This is a place for those of us who have already started TTC, but have started infertility testing and/or treatments. You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on infertility. TTC can be a long journey naturally, then add in the difficulties associated with infertility and it becomes a whole new ball game. The road to infertility can be lonely, frustrating, and complicated, so let's make this a place where we can vent, ask questions, and support one another. Feel free to resurrect this thread at any point in the week if you have something to say, and treat this like an ongoing conversation.

I have an RE appointment scheduled for 3/13 and I'm really looking forward to it
How are things going? Okay feeling hopeful about the appointment we have coming up
Any questions? *TW* I didn't know where else to put this question but I've done some research and haven't really gotten anywhere. Is it possible to have some hcg in your system even when your not pregnant? Anytime I take a first response test I get a faint positive but all other brands are always negative. I don't take them often but when I do there is always a faint line. Does anyone know why this could be? I feel like my OB looks at me like I'm crazy that's why I can't wait to go in and meet with the RE. I was going to try and take one in the middle of my cycle and see if it's negative but I don't know if maybe just because it's a sensitive test and if it's possible to have low levels of hcg in your body it can come up that way? It makes me wonder if my CP was really a CP or if I just shouldn't trust first response tests. Sorry if this sounds ridiculous. End *TW*
GTKY: I'm needing some positivity this week, so how do you pay it forward? Or what is one of your favorite ways you've heard of someone paying it forward? a few weeks ago my husband saw a group of special needs children in the pizzeria and they held the door open for him and were so polite so he took them all next store and bought them ice cream, said their teacher cried when he offered.
Are you using a curved handle test @beachbunnyxo123 Is the line pink or grey? Does it come up in the time limit? I know it is common for the curved handle tests to have indent lines which can be confusing and make it seem like a positive when it's not.
@adirat I am so excited for your medicated cycle! I hope AF shows soon so you can get the show on the road! @heatherdubrow may I ask why your switching things up? I hope your frosty is the one! @ladymillil You may have said already but do you have a tentative time to start IVF? @beachbunnyxo123 I second all of @LadyMillil questions. You can have a very low level of HCG in your system normally but it should not be enough to turn a test. If you truly are turning a test and its not just an evap line I would push your OB for a BETA.

@LadyMillil I've used a regular line test a curved test and a digital and they have all been positive but I've never turned a wondfo or another brand, clearly pink not Evap lines or idents. I don't get it.
Eta @wabash15 I feel like my OB thinks I'm crazy and last time this happened my beta was negative.
@adirat Come on AF! I feel like this board is the only board people want to hear that lol. Fx for easy/smooth testing and no delays in starting your first medicated cycle
@LadyMillil I didn't log in last week to see how your appointment went, but it looks like things are headed in the direction you were hoping for. I hope CD 3 shows, and the IVF journey can take off!
@beachbunnyxo123 So have you ever seen the show My Big Fat Fabulous Life in TLC? The lead, her name is Whitney and she has PCOS. Which I'm not sure if she knew before show got three positive pregnancy tests or not, but she did. When she went to the doctor, they did an ultrasound and she was classic polycystic. With her weight being so high, the hormones and the cysts were causing her to have positive pregnancy tests, despite her not being pregnant. Obviously I know nothing about you, so this could really be a case that doesn't fit your situation at all, but it's the first thing that popped into my head when I read that. I am also PCOS, Non-Insulin Resistant, my weight is within a fairly normal range, and I have never turned a test positive. I also don't have the classic cystic ovaries. So I'm not sure if it was specifically her weight or the cysts, but there's that. Your RE will definitely be able to tell you what's going on once your testing is underway!

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) Natural cycle
How are things going? Their going. This is my third natural cycle in a row that I've ovulated. Again, I was totally taken off guard. Especially because I didn't start OPK's until CD 16, thinking I had plenty of time (if I O'ed at all), since the previous two cycles I O'ed in the CD 21-25 range. Well the first OPK was positive. We got in -1, O but I'm pretty bummed it wasn't more. Not that it seems to matter lol, medicated/non-medicated and still no baby. BUT, I am really proud of myself. I've lost 17lbs since November and I truly believe my cycles are regulating themselves because of that, and perhaps the medicated IUI cycles set something off as well. Regardless, if we're not KU by April, when our new insurance kicks in, we're still looking to start IVF.
Any questions? Not this week.
GTKY: I'm needing some positivity this week, so how do you pay it forward? Or what is one of your favorite ways you've heard of someone paying it forward? There is this one Dunkin Donut's by my job that I have gotten my breakfast paid for in the drive through at least four times. I've also done that at the same spot. I love stories about waiters/waitresses getting large tips because they really have a bum job lol. Some day if I ever get financially stable enough to be able to drop like a $200+ tip, I plan on it.
@wabash15 mostly because TW I'm worried about twins. I've had some pretty scary/complicated deliveries. So my RE advised we just transfer one to reduce the risk of twins. End TW if this FET doesn't work and we have to do another FET we will put in two embryos.
Cycle/CD: Finally went back and counted. Cycle 33, CD
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): WTO
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) We were supposed to do medicated IUI, but my doc is taking vacation, so they cancelled the IUI and now it's just a medicated TI.
How are things going? I just want to move on already. It's so frustrating to make plans and every single time when we get close to following through something happens to cancel the plans. My BFF just had her baby and it's killing me. I went to see her and I just couldn't handle it. I cried the entire way home and every time I think about them I start tearing up again. Ugh. I feel awful. But she's so tiny and sweet and looks just like her momma and I want it so bad.
Any questions? Nah. unless someone wants to lie and tell me I am 100% guaranteed to get pregnant (and stay pregnant) on Clomid...
GTKY: I'm needing some positivity this week, so how do you pay it forward? Or what is one of your favorite ways you've heard of someone paying it forward? My husband gets irritated with me because I am a sucker. I always give money to people begging on the street, I always donate a dollar or whatever at the stores when they do the charity stuff ("Your total is 12.32, would you like to donate a dollar to March of dimes?"). I also adopted an elephant... Yeah, total sucker. But hey, I put good things into the world. Even if I am "supporting someone's drug habit," you never ever know if that's what they are actually spending it on. And if they are, that's not something that's my problem. I did good, if they choose to do bad with my good, that's on them. If that makes sense?

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) Desperately awaiting a new cycle.
How are things going? I didn't post last week because I had a lot going on with moving and also nothing going on to report on. I did lurk, in the non-creepiest way possible, when I could. I finally have at least some primary care and OBGYN appointments this week so hopefully I can at the very least get an Rx for Provera. Once I get a referral to the RE the good news is that they don't seem to have much of a wait time, so I can expect to hopefully meet with them next week or the week after at the latest.
Any questions?
GTKY: I'm needing some positivity this week, so how do you pay it forward? Or what is one of your favorite ways you've heard of someone paying it forward? I love sending things like snail mail or flowers to people I care about just because. I always am as generous as I can be with tips for people who I feel deserve it, especially those who often get overlooked (i.e. musicians, bartenders, housekeeping at hotels, etc.) anddonate monthly to a few organizations, both local and national, near and dear to my heart. We always have a donation box in our home to give away clutter/things we no longer use to the Salvation Army. Honestly when it comes to paying it forward with strangers, I think kindness in general is something that goes a long a way and that we are sorely lacking in these days. I love reading about how other people pay it forward.
@heatherdubrow How exciting about your FET. I'll be thinking of/rooting for you!
@adirat I know what you mean about feeling like you don't have much to say- I hate it. It's so weird to be anxious for a new cycle for once!
@KristoKekerooni Sorry to hear about the IUI being cancelled- I would be frustrated about it at least. I can absolutely relate to the impatience to have a take home baby already. FX for you this cycle regardless!
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) Bfn on 11dpo now just waiting on af to see if the dr. Is going to change anything about our plan.
How are things going? Ok I guess. I'm starting to feel like giving up and like I don't care anymore. Like really starting to ask myself what is the difference if I have kids or don't? I'm just really down the last few days. I've had some pretty bad cramping since Friday (10dpo) so I'm sure af is on her way anytime now.
Any questions?
GTKY: I'm needing some positivity this week, so how do you pay it forward? Or what is one of your favorite ways you've heard of someone paying it forward? I just really like to donate to places like animal shelters and stuff like that since I know they can use it more than me. I also always do the gifting trees at Christmas for area kids and seniors.
@mrsdaddario I've never seen that show! That sounds interesting though which was why I was asking. I know the RE will know more about this than the OB. I also don't know very much about PCOS. I'm in the normal weight range and I've been able to confirm O each month through temping and OPKs but I don't really know about testing or how an RE would determine it and my OB has always shamed me for my questions and made it seem like I'm doing too much. My periods are always super light and he just never had much to say about my concerns. Looking forward to actually getting some answers. They said I would get bloodwork when I go so hopefully the time goes by quick!
@magnolia131 hopefully you can get an RE appointment quick!!
@KristoKekerooni sorry that the IUI got cancelled hope you can get rescheduled quick!

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) Trying to set up an appt with a genetic counselor to talk about H's Robertsonian Translocation.
How are things going? Meh. I got a massage today because I deserve it, dammit! I just sort of feel numb to everything still and also like we can't do anything. We keep getting these hurdles. I don't suspect we will be able to do anything until the summer which sucks. H and I did have a really good conversation about if IVF doesn't work what our next steps will be and that adoption is on the table for both of us. He reminded me to be grateful for everything that we have and that we have the opportunity to try IVF if we are able to (pending genetic counselor results).
Any questions? nada.
ETA GTKY GTKY: I went to Morocco in 2015 for two weeks to treat the most severe kids in Physical Therapy clinics in five different cities. I fundraised for the trip and then donated the rest of the money as well as my time off from work to treat the children. It was amazing and sad all at the same time.
@heatherdubrow Thursday!! So exciting! @wabash15 Keeping you in my thoughts, especially on Wednesday! @adirat hoping AF makes her appearance quickly for you so you can get onto your medicated cycle! @LadyMillil I am sure retesting is a little frustrating, but it must feel good to be actively working towards IVF again after such a long wait. @mrsdaddario congrats on the weight loss! @KristoKekerooni That really sucks that the doc took vacation and there was no one else to do your IUI! @magnolia131 I hope you get your RX soon to get started on a new cycle. @kaitlink33 I find that when I am getting really sad and feeling sorry for myself I need to take a break from TTC and really think about "what do I need to make myself happy today" and just focus on that for the day/week/month to get back into the right mind set. H and I had a big conversation about this the other night, what we need to be happy in the end. @beachbunnyxo123 I know that @antoto was "confirming" O through temping and and OPKs but she wasn't actually ovulating and was DX with PCOS. Not to scare you, but just anecdotal info from some of our other bumpies.

@kaitlink33 I know how you feel, this whole TTC process is so overwhelming and lately I feel like throwing in the towel too. I've made a point of not talking about it so much lately and I feel like that has helped me keep the stress down a bit.
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) nothing at the moment, thinking of starting evening primrose oil because I have barely there EWCM
How are things going? Not so great. DH and I have been super bummed lately and when my temp dropped below cover line this morning we both were depressed. Just seems like there's no light at the end of the tunnel right now and I honestly don't know how much more of this I can handle.
Any questions? I had my fertility testing done through my midwife but I'm wondering at what point I should consult an RE. So far all testing on me and DH has been normal but I'm not sure how far the midwife can take us...
GTKY: I'm needing some positivity this week, so how do you pay it forward? Or what is one of your favorite ways you've heard of someone paying it forward? DH was on line at Starbucks once and a group of old ladies was taking forever to order because it was their first time there. He didn't complain at all and when it was his turn to order the cashier told him the old ladies had paid for his drink since he waited so patiently.

@KristoKekerooni I'm so sorry to hear it. It really does seem like the rug keeps getting pulled out from under you guys, and struggling with babies in real life just makes it worse. Hugs.
@magnolia131 I'm glad you have appointments scheduled! Here's to getting provera quickly and getting a move on.
@mrsdaddario Thanks I'm so happy to hear you're still ovulating on your own -- even with moving to IVF having your body in a good place must help.
@Juneroseruby I hope you're able to get in and see a GC soon. Not to be creepy but I googled YH's diagnosis and it seems that people with that type of translocation are often able to have children. I know you're already looking at IVF + ICSI but I really, really hope it isn't more bad news when you see the GC. Hugs.
@shortstack930 It's a tough call to move to an RE, and I think it really depends on what your goal is. If you've had all the testing done and you want to keep trying on your own, then there isn't a big benefit, right? But if you want to try medicated cycles, talk to someone who specializes in this to get a second opinion about a sperm analysis, etc., you should at least set up a consultation. It's been 14 cycles, and an RE may have info about secondary infertility that your midwife doesn't. Good luck.
@adirat Ha, I put the dx in my check in today because I knew you would google it! True, but rates of MC (due to lethal translocations of genes), down syndrome, patau syndrome, prader willi, and angelmann syndrome all go up with this chromosomal abnormality. So hopefully the GC will tell us if we have good odds of avoiding those dx or not. Since I work in pediatrics and have worked with countless kids with all of those diagnoses, I am less afraid of it, and TBH, I already have my little girl's name picked out if she does have DS, freak, I know. But H is more afraid of it, and would rather adopt if our odds are not great. I do know we have to do IVF with ICSI and PGD if we have the opportunity to try.

@Juneroseruby You know me so well! I understand the concern and I hope you get a good GC. I was able to work with mine to calculate the odds of each outcome and I hope they can do the same for you.
@JuneRoseRuby the problem is this is only our second medicated cycle after a year long break. I feel it's too soon to take a break again because when/if we do its just going to be calling it quits at this point.
@adirat so far the midwife did a little bit of CD3 testing, progesterone testing, ultrasound, SA, and HSG but I feel like an RE might be able to recommend more testing/hormone levels to check. I'm not sure what the next step would be at this point since everything so far is normal but I'm ready to move on to medicated cycles or whatever it is we might need. I feel like we're just blindly plodding forward at this point.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) Testing.
How are things going? Pretty good actually. We finally got a bit of positive news here, so I'm focusing on that for now.
I finally got a chance to confirm my TSH levels from the last test I had in January. It's down to 1.82, which is great, but is also sort of unexplained. Given that the last two draws were above 4, I'm not sure if this is a sign that it's correcting, or if it's a sign that it's sputtering. I have to look into it more.
Anyway, on to the actual good news! We got H's follow up SA results back and his count is in normal range! I'm honestly shocked. Its still on the lower end of normal, but it was at 21mil/mL, 75.6mil total. Bad news is, his motility actually dropped and is below 50% now, and his morph is only 2% using strict.
However, positives here. The count is up! I'm hoping this opens up some options other than IVF with ICSI for us. We'll see. H has a urologist appt on 3/8 and we go back for a consult with the RE on 3/14 to discuss testing results and options.
Any questions? Nope.
GTKY: I'm needing some positivity this week, so how do you pay it forward? Or what is one of your favorite ways you've heard of someone paying it forward? I tend to try to just be a generally decent person. I also add the dollar or round up at the store, or will buy donation items at check out if they're offered.
ETA: I should probably mention that based on my limited research (which I plan on doing much more of), this makes it more likely that H's MFI is genetic rather than physical and likely means that his sperm have an increased risk of passing chromosomal abnormalities... Which is, you know, not great news. We'll see what the urologist has to say. Hopefully this boost in count is more than just a wolf in sheep's clothing.
@kaitlink33 I didn't mean to take a whole cycle off, I just meant to take a day, like Saturday, to find what you really need to be happy that day, whether it is a drive with your H and a picnic date, or getting yourself a massage and spoiling yourself for a day, or a night out with girlfriends to chat/cry/gossip, just something to make yourself happy for the day, or a mantra to focus on for the week.

@zwink1 Ahhh finally some good news! I'm happy to hear things are looking up both for you and for him!
Your TSH decreasing is a good sign! It could be for a variety of reasons (and will probably be assumed to be idiopathic) but if you've changed your diet or changed your exercise routine recently, that can have an impact. Ditto reducing exposure to endocrine disruptors in some way (especially occupationally).
What makes you think his MFI is genetic and therefore riskier in terms of DNA? Sorry I can't recall exactly what testing he had done.
@kristokekerooni How frustrating that your treatment was
cancelled!
Diagnosis (If you've been): DOR

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) ER was 10 days ago and we have one embryo that made it to freeze and sent for PGS testing. We have decided to do at least one more ER before doing a transfer.
How are things going? This part is frustrating. I know we won't be doing anything productive for at least a couple of more weeks.
Any questions? I know a lot of people take baby aspirin along with their supplements. Do you just take one per day?
GTKY: I'm needing some positivity this week, so how do you pay it forward? Or what is one of your favorite ways you've heard of someone paying it forward? H and I try to be as generous as possible with local charities and causes that are important to us.

@shortstack930 it sounds like your midwife has done the standard testing. Here's a list of all the hormones my RE wants tested - CD2-4 estradiol, FSH, LH, prolactin, testosterone, TSH, progesterone, DHEAS, SHBG, free androgen index, AMH and then progesterone at 7 dpo. Even though it sounds like your midwife has been thorough on the testing, I would recommend moving on to an RE because a midwife may not have the training/knowledge to really deal with IF and treatments.
@adirat, thanks for the info on the TSH levels! I have changed nothing that I can think of since the November test, except that I added CoQ10 to our vitamin list.
He's just done basic SA's, so my thoughts may be totally unfounded when the urologist pokes around more, especially given that his count was initially low. The biggest area of concern for me is that while his overall count went way up with lifestyle and diet changes, his motility and morphology have actually gone down. Though, morph is impossible for me to accurately compare because the last analysis used WHO guidelines and this one used Krueger strict.
I worded my sentence incorrectly in that it makes it sound like the cause of the MFI and the instance of chromosomal abnormality were linked, which may actually be true but wasn't where I meant to go with that. It's actually a separate study I was browsing on NCBI. I have to do much more in-depth reading on the actual results of the study regarding asthenoteratozoospermia that I was looking at because I did not spend nearly enough time reviewing it over lunch and it could be baseless, but there is research that seems to indicate that men with asthenozoospermia but normal concentration have an increased frequency of sperm chromosomal abnormalities.
I'm probably over thinking this and should just get back to my actual job and patiently wait for the urologist to actually give me info that will be helpful before I jump to conclusions... I just hate that they know so little about this stuff.
@LadyMillil thanks, I think it's a good idea that we consult an RE. The midwife only ran FSH, TSH, prolactin, progesterone, and AMH so maybe the RE can run those other tests and find something she didn't.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) Menopur injections - was 75iu/day, but as of Saturday's appointment, this wasn't enough. I'm now up to 150iu/day for three days.
How are things going? It's been a slow start to get the Menopur dose right without over stimulating. I go for testing again tomorrow (blood work & ultrasound) so see if any follicles have produced. With the higher dose of Menopur, I'm feeling a little bloated & very tired.
Any questions? Has anyone else experienced being tired, feeling twinges, or had bloating on Menopur? I've read some other posts that this can actually be a positive sign that things are kicking into gear. I'm hopeful!

@zwink1 I wonder if the CoQ10 could be it. My TSH decreased an entire point when I switched (per my doctor's advice) from kosher salt to iodized salt. Your thyroid is very sensitive to things that seem minor.
@adirat. You are probably right. I can't think of anything else that is any different. I had read that hypothyroidism can cause over production of CoQ10 in the human body, and that it can be good to take if you're hyper, but hadn't actually seen anything referencing improving thyroid production. I'll take it, though!

How are things going? Ok. Baseline scan showed AFC of 10, which I expected based on previous baseline US. Go back again Wednesday morning for monitoring ultrasound and bloodwork.
Any questions? If you have been thru IVF, when did you see progress with your follicles? Should I expect to see a lot of growth on Wednesday when I go in for my ultrasound? My first US was yesterday.
GTKY: I'm needing some positivity this week, so how do you pay it forward? Or what is one of your favorite ways you've heard of someone paying it forward?
I like to give bigger tips in general at restaurants but once a year usually I give a 100% tip to someone and it's usually not to a server that was excellent but one that looks like they are having a rough day and had made some mistakes and could use a pick me up.
Ive also benefited from someone in front of me at the Dunkin Donuts drive thru paying for me and then i paid for car behind me. It confused the heck out of the cashier but it did make me feel good to both give and receive!
@heatherdubrow Thank you! I'm glad I'm not the only one who has experienced some side effects. It seems like these are actually pretty common and are usually positive things (even though they are uncomfortable at times).

End *TW*

a few weeks ago my husband saw a group of special needs children in the pizzeria and they held the door open for him and were so polite so he took them all next store and bought them ice cream, said their teacher cried when he offered.

I always am as generous as I can be with tips for people who I feel deserve it, especially those who often get overlooked (i.e. musicians, bartenders, housekeeping at hotels, etc.) anddonate monthly to a few organizations, both local and national, near and dear to my heart. We always have a donation box in our home to give away clutter/things we no longer use to the Salvation Army. Honestly when it comes to paying it forward with strangers, I think kindness in general is something that goes a long a way and that we are sorely lacking in these days. I love reading about how other people pay it forward.

Good luck.

@JuneRoseRuby I'm sorry your having a rough time, it's absolutely understandable given the news you've gotten lately. It sounds like you and your H had a great conversation though so that's awesome!
Cycle/CD: 15/14

@heatherdubrow @wabash15 Exciting week for both of you. FX!!
@kristokekerooni How frustrating that your treatment was cancelled!

Take a look at my blog

This is such a good question, I'm just blanking.

@zwink1 I wonder if the CoQ10 could be it. My TSH decreased an entire point when I switched (per my doctor's advice) from kosher salt to iodized salt. Your thyroid is very sensitive to things that seem minor.
@laurad75 I take 1 per day - it's 81mg dose; I was instructed today to stop a few days before ER
