My DS won't sleep!!

My son is 11 weeks and for the last week hasn't slept more than an hour and a half at a time. Prior to this, he would go to sleep around 10 or 11 and not wake until 2 or 3, sometimes even 4 a.m. But as of late, he will still fall asleep around 10 but then he's up at midnight, 130, 300, etc. As I'm typing this, he fell back asleep at 325 a.m. & woke at exactly 430.

He is EBF so I'm exhausted & have no clue what I'm doing wrong. He always wakes up to nurse so the only thing I can think of is switching to formula so I know he's eating enough. Any advice?!

Re: My DS won't sleep!!

  • My LO is 12 1/2 weeks and doing the same. I think it may be a leap or a growth spurt. She is also EBF and I am exhausted! Can you try pumping and have your SO give him a bottle in the middle of the night? It will get you some rest and also give you peace of mind that he is getting enough if you know he got a 4oz bottle.

Hang in there and don't give up BFing if you don't want to! The only way to make what he needs is to keep nursing and/or pumping! :)

  • I don't thing it's a hunger issue.  Maybe nursing for comfort to go back to sleep.  Sleep cycles could be off and he is having trouble going into deep sleep on his own.  We had that issue with naps forever and only recently has he been able to go an hour or more during naps.

  • 11 weeks is when we started having sleep regression. Lasted a couple weeks. Hang in there!! And I second pumping a bottle and having your SO help you out.

  • We also had sleep regression around 11.5 weeks. It only lasted a few days, though, so hold on there!

  • Also had sleep regression around 12 weeks. Of course right before I had to go back to work. Honestly I started bringing him into my bed with me. I know not everyone is cool with bed sharing but that worked for me.

I wasn't cool with bed sharing until I had a baby that wouldn't sleep :p Now I refuse to judge moms!

Ditto!!  Bought a cosleeper nest thing for our upcoming vacation.  Cannot picture lugging the pack n play!  Bringing him into bed with me in the morning generally buys me another hour.
  • Last night we co-slept & I've done that in the past but I don't see a change in his sleep habits. His c rib is in our room anyway so all it changes is I don't have to stand up to get to him. So I had my husband take the first feeding tonight.. he drank about an ounce from the bottle then wanted nothing to do with it but took my breast fine. Guess it's no sleep for this momma.

Y'all are scaring me with a sleep regression at 11-12 weeks. I'm trying to mentally prepare for the 4 month sleep regression now and I'm not prepared for one before that! Lol. LO is 11.5 weeks now and I go back to work on Monday.
