Femara, trigger, and more oh my!

My sonohysterogram at the RE went great today! No polyps, scarring, or fibroids. Dr says that starting next month I'll start femara, then a trigger shot, folllwed by progesterone and heparin. Anyone else have anything like this? I'm new to medicated cycles and what it involves. Anyone else take femara?

Re: Femara, trigger, and more oh my!

  • Congrats on a great test!  I did femara for a couple of my IUI cycles - only side effect I had was I gained two pounds but that was it.  It didn't thin my lining like clomid did.

Trigger shot is scary the first time but I promise it's not bad at all - the needle is tiny.

What kind of progesterone will you be on - oral, suppository, PIO?

Also will you be doing IUI or TI?

Good luck as you start your journey!!

  • @Esperer I'm not sure what kind of progesterone I'll be taking yet. I'm supposed to get a call from the nurse early next week with all the specific details. I've heard suppository isn't the greatest. Also, we'all just be doing TI. All the shots do intimidate me a little. I'm afraid i'll mess them up, especially the HCG shot. I hope in the end it will all be worth it! Thank you!

  • I'm on my second cycle of Femara with a trigger shot + TI & Metformin.

The trigger shot sounds scary but it's not so bad!
The Femara makes me gain little weight and gives me terrible hot flashes, other than that it's okay. It will definitely be worth it if it helps us conceive!
  • Oh yeah I forgot about the hot flashes on femara - I had those too!  I did the progesterone suppositories after my first transfer and switched to PIO after my 2nd.  Personally I prefer the PIO but that's another shot and a larger needle - although still, I promise once you get the first shot done the rest are easy :)

And yes it will all be worth it in the end.  Fingers crossed for you both @carterh33 and @greenange!

  • I just hope we all conceive quickly! I will be on medicated cycles for RPL and don't have a ton of other issues (except for prothrombin factor 2 and hypothyroidism which I take medication for both)  I'm able to get pregnant, I just have a hard time staying pregnant.
  • I did heparin and progesterone in oil. The heparin is easy...tiny needle so you don't feel a thing. Inject slowly because it can sting a little. You will also bruise at the injection site. The progesterone in oil is definitely better than suppositories. The first injection is indimidating, but a piece of cake after that!
