Re: Weekly Randoms - 1/16

  • I'm at my appointment waiting on my midwife to come in and I can't seem to recall what I need to ask her.  I normally make a list.  I'm excited to hear the heartbeat - and it's all I can think about!  So happy I didn't have to get up super early and lecture this morning.

  • Woke up to snow this morning. Didn't realize the roads were so bad. Dropped DS off of at daycare and called my boss and told her I was going to work from home. Love being able to work from my couch!
  • I'm done being pregnant. Not physically but mentally. I just want to hold my baby and start dealing with non sleeping nights and trying to breastfeed. All I need to buy is a new car seat so I'm going over and over what I should buy bc that's all I have to think about but I'm not ready to buy right now. I'm remembering how hard it was to do everything so I want to get to it and get my system down.
  • I think I'm coming down with a cold. But it's a really bad time at work and I want to try and brave through it.

This is a 'mom win'!!! Good call!! Lol
  • About to run errands with DS in this awful cold weather!! I have a certain window of time, aka the sweet spot, for when DS is fed, happy, not sleeping.....here we go!!! I'm already exhausted but I'm buying myself a fountain Coke on the way!!! My motivation, sadly! LOL

I'm always extreamly lactose intolerant during pregnancies......and all I want is ice cream?!?! I can never have it, and my husband said that's probably why I didn't get very big last pregnancy. HA! I couldn't have the one thing I always craved. So annoying! Oh well, random fountain Coke it is!
  • @ams512 I really thought your comment said your sister just found out she was pregnant at 16 weeks and I was about to ask how in the world she went 16 weeks without knowing. Congrats to your sis!

  • @LoveLee85 have you tried taking lactaid? I've been extremely intolerant my whole life. When I was young it was a real allergy. I couldn't survive without the stuff! My OB is fine with me taking it during pregnancy.
  • @kerils my coworker didn't realize she was pregnant with baby #2 until four months in!  She assumed she was too old to get pregnant again (she's in her 40s) and just thought she was gaining some weight.

She always wears loose dresses anyway so no one at work noticed either until she was further along.
  • This might be an UO but am I the only who thinks that a teething toy with a hole in it is almost destined to get moldy if you don't clean it like every two days and make sure it's thoroughly dried really regularly? And maybe even then? At a certain point you have to use common sense and not just blame the manufacturer for not being absolutely perfect. I'm all for going after fraudulent sellers and truly dangerous fault merchandise but this is like, come on. Use your head.

  • @kerils thank you I thought I was the only one who felt that way. Although I do think it's a good thing to talk about with toys, especially bath toys, being nasty inside since it wasn't something I never thought about before kids.
  • @morgarita I didn't even think about bath toys, but yeah, same thing. I might doom my children to only playing with bath paint. I'm thinking about the bath toys I had and they were disgusting without opening them up. Do they even make bath toys that don't have holes?

This!!! I refuse to have rubber ducks or any bath toy/teething toy with a hole in it! We just use hard plastic toys in the bath, or my Tupperware. Works great!

My husband's sister was seriously 4.5 months when she found out she was pregnant! Irregular periods and being overweight both make it harder to recognize early on. I found out at 4 weeks with both my pregnancies and I'm kinda jealous that she got to miss HALF of the freaking waiting around!!
  • @kerils I've seen people use hot glue and plug up the holes. I just go to the dollar tree and get new toys often. We actually don't even have toys right now he usually doesn't care. Also I learned to wash out that snot sucker ball with hydrogen peroxide after sicknesses. The nose frida didn't work for us.

It's amazing how long my baby can entertain herself with a cup and a spoon in the bath tub haha

I don't disagree with you AT ALL. But to be fair, Sophie is like Mr. Rodgers. In every household and totally trusted. So I don't totally blame the consumers on this one. Bath toys, yes.
  • The Sophie thing scares me a little. I live in a really humid tropical environment. My clothes, particularly leather, develop mold on them if I don't wear them for a while, and I have to wipe them off from time to time.

I'm worried about whether any toy with a hole will ever completely dry properly and be mold-free where I live.
  • We found out about the mold in the bath toys the hard way. GROSS.  But I just thought, "Oh duh, I should have thought about that!"  Seems like something that should be in the parenting books.  DS likes the foam letters and numbers that stick to the tub, and his favorite bath toy has been a colander for years lol.

My sister had a similar situation! I think she was about 14 or 15 weeks but she gets irregular periods and has issues with her gallbladder so she blamed any nausea on that (she never really had bad MS anyway). Plus chasing after two LOs had her feeling exhausted anyway lol

I use a lingerie bag for bath toys and hang it by the bathroom window. It's one of those mesh bags you use for washing delicates. I put the wet bath toys into it and open the window during our evening routine so that they can drip dry and get a little window breeze. But we also don't use toys with small holes in the bath tub, just regular hard plastic toys and cups.
  • @mrscate88 We had a similar toy bag, but I just never thought about the water sitting in the squirt toys.  *gag* Live and learn.
  • For the people who knew people who didnt realize they were pregnant - you know that TLC show "I didn't know I was pregnant?" One of my best friend's sisters was on the other version - "I STILL didn't know I was pregnant." She claims she didn't know she wasn't pregnant with either of her kids. No one believes her bc she was with guys who were absolutely worthless and she just happened to be out of town both times she went into labor so that her family wouldn't be around. She's also a complete liar about all aspects of her life.
  • I'm curious...is there going to be a new bachelor thread each week or are we just using the first one through the season?
  • @Cait32 @BKinney0506 I vote for a new thread!
  • @Cait32 @Cynth0104 I agree! I can't watch until Tuesday each week!
  • Made my first Chinese soup from the stuff my mom sent. Started off with the easiest one. Peach gum and papaya dessert soup.  Google tells me peach gum is resin extruded from a peach tree.

Yes actually! They all taste like coconut and I HATE coconut anything. Lotion, water, flavor and smells. Lol I guess I'm just too picky.
  • @LoveLee85 There are WAY MORE options for vegan/dairy free ice cream than just coconut! I can't believe I missed your earlier comment. So delicious brand makes cashew and almond milk ice creams, there are other brands as well, they make all kinds of flavorings for them. Ben and Jerrys just came out with 4 awesome dairy free flavors that are loaded like all their other ice creams. AND you can make ice cream from bananas. It is insanely easy. Chop up the banana, freeze it, then put it in a blender or a food processor (the food processor works better and faster but a blender gets it done) and keep mixing it until it's creamy. You can eat it straight up from there, or put it back in the freezer. Plus, you can add all kinds of flavorings to it like PB, chocolate, cocoa powder, nuts, maple syrup, agave syrup, other fruits like strawberries or blueberries, omg. Google it. Also, if you live in a big city (or possibly even somewhere smaller!) you may be able to find a place that has vegan ice cream just like a dairy queen or other ice cream shop.  I know Austin, TX, Los Angeles, and Phoenix, AZ have places, and I can give you recs on all three if you want. Go to the website Happy Cow and put in your city and you'll get a really comprehensive list of all the vegan and vegetarian restaurants in your area and if there is an ice cream place, or a restaurant with ice cream, it should show up. Also, if you're missing out on cheese, there are pretty good subs for that too. And if you need milk for anything, there are seriously almost 10 different kinds. Almond, hemp, hazelnut, cashew, oat, etc. etc. Don't get discouraged just by the coconut. Yes, pretty much everything with coconut in it is going to taste like coconut, but the other non-cow dairy alternatives don't have that same problem. Coconut is like bananas, the taste just can't be buried.
Sorry for the over zealousness, but I'm a vegan and vegan ice cream rules.
