@mightymcqueen yeah I'm not taking any chances for FAS. 9 months isnt going to kill me. I'm just appalled when strangers are like ohh go ahead and have that wine! Do you give just a little bit of alcohol to a baby? No.
@jessieR358 I've had relatives who used to put a little rum/whisky in their baby's bottle to "soothe" them, so unfortunately their answer to your question would be "yes". These are relatives who are closer to my grandparents age than mine, so you could argue that there's a generational gap in effect, but still. People have weird ideas regarding what's "acceptable" for children.
My MIL told my husband that "all the smartest people are born early," as if we're supposed to somehow will the baby to be born early. First of all, we don't have control over that. Second of all, I was born 6 days late, does that mean I'm stupid?
@daniellelynette haha no worries...doesn't help that autocorrect capitalized it! It totally could have meant that too...I've had some patient's family members have some interesting cures for serious ailments like MS (multiple sclerosis in this sense) that I have to be like--um no they can't just 'have a better attitude about it' or 'exercise it' away. It simply doesn't work that way because if it did, it wouldn't be so serious/still an issue in today'a world.
On ms, my hubby thinks I can get up and move and it'll make it ok...insert eye roll...he definitely didn't get much simpathy when he got a man cold on top of the week long stomach bug last week. I told him to 'get up and go outside as it'd make him feel better'...he didn't find it funny.
@Souptin the "spoiling the baby" UGH!! I had so many people including my parents tell me that I was spoiling my son. This always made me SO angry!!
Uhm. My response to this after I had my daughter was terrible. To a room full of opinions/family and my best friend I yelled "who's vagina was recently torn to birth this beauty?!? Oh ok just mine. So that means I know best." Not my most shining moment....but I never got bothered again!
On the topic of morning sickness I was told by a co worker she didn't have morning sickness so she can't understand why I would have it. I need to stop being so sick, it's inconvenient.
you know what's inconvenient, that fact I was suppose to have a date night with my husband tonight but instead I've been throwing up all night or that I always have to run to the bathroom during patient rounds because I'm either peeing or vomiting and it takes me forever to get anything done!

Go barf in her trash can, that'd be pretty inconvenient for her
@klcarr19 OMG there have been times I've wanted to say something along those lines, but bit my tongue. I probably won't be as reserved this time around.

Hehehe, this made me laugh out loud. What every new mom thinks and doesn't say! Love it.
I got *so* mad when many people recommended we get rid of our 3 cats because they were going to sleep on the baby and suffocate him. Honestly, so many people said this, and they all knew how much DH and I love our cats. Two of them are rescue cats that we had for 8 years already when DS was born. And guess what? Except for a few peeks at the baby through the crib, or snuggling in the sun on the lower part of the pack n play, they wanted absolutely nothing to do with him. They still don't, but that may be because he tries to yank all their fur out at 15m.
I also had a bunch of people ask me why I was still exercising after I got pregnant, and especially towards the end. I attribute a lot of my ability to push out my sunny side up baby (and not need a C section) to being active up to 38w.
I also hate it when people say not to exercise after getting pregnant. I remember talking to someone the other day about my mountain biking and them telling me I shouldn't be doing that because "I could fall and hurt the baby."
My OB gave me her stamp of approval to keep doing it since I was already riding beforehand. I'm not about to go flying over any dirt jumps now that I'm pregnant but I would like to stay active.

I pushed out a 9lb, 5oz baby who was sunny side up. I also attribute that to the fact that I exercised all the way up to about 38 weeks. After that, it was so hard to exercise, but I still walked a lot.
I haven't gotten any bad advice but at my last appt one of my doctors was telling me that when her sister was pregnant 40 years ago her doctor told her to only drink slim fast and not eat. I couldnt believe that was ever good advice especially from a doctor!
Oh boy. My super Korean, superstitious family have come out of the woodwork with their crazy advice. Top two I can think of: -you have to stop watching "bad" things on TV, the negative energy will negatively impact you child.
We watched an episode of Criminal Minds before bed almost every night while I was pregnant with DS. He has yet to prove he's a sociopath

We worked our way through Hannibal and the Walking Dead. DH and I are still breathing, so I guess it's all good, right? Or is it that they crazy town doesn't show up until they are teens??
