Bloody injury and longer nap question:

DD cut her toe today while I was cleaning on the trigger of a  lysol cleaner bottle (don't ask me how she did this) .  I really couldn't tell how bad the cut was because of the extreme kicking and blood.  I gave her 2 bandaids, then put a bigger one over he two and put her sock back on. She started bleeding through the sock. I did the same thing again.

I took off bandaids at lunch (about an hour later) because those were bled through and just a little blood on the sock-but I'm not really sure if she was still bleeding, or it was just a little bit on the socks from right after I put the other bandaids on because the socks were dk  purple and I didn't see it.

So, I tried to wipe her feet off.  She was kicking like crazy as I was doing this and I noticed that she was bleeding.  I don't know if she was still bleeding from an hour ago, or she just irritated the skin by kicking with the washcloth on it.

Anyway, She has been asleep now for an hour and a half!  Which is TOTALLY not like her.  I usually get 45 min-1 hr out of her.  1 hr 15 if it is a Christmas Miracle.

Should I be worried that she is sleeping so long, or since I put her down a little later and she was hysterically crying for a good time she is just overly tired?

  • Did she cry a lot? That usually get them pretty tired.

  • I'm just not sure of how much a child should bleed before you start to get worried.  I think she bled a lot, but I don't know if that is because this is the first time she has bled.

  • Is it deep? I mean usually it will only keep bleeding if it needs stitches. I think she's ok, I think she's overtired from all the crying.

  • I'm no medical professional, but I am fairly confident the fact it is the 1st time your child has bled becasue of a wound, versus the 3rd or 10th) would have no correlation to the amount of blood that comes out.
  • She was tired out because of being hysterical...poor little thing.  Hope her bleeding has stopped and it doesn't need stitched.
