Flu Shots?

Are you all getting one? Have you gotten one before or will this be your first time?

My doctors office didn't mention it, but my nurse practitioner friend said its recommended for all pregnant women. I've never gotten one.

I don't get a flu shot every year, mostly just because I forget or never get around to it. But I will definitely get one this year because the flu can be really dangerous during pregnancy.

ETA Last time I was pregnant I remember being surprised that my OB didn't mention it. When I asked about it, they said definitely get it, but they were out of it so I had to go to a Walgreens clinic for it. I'll do the same this year, since my first appointment isn't for a few weeks.
  • I have to get it every year for work. I actually got mine at the beginning of this last cycle. It's not too bad, my arm was sore for a day or two but that's usually it for me

  • I've read that they are highly recommended for pregnant women. I have to talk to my RE today anyway and plan on asking if it's safe this early if I haven't gotten it yet.

  • I have to get one every year because of work anyways, but definitely because of this little pumpkin inside me. I just have to verify it's OK to have the shot this early on with my PCP.

  • I have to get one at work (I work at a hospital), but I went back in late September before I had my little apple seed inside of me. I did curiously ask though if it was safe to have a shot if I was trying to get pregnant, and they confirmed it was fine. They said it was also safe if I happened to be pregnant, just that they would use a different needle. From what I've read, a flu shot is recommended for pregnant women but I would check with your doc first.

  • I hate needles so so much but I will get one this year for sure. I was able to give myself needles for my IUI so you would think I would be over it by now!

  • @jsweet I also hate needles, and I never get over it.  The struggle is real.

  • I've never gotten one before, but I'm planning on getting one this year since I'll be pregnant during flu season!! I dont normally get sick but I don't want to take any unnecessary risks.
  • Actually got mine before I knew I was pregnant!

  • I get mine every year. If I hadn't gotten mine before my BFP, I would have immediately gone for it.

I used to work obstetrics, and we administered the flu shot to pregnant women of all gestations during flu season. It's definitely better to receive it.

  • I just got mine at 4 weeks.  It's required where I work.  I went to my OBGyn to get it and made sure I was getting one that was preservative-free.

  • I got mine before I was pregnant. Even if I was pregnant, I would have gotten it. DH is a teacher, and we have 2 germ factories for kids!

  • I have already had mine. However, I work in healthcare and get one every year. I had my husband and son get one as well.
  • I'll be getting one at some point, even though the family and I just got the flu over the weekend.
  • I can't due to my autoimmune disease, Lupus, as it triggers a flare which is much worse than the flu. DD and DH will be getting them however.

  • @Cait32 I don't think it matters, it just made me feel better!  If they said it was fine, I'm sure it was.

  • Can I whine for a second? I just got mine, literally 30 minutes ago, and OW! My arm is so sore. I also bled, which I don't normally. The nurse said when she was pregnant and got shot she bled more also. Weird.

  • I've never gotten the flu shot in my adult life... not sure if I'm willing to start now lol
  • @MimoCa I'm the same-- had zero interest and never would have gotten it, but even my natural birthing center midwives said to get it asap so I did yesterday. And I'm making DH get one too just in case...ha!

  • I got mine today. My arm is more sore than it usually is. Because I marked the "pregnant" box on the form, they gave me the version without preservative.
