Betas

There's been a lot of discussion on various threads about what all of our beta counts look like. @SaphireSweetie88 posted a great chart that shows the incredibly massive range that those numbers can fall into while still being normal. I'm curious, simply for curiosity's sake, for those of you who do know your numbers and how far along you are, what do those numbers look like for you? As long as your numbers are rising nicely, then they're good and there's nothing to worry about! I just thought it might be nice to reassure people to see the actual range that exists, from the low end of normal all the way to the super high end.

I had my dating scan today and my betas are sitting somewhere upwards of 37,000 at 6+2.

Re: Betas

  • @ktewart - Thanks for the tag!

I am hoping to get a better idea of how far a long I am in a week at my ultrasound but all 3 of the numbers I got fall nicely in the 5 week range and that's what I am guessing I am / what my ticker says.

At 5 weeks (21 dpo) on 10/31, my beta was 5996. On 10/26 (16dpo), it had been 613.
TBH with some numbers I've been seeing, I'm rather terrified of multiples!

Definitely broader than the other one but thought I'd share. I was 115 last week (4+4) and just had blood taken yesterday (5+2) so we'll see. I might also be slightly off since I have a 30 day cycle and didn't track ovulation.

  • I'm getting my first betas today. I'm 7 weeks.
  • I have a random question related to this. All you ladies getting these tests, are you only getting them because of certain circumstances (past losses, age, etc.)? Or are you low risk, no history of loss and still getting them? Just curious. I am 7+1 and still haven't even seen a doctor at all (which freaks me out). My first appointment is a week from today. I was bummed when my PCP didn't want to see me to confirm the pregnancy and just told me to schedule an OB appointment between 8 and 10 weeks.

  • I'm a fertility patient. My son was conceived after a year with the help of Clomid. This time around, I also was on Clomid, but the doctor thinks my body was doing was it needed to do naturally anyway. The Clomid was precautionary for my peace of mind. But with Clomid comes early monitoring, hence the beta tests and the dating ultrasound. For a low risk, uncomplicated, natural pregnancy, not being seen until 8-10 weeks is standard. Don't stress!  :)

    11/16  4w4d  hcg: 245   prog: pending
  • I've had my betas done three times now - my OB does the first one by request and then I've had two subsequent ones because my progesterone is low (since the third draw, I've started supplements).

    11/4/16: 4w0d (14dpo): HCG: 461, Progesterone: 7.18
    11/8/16: 4w4d (18dpo): HCG: 3136 Progesterone: 6.34
    11/11/16: 5w0d (21dpo): HCG: 12424 Progesterone: 6.91

Hoping the supplements help the progesterone, but feeling great about these HCG numbers!

  • So my betas are kind of weird but I asked the nurse at my RE's office TWICE about them and they said everything is progressing well. I have my first U/S tomorrow to get the real scoop.

    13 dpo - 175
16 dpo (was supposed to wait a week between tests, but had some bad pain so I got in to have that checked and got a bonus beta while there) - 774
    21dpo (5 days later) - 2350.

The last number had me in a panic. The doubling time slowed to 72 hours. My nurse said that after a certain point they level out. She assured me that the Dr reviewed my numbers and didn't say it was bad, and told me not to worry.
I have this sneaking suspicion there may be a vanishing twin. I know for a fact I ovulated two eggs bc they saw two corpus lutem cysts (and my progesterone is almost 60). So maybe that could explain the big rise between day 13 and 16 and then the slow down?? Idk ladies. I am grabbing at straws here but I am trying to make myself feel better about this. I am freaked out for my appointment tomorrow. Hoping for good news but not convinced it's ok.

I understand being in a panic but numbers should double every 48-72 hours so to me your numbers look good! Your nurse is correct that they do level out after a certain point. If they're not worried you shouldn't be - I know easier said than done. How far along are you again?

  • @SaphireSweetie88 I will be 6w tomorrow for my ultrasound. Last pregnancy I went in at 6w3d and heard a heartbeat. I don't know if it will be too early to hear/see that tomorrow or not. It's definitely hard to be optimistic given my previous losses but I have less than 24 hours either way. I was good all week but the closer it gets the more anxious I am. Thanks for your response!!

  • @Rae - I only called my OB/GYN's office when I got my BFP. They originally just  started off by scheduling my appointment for 9 weeks (between 8-10 they said and mine is at 9). Then near the end of the call just asked me to come in for bloodwork. They have a lab in their office so I don't even have an appointment - I just walk in and sign in for the lab and they call me when it gets to me on the list.

My first HCG levels were from, as they said, clearly early in pregnancy so they wanted to check it again (or the do all the time, don't really know) so I did it again yesterday. My HCG came back in the 1,000s (I really should write it down...oh well, it'll show up on the online thing in a few days) for my second (I was 115 Thursday). They did say they couldn't calculate the 48 hour rise but it was okay because I was going up enough in the time I've had and that they'll see me in December.

I wonder if they didn't have the lab in office if it would be very different.

Mine was not a planned pregnancy, and I don't keep great track of my periods, so these are estimated dates:
    16-18dpo, hcg 626
    48 hours later, hcg 1411
    3 days later, hcg 5731
That level was taken during a non-pregnany related ER trip. They did a Transvaginal u/s, gestational sac measured 5w2d, but no yolk sac, etc was seen
  • I am a bit concerned about my numbers being low - although they fall in the "normal" (and very wide) range...

I will have another draw tomorrow to ensure they are still doubling in the anticipated time frame.  The first doubling time was 42 hours - so we shall see tomorrow!  Luckily, the nurse usually calls me w/in the hour of getting the draw to give me the update and schedule the next appointment.

They are happy with the E2 and P4 numbers atm...but I am super worried about the hcg...
