Bringing Baby Home - the childbirth class no one tells you to take

The greatest gift you can give your child is a strong relationship between you and your partner.
– John Gottman, Ph.D

Did you know 1 in 4 couples divorce in the first 5 years after the birth of their first child, and two thirds of new parents report a dramatic decline in relationship satisfaction? Even the strongest relationships are strained during the transition to parenthood. Lack of sleep, never-ending housework and new financial concerns can lead to profound stress and an increase in conflict, disappointment and hurt feelings – all of which affect baby’s care.

In addition to prepping baby's nursery and getting educated for labor and delivery, remember to invest now in your relationship. Through the Bringing Baby Home workshop, couples can learn the practical skills needed to encourage healthy, supportive family relationships while decreasing postpartum depression, relationship conflict and hostility. The workshop is based on the research of Drs. John and Julie Gottman and facilitated by a Gottman Institute educator trained in marriage and family therapy.

The next two-day intensive workshop will be October 1, 2016 (6:30 p.m. - 10 p.m.) to October 2, 2016 (8 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.) at Carriage House Birth in Brooklyn. The cost is $300/couple and includes your workbook and materials as well as snacks. Please visit lifeplan.nyc/bringingbabyhome to learn more about registration or contact me at chanel@lifeplan.nyc. A limited number of 'bump' family discounts are available.
