UPDATE *TW* Tell me it will be okay.

I am freaking out right now, guys. I started spotting a few hours ago. It's dark brown. This is the first time that I've experienced this. I called the after hours line and they are going to call me in the morning with a time to come in during the day.

My mind is going 100 miles per hour right now. I've had pulling "pain" (using that term loosely) predominantly on my left side the entire time that I've been pregnant and I am just fearing the worst now even though I know I'm being irrational. I know that dark brown spotting can be okay but all my mind can think of is everything that could be wrong.

Re: UPDATE *TW* Tell me it will be okay.

  • Try  to stay positive. I know you're scared but a little spotting can be perfectly normal.  Thinking positive thoughts for you!

  • Keep your chin up! As @pumpkin0913 said some spotting is normal, and I believe that when it isn't bright red or pink it's even less of a worry. *HUGS*
  • I know exactly how you feel, you can know it's normal but the moment it happens to you the world stops. But It is normal, and brown and pink are the least worrisome. I have spotted and I know others that have even with dark red blood and still had normal and healthy pregnancies. Hang in there :)
  • @spk112

Is it a lot or only when you wipe? Like PP have said brown is usually okay. When I had my spotting it was brown and the nurse said as long as it didn't become red and I wasn't saturating a pad I was okay and they weren't worried. Stay strong and stay positive mama!

  • @SaphireSweetie88 at first it was only when I wiped. A couple hours ago it was a little heavier. Now it's slowing down.
  • @spk112

Sounds like you will be fine (IMO). Sit with your feet up the rest of the night if you can. Don't do anything potentially strenuous.

Keep your head up! Brown spotting is generally perfectly normal for a lot of women. Typically they only get concerned when it is bright red and soaks a pad

  • @spk112 Take it super easy tonight, feet up, drink water, put on a movie to distract yourself and hopefully the spotting stops before you ever make it to your appointment tomorrow.  I had spotting with my first pregnancy and everything ended up great.  It's f***ing terrifying but 'normal' in the first trimester.  FX for you and keep us updated.

  • I know it's hard but try not to worry! I had lots of pink/brown around 4w3d/4w4d and then just this past Sunday I had some brown spotting and maybe pinkish yesterday and the day before and today I saw the doc because I had some other symptoms and it turned out I had a yeast infection. She also did a quick US since I mentioned spotting and the baby was perfect with a strong heartbeat! So the spotting was just from irritation. Try to relax, don't do anything strenuous and hopefully you'll have a great appointment tomorrow. I'll be praying for you! ❤️

  • Take care of yourself, put your feet up, rest, and try to relax. Sounds scary but it also is pretty common to have and then go on to have a very healthy pregnancy and baby.

  • I haven't had any spotting, but I have had bad pain on one side. I actually had an appointment today and the doctor said it was probably a cyst and is super common and nothing to worry about. I would describe it as more of a squeezing pain.
  • I had bleeding (brown and red, not heavy, esp. when I wiped) throughout my first trimester in another pregnancy. Everything was fine. Unless the flow is really heavy (you'll know if it is), you should be ok. Try not to stress and keep us updated!

  • Thanks, ladies. I'm trying to stay calm and take it easy. I've been sitting on the couch all night watching Christmas movies to distract myself.
  • It's so hard but try not to worry.  My SIL had brown and pink spotting for almost her entire pregnancy and delivered a perfectly healthy baby 3 days ago.  Pregnancy is a total mind f@!k because most of the symptoms have an equal chance of meaning nothing or something.
  • i could tell you not to worry but that's not not how us mums are wired! i had dark spotting 2 days ago but everything is fine and i'm sure it is with you as well. i've had some pains above my pelvic bone that turned out to be nothing serious as well. do you have any other symptoms? maybe you have an infection of some sort down there, I had a double infection

try not to think about it too much and keep us updated, lots of love and prayers.
  • @spk112 it's totally normal to worry about spotting but most of the time it's nothing.  Brown spotting is old blood - so it's probably fine if it hasn't turned into bright red bleeding with clots and lots of intense cramping.  I think you did the right thing by calling your doctor's office - see what they say in the morning.  In the meantime, try to stay calm and distract yourself as best you can.  I'm sending lots of positive vibes your way!
  • Is it too early to worry about round ligament pain? Could possibly be rlp that's causing the pain. Take it easy and slow down for a bit.
  • Try to stay calm... I've had brown spotting and bright red spotting and baby has been fine so far!  Prayers for you!

Thanks again for your well wishes, guys. Baby looked perfect on sonogram (and had a heartbeat!) and my doctor couldn't find a source for the bleeding. I'm supposed to take it easy now and I'm on pelvic rest. I'm so relieved.

@spk112 With both pregnancies I spotted and bled, mostly brown. With the first, it was for sure delayed implantation bleeding; I had an early dating scan and the tech noted there was an implantation bleed during the scan. When I had another after the spotting, it was gone. I assume the second pregnancy was the same, but no proof. I never see this mentioned when people ask about spotting, so I wanted to share.

Glad everything looked okay on your scan.
