Re: Randoms - Week of January 2nd

  • Random vent, same as last week I'm tired of people asking me when I'm due. It seriously irks me. Like half the people that ask aren't coming to the hospital to see me, nor would I want them there.

Question for everyone, how is your hair? I seem to be losing hair, not like bald spots but shedding. I would think the prenatals would help with hair as this is what I've read and was told, but it seems to be the opposite for me.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @WishingforLuck my first trimester I lost a lot of hair. I was frustrated and thought the same thing. It is now growing like crazy. I think its all just hormonal and normal. I also read you lose it like crazy after birth.

  • Am I the only one that has a weird taste in my mouth all the time?? Maybe it's b/c my mouth is constantly dry and I'm always thirsty but I just always have a weird taste!!

    TTC for 8 years.
Started in 2008 with timed intercourse, ovulation testing, no official monitoring.
OB-GYN recommended Clomid and timed intercourse, attempted for 6 straight months.
First surgery June 2009 (OB-GYN): diagnosed with stage 4 endometriosis and large hydrosalpinx on right tube.
Second surgery (July 2009, RE performed this): Right tube had to be removed, lots of adhesions removed.
Attempted "trying on our own" as per RE recommendations, unsuccessful 5-6 months.
HSG performed December 2009: left tube open.
February 2010: started Femara and timed intercourse, attempted 6 months, no BFPs.
Took a break for a while.
January 2011: started IUI process, ovaries never properly responded to medications, 6 failed attempts, never actually completed an IUI.
Took 2012-2014 off due to depression and frustration (side note: did complete grad school to become a nurse practitioner- great distraction).
2015: started seeing RE again, went through tons of testing and HSG, left tube now blocked, only option is IVF.
September 2015: Started first official IVF cycle, cancelled in October due to large cyst on left ovary.
October 2015: started on birth control for 2 months.
December 2015: attempted to start another IVF cycle, cysts on both ovaries on initial ultrasound, left was huge, cancelled to aspirated cyst.
January 2016: Cyst back, surgery for ex-lap, cyst and adhesions removed.
March 2016: Attempted second IVF cycle, estrogen way too high, cyst back, cancelled again.
April 2016: Third attempted IVF cycle, 7 eggs retrieved, 2 mature (but not great) embryos made to fresh transfer, neither implanted.
May-Sept 2016: Break to regain sanity.
Sept-Oct 2016: Attempted fourth IVF cycle, very successful, cyst still on left but we ignored. 7 mature "great looking" eggs retrieved, 4 mature embryos made it to day 5 transfer. Transfer aborted due to large amount of endometriosis fluid in uterus.
FET of 2 embryos completed on 12/12/16.
    12/22/16 1st Beta 179 BFP!!!
    12/24/16 2nd Beta 449!!
    EDD 8/30/17 with two girls!!!!!

  • @WishingforLuck It can get a little tiresome to answer the same questions over and over. I saw a shirt a while ago that said "the due date is ... we're having a .... no, you can't touch the bump." I just usually say the end of the month since he's going to show when he's good and ready. As for hair, mine is growing faster, but doesn't seem to be thicker or shedding more. We'll see what happens after....
@tiffanyw1783 That is very strange! I wonder if it's one of your meds? Tums sometimes leave a metallic taste in my mouth. It definitely could be dry mouth though.

  • Had anyone else had a migraine in the first trimester? It started with my vision blurring all the sudden when I laid Down for a bit and my left side went all numb/tingling. I got a little worried and couldn't reach my RE so I'm sitting at emergency. I've had mirgraines before but not like this in a long time. Makes me much more nervous being pregnant. They said I'm on the boarder of a fever so not sure what that means.

@JWatt5 I haven't had a pregnancy migraine yet (surprising since I am usually a migraine sufferer) but I have had consistent headaches since I got pregnant. I have absolutely had the numbness/tingling with migraines in the past though (called a sensory aura) and they are normal and not at all dangerous or life threatening. Pregnancy really puts our bodies out of wack! You are totally fine though, don't worry. Always a good idea to get some doctor advice though!

  • Metallic taste is definitely a pregnancy symptom. I haven't had it yet but I've read about it and heard friends who have had it.
  • @tiffanyw1783 i went to the dentist at 10ish weeks pregnant and they said pregnancy can effect your gums and cause issues and bleeding. Could be the cause of the odd taste in your mouth.
  • @wifeinraleigh28- thanks! I've had them too before and I've had a mini stroke when I was young - had routine mri's for a few years (combo of birth control pill & mirgraines). They wanted to do an MRI at Emergency but with the Obgyn's advice I've decided to hold off for now, see if the symptoms resolve on their own, which they should with a migraine. They are worried about circulatory issues due to the pregnancy so I go back in a few days (or hours if it doesn't go away) for at least a CT scan and then go from there just to be sure.

  • @JWatt5 @wifeinraleigh28 I'm a fellow migraine-er but I haven't had that many since pregnancy (they decreased HUGELY after I went off birth control pills and then of course came back when I was on IVF hormones). What I've had is: every few weeks I'll get a 1-2-week headache that sometimes veers into migraine territory. I've never had headaches of this length bc I'd always blast them away with a migraine meds shot.

I'm sure your neurologist or OB can help strategize, but the -triptans are out of the question as far as I know. I've managed with a combination of Tylenol, caffeine, sugar, and sometimes narcotics as needed. Good luck!
  • @cato99 - crazy hormones!! I still have my headache & numbness, hoping the numbness goes with the headache! tomorrows a new day - super happy I have an US for assurance on Thursday!

  • @rmarble23 I am so with you. Everyone keeps asking me how I'm feeling, and the honest answer has universally been "really sh!tty!" But that's not what they want to hear - they want to hear "Great! So excited! Wonderful!" It's been very frustrating to have to constantly put on a happy face when I feel like I'm about to throw up for fall asleep pretty much constantly.

I also wanted to add that I went to a chiropractor yesterday for the first time while pregnant, and WOW I'm so glad I did! I chose one recommended by my OB for their experience working with pregnancies. My aches and pains are definitely less today, and they used really nice gentle techniques to get me back in alignment. Woo hoo!

I've been frustrated with the whole "how are you feeling" from those who know I'm pregnant already and when I say pretty darn good - they then say well if you arent throwing up or always nauseous you better go get checked out, something might be wrong. Thanks people! Totally agree with you @dragonfaerie - I feel like people always reflect on the negative symptoms! If I hear one more person go "oh that's great that you're pregnant - oh but you're due in the summer..." (on top of that, I'm in Canada, seriously people, it's not that hot!)

Or "You don't give your baby a phone to play with? Wait until he's a toddler at a restaurant, and you will be whipping out those electronics like crazy!" Those sorts of comments drive me NUTS! @dragonfaerie Funny you mentioned prenatal chiro/massage! I was just researching a Doula that my friend used. I am not going to pay for full doula services because we are really trying to save cash right now, but she offers an hour long prenatal massage that you can ala carte. I'm totally doing it! Sounds like heaven.

Also, is today "Say Stupid Stuff About Pregnancy" Day? One person on FB posted a dumb link to why they think IVF is murder (that person is a special kind of stupid who probably thinks a woman on her period should be jailed). I don't know her; she was just a rando poster in an infertility group (how did that person even get added?) The other person said they thought pregnancy was ugly (I actually know this person.) Chick, I will cut you. I dare somebody on social media to say one more stupid thing today.#horomones

@babylonghorn16 yes, people always offer their advice. It really irks me when they say wait until.. It's like um if I wanted some advice or an opinion I would've asked for it.
@clt2pwm11 really? wtf is wrong with some people.

  • @wishingforluck have you had your thyroid checked recently ? Hypothyroidism can cause you to lose lots of hair. My pregnancy caused my thyroid to go totally wacko and my meds have had to be readjusted several times. Just throwing that out there as a precautionary!
  • @rmarble23 Right?! I didn't even click. It pissed me off so much.

  • So my partner today confessed that he told his friends about our pregnancy last week but was too scared to tell me!  I'd said that if the NT results were good then I thought we could tell people but then we got the results and I'm still paranoid and holding off! In the interim before I flipflopped he had sent a private Facebook message to his friends!  He fessed up today because we are going to meet up with them after work today so I'd find out they all know!

I couldn't really be annoyed because it was me being crazy and changing my mind every 5 minutes about when to tell people! Also it's pretty cute that he couldn't wait till he saw them and had to send a message!
Guess the cat is coming out of the bag!
  • @Nellin I kept changing my mind about when to tell people too. I didn't even start telling my clients until this week. But it's nice that they know now because my bump is impossible to hide and I've already been called out by a couple teenagers already. Now I don't have to stick to baggy clothing all the time!
