My husband and I just watched Blackout on Netflix and it got me thinking about emergency situations. For those who haven't seen the movie its about when England lost their power for a week and everyone was just trying to survive. Do you think you are prepared enough to evacuate at a moments notice? I used to feel prepared but don't anymore. I'd love to hear what you all think!!

uh, QFP...I guess. I also don't understand the question. Surely it couldn't have been meant for TTGP, right? This place has been bananas these last two days.
joined in 2015 and this is the first post, which is kind of weird but I'll bite - I keep an emergency kit in my car that will last just me 3 days. I am underprepared as per the provincial recommendations
H and I have discussed this before and we are pretty sure we would die. We have no survival skills.

I'm not super prepared. My husband keeps a bag packed with emergency stuff, but we would need to throw some canned food in there. The bag is what we toss in the tornado shelter when weather gets crazy. It's got flashlights, batteries, a radio, first aid kit, and I don't know what else. We live in Oklahoma, so we get tornado scares often in spring and fall.

I don't think so....looks like the only other posts are about selling scentsy...I "smell" someone trying to sell something....
her next post on this thread will be how everyone should buy scentsy candles in order to make sure they are ready for the blackout!!!!! They provide light and make everything smell good!!!

My brothers and my husband all have this hobby, for lack of a better word, where they like to come up with apocalypse scenarios and plan how to survive. Ya know, it's just fun for them. I guess it's their version of playing "if someone gave you 5 million dollars how would you spend it?" type thing. But as an extension of that they all spend a lot of time learning different survival skills. So basically if an apocalypse happens they'll probably be fine. My older brother is even working on setting up a self-sustaining farm because, why not.

My brother is obsessed as well! He loves firearms and leads a super low maintenance life. One day I asked him if an apocolypse happened, could I join with him and have his protection He told me that I wear contacts, have asthma, and in general provide him with no usable talents.....so I probably wouldn't be of much use and wouldn't make it very long...

Ouch! That's pretty harsh, but I suppose it is practical. Maybe I better brush up on my talents so people keep me around. I wear contacts, but I'm a hard worker. I don't run very fast, but I can climb well. I'm willing to farm and work the land. I learn fast, and I'm very good at thinking outside the box. This is all what I'll list on my apocalypse resume. I'll pass it out to the survivors.
During Sandy I went 11 days without power, heat, the whole thing. However the Atlanta Bread in town had power so I would go there to get warm and read for hours with the rest of the powerless refugees in my town. So I guess that probably negates everything. I did make a fire on my own, without burning any of the hair off my body. So there's that....
@berg During Hurricane Andrew back in the early 90s, my family went for weeks without power/water/access to roadways (and missing half of a roof no less). I was little at the time but it was miserable, so when Hurricane Wilma hit us in 2005 and we lost power/water again, we were pretty distraught that we could be in for another week or two of hell. Fortunately a little Mexican restaurant by our house had a generator and we literally spent so much of our days there, along with the rest of the neighborhood. Your Atlanta Bread story made me think of that. Survival skills be damned, I'd much rather take the hot meal/air conditioning (or in your case, heat) any day.
@doxiemoxie212 Girl, me too. Me too. Since I'm a prepper for natural disasters (not the serious WTSHTF kind, cause, lawd I would die fast.) this post sent me down the rabbit hold of "alcohol stores for preppers". All the while I was like....

I have accepted that if things are so bad that I need to have done extreme emergency preparedness, I don't want to be alive to deal with the fall out.
With that said, I have 3 apple juice boxes, 2 granolas bars, a blanket and a candle with matches in my car. Food is mostly for my low blood sugar and the candle/blankets are because my mom thought it was randomly a good idea if I got caught in a snow storm (thanks Oprah). I guess I will see how long I last...

You're right, I'm clearly in a state of unpreparedness. Plus I don't even have any emergency cheese.
I'm a disgrace.
