives home in 16 hours.
It's funny how it's the little things in life that mean the most...not where you live, or what you drive, or the price tag on your clothes... There's no dollar sign on a piece of mind, this I've come to know! *ZBB*
@slaven, I was having dreams about my teeth breaking and/or falling out every now and then. Turns out, it was because my mouth was actually in pain. I somehow got an infection in my gums that was causing bone loss. That was fun.
I just want to send some creepy internet hugs everyone's way. Last night and this morning were rough and being able to vent it out on the internet and hear some kind words from people who actually understand what I'm going through really helped. Y'all are awesome.
