This is a weekly check-in for those in their 2nd trimester: weeks 14 through the end of week 27.
Congrats to all the strong ladies who have made it this far! It's such a great feeling and we've all accomplished so much! We are now 1 week closer to the end of this especially long journey we call "infertility."
Please post below a little about yourself, how many beans you have growing inside, if you have found out the sex(es) and what your EDD is. Please also let us know how far you've made it on your journey and when your next appointment is and what for. If I'm missing anyone from this list, please let me know and I will add you.
Please let us know when you have graduated to 3rd trimester so that I can update our list!
Mommies to be:
@kelrauh EDD 5/14/17 with 1 boy and 1 girl!
QOTW: What trip do you hope to take your child(ren) on before they move out of your home?
Re: 2nd Trimester Check-in Week of 2/6
Also got the call this morning that the nursery furniture is ready to be delivered! We scheduled the delivery for Saturday afternoon. I'm so excited! We have a convertible crib, extra wide dresser with changing topper, hutch for the dresser (that will be used as a bookshelf on the floor until we no longer need the changing topper), armoire, and night stand coming. Can't wait to start setting up the nursery!
QOTW: The easy answer is Disney of course, but I know that's going to happen 100 times throughout her childhood anyway. So I'm going to say France, specifically Alsace, to visit my relatives. It's something my parents did with me when I was younger and I have some amazing memories there. I can't wait to take my daughter and show her some of her heritage.

I have a cold (thanks DH for sharing!) and am miserable today! I read the info from my OB and it looks like I can take Sudafed (friend recommended the 4 hour kind) which is kind of bizarre to me since it's sold behind the counter. I've tried getting by with just Tylenol and saline spray to no avail
QOTW - we used to live in the Caribbean and I would love to take the LO back to St. Thomas to see the beauty that we experienced for a few years after living landlocked in the midwest our whole lives! My parents and I never took beach vacations when I was growing up so this would be nice for us to do.

I'm sorry you aren't feeling well! It really sucks being sick while pregnant. I'd be careful with Sudafed though as doctors are very divided on it. I've had some doctors say it was ok and others say to avoid. My pharmacist said no way to Sudafed and that alone made me worried enough to avoid it altogether! I did take Benadryl when I was sick and that helped more than Tylenol and Robitussin did. Also, drinking warm water (not hot) with lemon and honey helped too. If the water is too hot though it will kill the nutrients. I hope you feel better soon!

I can't wait to do a Disney trip (multiple). I didn't do real trips as a kid so that's definitely something I want to do with mine.
byrneme I also have a head cold. I'm sticking to fluids and Tylenol. Also taking my temp several times during the day making sure it doesn't hit 100. It got close yesterday at like 99 but I put on cool rag on my head. An hour later it was down. And of course today I wake up with a toothache. I have read that teeth/gums are more sensitive during pregnancy. I want to use Orajel but I think its a class C something so I'd rather just live through it.
@wifeinraleigh28 Is the nursery all set up for the furniture to go in?? How exciting! Our furniture started arriving but our nursery is still hot mess so nothing is set up yet which kinda sucks.

QOTW: What trip do you hope to take your child(ren) on before they move out of your home?
I really want us all to visit the British isles when the kids are way older. We have some Scottish heritage so I've always wanted to go.
BFP Oct 2011 - DD born July 2012
TTC again since July 2014
First IUI 9/26/16: BFP!
EDD 6/19/2017
It's a girl!
Born 6/26/17, 9lb 5oz
QOTW: camping trips especially at the beach. I have such fond memories of camping holidays as a child running wild. My parents did take me on amazing overseas holidays but I enjoyed the relaxing ones more!
wifeinraleigh28 antibiotics are safe but they can take a toll on your and babies microbes (the good ones). Make sure you eat a particularly healthy diet with low sugar, high fiber and I'd also take a probiotic. I read this really interesting book when I first got pregnant https://letthemeatdirt.com
byrneme I hate the gaps too! It'll be easier once I can feel some kicking to reassure me!
So glad to hear your foot is doing a lot better @wifeinraleigh28 Super exciting to have the nursery furniture on it's way and to start setting it up! I can't wait to be there.
@byrneme sorry you're sick, hopefully it doesn't last long. Awesome that you lived in the Caribbean, St. Thomas will make for amazing family beach vacations!
@JaneJane sorry you're also sick but glad your temp is down. My teeth have also been super sensitive, they hurt real bad when I eat cold stuff but I can't stay away from ice cream so I just suffer through the pain. And my gums get swollen and sometimes bleed, I've always flossed and I use a soft toothbrush but I can't avoid it.
@kdanjou so exciting that you are feeling your baby kicking a lot!
@Nellin I'm only 16 weeks but I've been trying like mad to lie still and see if I feel any flutters every chance I get but nada. Hopefully you feel something very soon!
I'm 16w3d. My next appointment is this Friday with the OB, at which I'll schedule my 20 week A/S. My sleep has been crap and I'm utterly exhausted. I was getting really nauseous and dizzy while lying on my back, and per my OB, even though it's still a little early my uterus is putting pressure on my vena cava, lowering my blood pressure and causing me to feel this way. So no more back sleeping for me. Unfortunately, I'm not a side sleeper and no matter what I do, I can't get comfortable. I've tried the back and belly pillow, regular body pillows, buying new regular bed pillows, and tried sleeping propped up at an angle - and nothing! I hope I figure it out soon. Any suggestions? On a happier note, I had my first pregnancy massage. Even though my sleep that night undid all the body work from the session, the massaging of my jaw totally helped with my TMJ pain. Can't wait for the next one!
QOTW - Mexico and Micronesia. SO is Mexican and grew up on a dairy/cheese farm till he was 10 and came to the US. I really want our children to experience where he came from. I'm Micronesian and grew up taking many trips there (Pohnpei, Micronesia) to visit my huge family, including my 5 half brothers and sisters. They were amazing, even had my "first kiss" on one of those trips. Also, we had to use a sperm donor, and the donor is Micronesian, from Guam. So I look forward to visiting Guam on those trips to Micronesia as well!
I moved my sono to next week, he said it was a little too early. So my hubby and I will be spending Valentine's Day with them for their anatomy scans and hopefully be finding out the gender
@wifeinraleigh28 we cleared out the nursery this weekend too! That's so exciting that your furniture is ready already! Take pictures and share
@Nellin I've been waiting for flutters and movements too. I think I felt one of the babies 2 times but not sure if it's just food digesting or gas moving around lol
I'm joining all of you with colds. Its miserable. I'm trying to just do fluids and natural vitamin c. Hopefully it clears soon!
I started to register this weekend-- super big moment for me! I can't believe I have a partial registry, SO crazy and so exciting. Also made it really set in that their are TWO little babies in my belly. Cannot believe all the things that I will
need double of.
QOTW: def Disney. My husband never went as a kid, so I think it's going to an amazing experience watching him see it through a kids perspective. I coach and had a national competition there for 12 years, so I know Disney in and out. He came with me one year and got the quick view of it- but it's so different when you are a kid or are with a kid! I also look forward to cruises with them. I grew up going on summer vacations and we loved cruises. I want to create those memories with my children!

Ive been having lots of round ligament pain over the past week and yesterday my hips felt out of joint as if they were shifting. Stretching helped but I'm hoping this improves.
QOTW: Disney is a top vacation spot that we want to go to with our little one. We've talking about going for years but just haven't made it there! I wanted to plan a little babymoon there but as of right now the tickets are way too pricey on the days that I have an extended weekend from work.
Sorry everyone is feeling sick lately. Cold and flu season is in high gear. I've been lucky and have avoided it so far! Knock on wood it continues!!
I grew up in South America and traveled a lot back and forth to see my relatives in the States, so we'll likely be doing some of that in reverse--I'd like to have my kids be comfortable with international travel and navigating airports early on. Also, I specialize in Ancient Rome and Greece, so my kids are totally doomed to get dragged there at least once for interminable museum and archaeological site visits. But more realistically and frequently, I'm just looking forward to car trips around Northern California where we live, for hiking and outdoorsiness.
On a random note, my perennial SweeTTarts addiction has reared its head once more and now my tongue is all weird and raw from eating so many over the past couple of days.
.
I am 20w 6d today and this week I have really figured out my LO moving around. It all hit me early last week in the afternoon after lunch, it was so much movement it was def not gas bubbles and now I expect it after every meal. this LO loves food more than i do it makes it easier to talk to him/her knowing he/she is moving around. so no appointments this week which is ok b/c after last nights game i need to just chill out.
QOTW: i dont know of anywhere particular that i would love to take my children but i would love to have the opportunities that i did as a kid going on multiple vacations as a family to all sorts of places on the east coast from ME to PA to FL
No appointments for me this week--I do the GCT on the 14th, then start on every-two-week appointments.
As for travel--that is huge for us. The theme in our nursery is a sort of loose travel/map theme. I love maps and atlases and globes and will have all that sort of thing incorporated in the room--I'm making a hanging lamp out of an old globe, and will decoupage a huge map onto the closet doors. I'm also making string art for the walls with each of the continents and found some really cute drawer pulls made out of maps or little globes (haven't decided which I will use--waiting to get a dresser then will buy whatever seems like it will be best).
So. We love to travel. My husband and I haven't exchanged Christmas or anniversary or birthday gifts for well over a decade, and instead use that money to travel together. We've been to a lot of places and are really excited to share the world with our little girl! We've already booked our first (teeny) trip after baby arrives--going to Lincoln City on the Oregon coast when she's 3 months old to see the solar eclipse. We're working on baby #2 after that, but plan to head to Hawai'i with my sister once that baby is here and a year or so old. We want to pay for my sister and her husband/kids to go as a sort of 'thank you' for donating eggs. She's always wanted to take her kids, because we lived there for a year when we were young, but she'll never be able to afford it and I'd love to surprise her with plane tickets and a rental house.
Once the kid(s) are a little older, we've got a return to Amsterdam and Paris in our sights, as well as Australia and the Great Barrier Reef and just everywhere. Travelling is one of the things I have always looked forward to doing as a family. I grew up beyond poor and never travelled further than nearby camping trips (which are also awesome....), but I want to broaden the horizons for my little ones and see all there is to see.

@Colleen0516 Yay and congrats on starting your registry! I found it SO overwhelming, being a FTM and knowing nothing! I found that taking it slow (as in, just researching 1 product at a time and then taking a break for a few days) was helpful. It took awhile, but I was able to decide on the car seat, stroller, crib mattress, bottles, etc. The research also included talking to people I trusted about their experiences. Oh, and I will definitely share pictures once our furniture is delivered!
@cato99 Congrats on almost making it to 3rd trimester! Must be such a wonderful feeling. Time is flying!
@rmarble23 Congrats on feeling movement! Such a wonderful feeling, and it never gets old!
I'm so sorry that so many of you are sick! Spring (and thus the end of cold/flu season) needs to get here already!! But I love the fact that so many of you want to take your LO(s) to Disney! Pretty much my favorite vacay spot EVER, even as an adult, and I can't wait to share it with my children and watch their faces light up with Disney magic. Loved reading about all your other travel desires as well!

I'm 18w3d today and jealous of all you feeling movement! I found out that I have an anterior placenta at my last scan, so it may be a bit longer for me. Everything is just sailing along for now and house shopping has officially started. Crossing my fingers we find something by end of March, so I can start nesting and buying things.
Sorry to hear that a bunch of you have a cold. Mine lasted three weeks and I'm trying to avoid getting another one. Hope you all feel better soon.
QOTW: I don't know if I have anywhere specific that I'm dying to take my LO. I do want them to experience traveling and going on an airplane though. My family only went on car trips and I did not even go on a plane until my late teens. My DH is from Alaska, so I'm sure that is on his list for this one. I just want them to see some other parts of the world and different cultures. I love traveling, so hoping having kids does not stop us.
This weekend, we started transitioning my soon-to-be-3-yr-old into his "big boy bed" so that it won't be too traumatic when DS2 takes over the crib. Between that drama and my continuing hip pain, I haven't gotten much sleep this week! But now that we have DS1's bed in the nursery/bedroom, I'm starting to rearrange furniture to get ready for DS2. Even though we have 3 extra bedrooms, we're going to try having the boys share a room for the next few years so that we can all be on the same level of the house. When the boys get a little older, they will move into their own rooms downstairs. FX that this arrangement works, as it will save lots of trips up and down stairs and keep our little family all cozy together during this special time.
QOTW: We live in the NC mountains where a lot of people go for vacations. We are lucky and have the Blue Ridge Parkway practically in our backyard, so a lot of our adventures will be close to home! But we also love the beach and hope to take the kids there a good bit. Most of our vacations center around the outdoors.
@beckij34 The same thing happened to me last week, and it was a little scary. When I called my OB to let them know I hadn't felt him move as much over the past couple of days, I was expecting them to say to do a kick count or to come in to the office, but they sent me straight to L&D for monitoring, which really scared me. But everything turned out okay, and my little guy got back to his usual active self within another day or so. I hope your little one gets back to normal (and reassuring) kicking activity soon!
@Colleen0516 Congrats! Such a great feeling!!

Hi everyone! This is my first post in the second tri boards, so crazy to be here! I am 14 weeks and 2 days with a singleton, due 8/8/17. We just found out 2 days ago we are having a GIRL! DH and I are just so excited! We would obviously love a boy or girl just as much, but almost all of the kids in our family are boys, so we are so happy to be adding a girl to the mix. My one and only niece is thrilled My last appointment was our first trimester NT scan and blood work to determine gender and look for trisomy 13,18,21. Scan looked great and all blood work came back normal We didn't do a big gender reveal, just something for DH and I (mostly bc I couldn't have waited for a party, haha), and it was just the best day! Something I will definitely remember forever! My next appointment is just a Doppler check on 2/27, then I have my detailed anatomy scan on 3/20. We will be looking closely at the heart on this scan since we did IVF and there is a very slightly increased risk of heart defects (which I am sure many of you know ). Also we have announced our pregnancy to all of our family and friends and shared on social media. As soon as we got a good report back from my last appointment I was ready to let the secret out. It feels soooo liberating! QOTW- I think I am most excited about taking our children to Yellowstone National Park. I have a lot of fun child hood memories of vacationing there, and DH has never been! Its just a really amazing place!
I am so sorry to here so many of you are sick! DH has a cold and I feel like I have been dodging sick people at work left and right! So far I haven't caught anything, knock on wood!
@byrneme I bought a fetal Doppler and was able to find a HB within 5 min or so at 13 weeks. I can usually find it in the same spot, which is pretty low on my abdomen given she is still so small. It was only about $30. Someone on the 1st tri board posted a link, it was fetaldoppler.net and it was the Sonoline B Fetal Doppler. I really like it, it seems to work well! I think it is more fun than anything, and I just love to hear her little heart beating! It's nice to hear her since I can't feel her moving just yet .

My MFM also alerted us to the increased risk of heart defects with IVF + ICSI, which is why we had a fetal echo done last week (which they do at around 22 weeks). I don't know what causes it either, but it is a very slight increased risk so really nothing to get too worried about. I took it as an opportunity for another ultrasound!
@byrneme The swooshing sound of the placenta is slower than the heartbeat, but it can be difficult to distinguish. I had my OB point out the different sounds to me at one of my regular prenatal appointments so I could become more familiar with it for when I do it on my own! There are also YouTube videos that show you the difference!
