Me and my husband met online playing World of Warcraft, I am sure there are some others on here who play too. I joined his guild and then we hit it off instantly and we would talk a lot and after about a month he said he would like to come visit me.
He lived in Toronto and I in Montreal so he made the drive for the weekend and we spent all of it together! It was really nice, we went out to eat at some of my favorite places and we got ice cream and some drinks, we went for walks in the nice parks... the whole weekend was a big date, it was really magical, no man had ever treated me so nicely. We got surprised by rain once and we were soaked like we jumped in a lake xD
As for the proposal, it was not planned at all and it was actually me that asked him. It was six months later and we were out to dinner and I just said "Do you want to spend the rest of your life with me?" And he said yes so I asked if he wanted to marry me and he said yes too

We met at the hospital when a mutual friend had a baby. It's the hospital we are delivering at
I couldn't remember his name for the life of me. It took like 2 months for me to know his name lol. We started dating after we went to a party and just hit it off
it was probably like a year into it that I knew he was "the one"
When I was really sick and in the hospital all the time he was so great to me. He never ever made me feel like a burden. And even when they told me I would never have children he stood by me, I told him that he could walk away and I would understand but he didn't.
He is so amazing and I really can't say enough about him. We are so so happy that we have been blessed with this baby.
Ours is a funny story...I think.
I broke up with someone I thought I loved on a Thursday. By Sunday I needed to prove to myself I was datable and joined a dating site. This guy messaged me. I had no interest in him, he was 32 and a full time student. I was working full time, going to school part time etc. I wanted a man with a "real job."
I agreed to go on a date with him, and he proposes driving four hours each way to Pennsylvania to the Ren Faire. So now, jobless guy offers to take me on a very creepy first date...
We found out we had a few mutual friends, and I made each of them write him a letter of recommendation. After the all vouched he was not going to do something illegal, I agreed to go.
I really liked him...a lot. He really liked me. However I still had this hang up about his school/job situation and he didn't want to date a Jersey girl because he was planning to move to CA after graduation.
So he broke up with me. Then a month later, I texted him some important personal news and we started talking. Then my parents left for Israel for a few weeks, as hurricane sandy was approaching. I live near them and had to save their basement. He agreed to move in with me for a week and he did help.
Then things sort of fizzled. I think we had too much too soon of each other.
Right before Christmas, I had a horrible allergic reaction to a migraine med. My parents did not want to help me. I was so sick. He drove up to my house and sat with me. He took me to the ER. He stayed with me for a week. Then, he went home for a night to write a paper and I fell asleep and didn't answer my phone. He called the police to do a well check to make sure I was okay.
We have been inseparable ever since. He moved in a couple of months later. A year after that, he told me he wanted to propose but couldn't because he had just gotten a job and couldn't afford a ring. I mentioned that to my aunt, who said "well you can reset your grandmother's." He took the ring and designed my dream engagement ring. He actually officially proposed while we were looking for venues.
Proposal: I studied abroad for a semester, and he came to visit for my last week. We hadn't been together quite 2 years. He had always been firm that he needed to be with a girl at least 2 years before proposing, and told me multiple times while I was gone that he wasn't even close to ready. He came, we took the bus to the beach, and as soon as we dropped our bags he wanted to walk to the beach. As soon as we hit the sand he proposed. I have no idea what he said because I thought it must be a joke. Even when he opened the box I thought it was fake, until he asked and waited. I had 2 meltdowns over the next week because I didn't understand how he could all of a sudden be ready. He had to explain multiple times that he was just trying to throw me off so it would be a surprise.
I met my husband in middle school. We lived on the same street and rode the school bus together. I always liked him but he had a really controlling girlfriend and we basically never talked although we were always around each other. He even used to come to my house just to sit in my yard with me - we were too shy to even talk then!
Fast forward to highschool- he was with the same girl and wasn't "allowed" to talk to me but when they broke up (they did this a lot) he decided to start walking me to classes and calling me. I was super annoyed at the time because I knew they would get right back together. He swore it wasn't so and one evening after school came by my house with his best friend who was a total creep and they had bet each other that the other would kiss me before they left. (His friend bet him because he knew my husband wouldn't let him near me.)
It was so cliche but it was the nicest kiss ever, he held my 15 year old face with both of his hands, he was 16. I requested this same style kiss for our wedding.
I kind of also pressured him into the engagement because his uncle told me he had bought a ring and had been holding onto it for like 6 months and I have a big fat mouth.
The engagement was beautiful though, once it finally happened. It was at the fountains where we live, just after thanksgiving when they had put up all of the Christmas decorations..
ETA: He periodically gave me promise rings over the 6 years we dated. One of which was from a gumball machine- that was the first when I was in tenth grade and the last is one I still wear every know & again. I always knew I wanted to marry him and have his children but I was definitely in the mindset of now, now, now- which scared the life out of him.
We met online & I knew I wanted to be his wife because he is genuinely one of the kindest men I've ever met. He proposed over a fancy homemade dinner just a few weeks after we'd moved into our new house. I was so happy I lost my appetite (a first for me) & we had to put the filet mignon in the fridge to enjoy the next day.
A few months later I moved back home (I went to grad school out of state). DH followed me back here, despite not knowing anyone and leaving all of his friends behind. I knew then he was THE ONE.
Our proposal is pretty awesome actually. He worked for a newspaper at the time and in some rare freak occurrence, hundreds of thousands of starfish washed up on the shore of our local beach. He said he wanted to go out and get the story and asked if I wanted to go (knowing I would want to). I said yes, so he picked me up from work and we went straight there. While on the beach we had split up and walked around. He called me over to see a huge starfish that he found and when I picked it up, the ring was underneath. We were married 18 months later.
So DH and I met while we were still in high school through our Air Force recruiter. Our towns were about 45 minutes apart and we met at one of our monthly meetings. Nothing ever came of it at the time, just simple small talk and I actually saw him off to basic training due to him leaving on a 6 hour notice and me already being there finishing up my own paperwork to leave the following week. I gave him a hug and wished him luck. Low and behold, 2 weeks later we run into each other on the track during basic training and exchanged a quick hello. There was a squadron wide physical fitness competition and we spent the whole thing just talking. He graduated as did I and went our separate ways. This was in June/July. Fast forward to December and we are both home on leave... he asked me to go bowling and I turned him down because at the time I had a boyfriend. Fast forward to the following spring where he ended up moving to Italy and I to San Antonio, TX. I sent him a random e-mail asking how life was going and if he was enjoying Italy and gave him my number in case he ever just wanted to chat and catch up. He called me literally 5 minutes later! I couldn't even really talk because I was at work and felt so bad but he called me later that evening and we talked for hours and continued to do so over the next month and a half. He asked me out May 1st and I had booked a flight to go see him in Italy and to have our first official date over the 4th of July. He and another couple he was good friends with double dated to one of my favorite restaurants in the area where he introduced me to wine and amazing food. We followed it up with the base 4th of July Celebration. He ended up proposing to me before the week was even over after a trip to the beach. I knew it was coming since we had talked about getting married but it didn't take anything away from it. Best week of my life!
We got married in October the same year at the age of 19 and have been happily married for the last 7 1/2 years. He truly is my best friend and I couldn't imagine anyone better ever walking into my life and tagging along with me on this journey.
I was in a bad loveless marriage (and married under a year). DH started working for the same company and we had this free happy hour at work and he went. We ended talking about books and science fiction for about an hour. My ex-husband used to make fun of me for liking Sci-fi/fantasy. I knew right then that this was not life I wanted to live and needed to be free. I didn't see or talk to him (DH) again for months. In the meantime I left my old life behind and couldn't stop thinking about the random guy I had a conversion with months ago. I met him again at a party and the rest as they say is history. He was the only person I have ever been with that I felt like it was love at first sight and I pretty much knew from day 1 he was the only one for me.
We kind of went slow the first year. at 1.5 years we talked about getting married and just kind of agreed on it and went and picked a ring. Neither of us wanted a real wedding so we 'eloped' 2 months after getting engaged. We got married in a bookstore with just me, him an officiant and a photographer. It was magical!!!

So my ex bf is going crazy and being so annoying and keeps saying he can't understand why we can't be friends. We had a trip planned to go to the lake and float the river with our friends that were mutual friends of H's before we broke up, and he kept begging me to
still go, as friends, because he thought we would get back together. I really wanted to go, and since he promised to not be weird, I agreed to go. Well, guess who also came! Future husband! We hit it off right away and had so much fun on that trip. We rode in a canoe together and it kept flipping over, so we ended up getting way behind everyone else and just talking and getting to know eachother. My ex was piiiiissed. He was so, so mad. But we had been broken up for months, and he wasn't friends with H so I didn't see anything wrong with it.

Proposal: the following Summer, after the year of long distance, we spent a lot of time at one of the city parks just hanging out. One day in August we were at my parents house planning on going to the park. I was in the bathroom doing my hair and was apparently taking too long. It also started raining. He ended up getting impatient and proposing to me right outside my parents bathroom in the hallway. 3 years later we got married and tomorrow is our 4 year wedding anniversary

MY DH and I met through work actually. I used to live in Canada and we both worked for the same company. His existing position was being dropped due to cutting numbers in his actual job, but they wanted to keep him on so they found a position for him in my division of the company. He came to my location for training for a week. Nothing actually happened while he was there, but the girls I worked with swore he liked me. He did come out with us one night to do some shopping for the work kids Christmas party we were throwing. We needed a guys input for boys gifts.
He proposed to me after checking in to our favorite condo in st.maarten. We were looking out onto the ocean and he said he had a surprise for me and to close my eyes. When he said I could reopen them, his voice came from lower and when I opened them he was on one knee. I can't even really remember every word he said, but it was such a special moment. So we got to enjoy 7 days in paradise engaged without anyone else knowing. It was wonderful!! since we lived in different countries we had some time between the engagement and me moving there and before our wedding. My work was kind enough to transfer me down to work at his location so I could keep my job. My work can be done from anywhere really. So that all went through. We lived together for a year before getting married so we could save money and get used to living together etc.
He is honestly my everything. I can't say enough good things about him. He's so positive and caring. He is smart and very funny. He's got all of the best qualities and I'm so lucky and thankful our paths in life crossed. He's definitely my one and only.

I met my DH at a summer camp, we were camp counselors together in college. I went into the job hoping to connect with a guy, but that didn't happen and instead I ended up with 5 of the best girlfriends ever and a few guy friends. One of the guy friends and I stayed in touch after the summer was over, and after months and months of talking long distance we started dating. That was 11 years ago, and we've been married for 5.
We did not have the love at first sight chemistry at all, especially that first summer. We both had a lot of growing up to do when we met and I think we kind of "grew up" into people that we wanted to be and be with while dating.
How did you initially meet?: We met through mutual friends back in 2003. I was dating someone else at the time, and worked at a bookstore. My friend Jennifer invited me to hang out with her usual Friday/Saturday night crew. They usually went to Applebee's, and went bowling afterward. I was 19. I started hanging out and after the 2nd or 3rd time, Josh (my husband) and I hit it off and became best friends. It was partially his doing that made me realize what a jerk my ex was—he made me see what I was missing. Nothing happened between us until the ex & I had broken up, but being treated better by a friend than by my boyfriend was eye-opening.
How did you know he was the right guy to go through this journey with?: I can't really explain it. After I broke up with my boyfriend, I wasn't really ready to date... But I knew that if things progressed to romance between me & Josh, it would be something special. Once we started dating, it was just kind of this unspoken understanding that we would end up married. We were two of a kind—everyone saw it.
What was your first date?: Our first official date was at a local restaurant called Big River Grille. We ate, then went to a local production of "Bye Bye Birdie" that was put on by some kids that were part of a prestigious group of young performers.
How did he/you propose?: I had moved from Chattanooga back to Illinois, thinking that's where I wanted to be. He had to stay behind for a while. The first time he came to visit me, I picked him up from the airport and brought him to my apartment. We were sitting on the couch and he said, "Oh, I have something for you!" we went into my room and he got down on the floor to open his suitcase. He pulled out a Build-A-Bear (I was super into them at the time for some reason), dressed up in a tux. I smiled and figured it was something for me to cuddle at night after he had to go back to Chattanooga, but he told me to press its paw. I did, and his voice came out of the bear saying: "I love you, Natalie. *pause* Will you marry me?"
When I looked down at him, he was on one knee with a ring. I told him of course I would, threw the bear down, and hugged him. He was shaking. We got married September 25th, 2005.

I was bartending at the time and DH used to come in on Wednesday nights with some buddies - they would never sit in my section, but apparently I dropped food off at their table a few times (I don't recall this at all). One of DH's friends had a crush on the other bartender and asked DH if he was interested in her too. DH said "she isn't my type, but she is" and pointed to me. I wasn't told about this until after we were dating. Fast forward, DH's buddy starts to date the other bartender and the two of them keep trying to det me up to go on a blind date with DH which I kept refusing. Finally one day he happened to be over at my friend's house at the same time I was and I was immediately interested. Once I found out he was the one they had tried to set me up with, I made a point to try to come to any social gatherings we were both invited to. 30 days later he asked me out and our first date ended up being an impromptu dinner at stake n shake after my 2 am closing shift.
I knew he was the one when I had my first (and only) grand mal seizure. I was sleeping and he was coming back to my apartment to crash after dropping some friends off at the airport (we didn't live together until after we were engaged). I started seizing, threw up and peed in the bed and was unresponsive for a minute or two. When I woke up my short term memory was temporarily affected and I kept asking the same questions over and over as he drove me to the hospital. He was very calm and comforting the whole time and his response to high stress situations really impressed me. Also, when you can soil the bed and be covered in puke and still have someone love you and hug you, that counts for something in my book.
He proposed almost 2 years after we started dating. He took me on a yatch dinner cruise and we stayed at a fancy hotel. Then we drove out to meet our familes the next day. Similar to @drmh22 he kept telling me not to expect a proposal, he wasn't ready yet etc so I was shocked when he dropped to one knee and kinda thought he was joking. I will admit that right after we got engaged I definitely had some feelings of "holy cow, am I making the right decision?", mostly because I was very young still (21), but our relationship has only continued to get better ever since we got engaged, then married and then had DS. He's my best friend and I feel so lucky to have him as a father to my kids.

It was my freshman year in college, and one of the first weekends I was at a party with my roommate and saw this guy with the reddest hair I've ever seen, and I couldnt help but think he looked just like Prince Harry. I had a boyfriend and he had a girlfriend and nothing happened for a long time, but I always had this crush on him. Over the years, we had a few brief conversations but nothing noteworthy.
We didnt start dating until after he graduated and had come back one weekend to visit friends that were still in school. We were finally both single, and ended up at the same party. I'm not too proud to admit I threw myself at him that night (I was a wild child then, leaving that part out of the story I tell our son). At this point he lived about two hours away and we made plans to see each other at Christmas, which is when we started dating.
The proposal happened about a year and change after we started dating. Our birthdays are only two days apart so he started planning a joint "birthday party" that everyone knew was an engagement party but me (I actually knew because the silly goose left the receipt and paperwork for the ring laying around his apartment when I came to visit). After everyone sang happy birthday he came in with a heart shaped cake that said "will you marry me?" And had the ring in it. Over the top, but perfect nonetheless.
I've never met anyone who is more kind hearted and caring and hard working than my DH. We spend so much time laughing together and I couldn't imagine my life any other way.
I'm not sure when I knew for sure that he was "the one". I don't believe in love at first sight, but I was drawn to him the first time I met him. He hardly talked to me (or anyone), but there was always something special about him that kept him in the back of my mind as a potential mate. It didn't take long after we started dating before we started talking marriage-- maybe 6 months.
First date was a movie and dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings. Nothing special, but it didn't really have to be.
He proposed to me on my 26th birthday at the zoo. The zoo we were at has a sea lion show. Towards the end of the show, the announcer had one of the sea lions come up to her and "whisper in her ear". Then she said, "You've got a secret?" to the seal and asked if I was in the audience. When I raised my hand, she said there was someone who wanted to ask me something. Then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. No extra fancy words, but it was still so sweet and special. (Also, I'm going to admit to having to copy and paste this story off of FB. It's been almost 6 years, and the finer details about the sea lion show were hazy.)

My husband and I met on Match.com after one of my girlfriends convinced me it was fun to go out to dinner and meet someone with no real expectations. I had just came out of a long term on again off again relationship and was bored one night so I signed up for some free entertainment. Lo and behold I was checking out one of H's pics and accidentally liked it. I was mortified but you can't unlike a picture on there once you've done it. So, I get an email from him that day or the next and I can't admit that I didn't mean to like his picture. We end up going on a few dates and I find out that he recently ended an engagement and we hit it off. I'm actually pretty crazy about him at this point and we have a weekend planned for me to come spend the weekend for the first time (he lived 2+ hours away) when I finally go to the doctor because I just hadn't been feeling like myself. Guys, I found out I was pregnant with my on again off again ex's baby! I was devastated and had to tell him the weekend was off bc I'm pregnant. We parted ways amicably and would occasionally chat over FB but he was definitely seeing other people. (My ex told me to get an abortion and I've not heard from him since). After a few weeks he tells me that he knows it's crazy but he just "doesn't feel about anyone else the way he feels about me" and "can we just see where it goes..." I said that if he wanted to date a fat, pregnant, hormanal, divorced, mom of two then we could certainly try. Long story short, we continued to date and we ended up getting married right before the baby was born. He legally adopted the baby and cried when he was born. It was very surreal but absolutely the right choice for us. Not to mention that my new MIL had given up her first child for adoption back in the 70s and I had unknowingly decided to name the baby the same name that her baby ended up with leading DH's family to believe it was destined to happen.
Oh, I should also mention that our son looks exactly like him and we have several friends that think we made the whole thing up to hide the fact that he cheated on his ex (something he would never have done). She even contacted me at some point to tell me this. Pretty crazy I tell ya
I never really questioned whether or not he was the one...so I guess that's how I knew? We moved in together in 2006, bought a house and a dog in 2009. Always talked about getting married during these years - but between money/house repairs and such, it didn't happen. Though, I knew it would...eventually at some point. I had a period where I got really antsy and frustrated with the whole situation, but that passed. Finally when I was finishing up grad school (2013/2014), I basically told him we're getting married when I graduated. He was cool with that...
School finished up in Jan 2014 - so immediately I got to planning, and decided to get hitched on our anniversary in 2014 (because neither of us can remember the actual date, we figured this could help!) - which was in June. We had the venue booked and the save the dates ready by the middle of Feb - but he kept telling me I needed a ring. I told him I was fine with just a wedding band (that I had already purchased back in January, mind you...), but he insisted for me to wait to send the save the dates for just a little while longer. In the beginning of March we decided to go for a hike with the dog. It had snowed recently, so it was a bit tough walking up hills, and he needed a "break" when we got to the top of a particularly steep one. I turned around to see him on one knee with the ring out.

I knew he was The One pretty much from day one. I know that sounds silly, and I'm the last person on earth to believe in love at first sight or anything like it, but honestly I never had a connection with anyone else like I have with him. He was one of my best friends first and he's still my best friend now. Our marriage is pretty much perfect. When we fight or argue, we always resolve it like adults, and nothing festers or sits too long because neither of us can stand letting things go unsaid or unfinished. We just... work really well together and always have. (I don't think it's the honeymoon period talking either. We've been friends for years now and we're not naive. Honestly we're both constantly surprised at how good everything is, because we both had terrible experiences in the past, and we're surrounded by unhappy couples who keep telling us it only gets worse. Lol.)
I don't know what our first date was. He thinks it was the very first time we ever had a meal together alone, but that was a very, very long time before we moved into relationship territory. Like it wasn't on either of our minds at that point. (Well, maybe my mind. I had a giant crush on him from day one, like I said, but I NEVER acted on it until he made the first move.) I think our first date was after we agreed to try a relationship. I drove about 500 miles to visit him (military) and we spent a week together.
He proposed exactly the way we both wanted. I didn't want anything fancy, period. I told him to literally get me a ring pop. He wanted a more traditional proposal and traditional ring, but I told him I absolutely didn't want a diamond. I gave him an alternate stone instead. When he did the proposal, we were in his room getting ready to go out to dinner. I wasn't expecting it, so when he handed me a ring pop I just kind of laughed. I tried to open it but it was stuck, so I tore it open with my teeth... and an engagement band flew out and across the room. We both lost it, he grabbed it and did the knee thing, I said yes (duh) and then he came back with the engagement ring box and opened it all cheesily and the actual ring pop was inside of the box. It was fun, and absolutely perfect.
The engagement is actually a funny story. I went to his apartment one evening to hang out, and he tried to break up with me. I burst into tears and we had this long discussion about how I knew he loved me, but he didn't want to risk breaking my heart. After a long discussion/argument about whether he loved me or not, he finally just said, "fine, will you marry me?" Of course I said yes, and the rest is history. We've been married for 8 1/2 years and he still loves me.
My husband and my older brother went to high school together. I always thought he was really cute but he's about 8 years older than me so I figured he just viewed me as my brother's little sister, haha! Eventually we were both single and he asked my brother if it would be okay to ask me on a date.
For our first date he took me to our main branch library for a short film series and we went out for Lebanese food afterward. My hubby is a first generation American from Lebanon and I thought it was cool that he wanted to take me out for authentic food.
Fast forward 2 years, I'm laying in our bed on a Sunday morning and he walks in the room with a tray full of roses, breakfast, coffee, and...an engagement ring haha! Got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Then we celebrated with mimosas! Almost 5 years later here we are!

First date: since he is a cook, he invited me over and cooked me steak. It makes me laugh to think of the scene of our date. He dragged a crappy table into his living room (he didn't have a dining room table) and put some crappy little table cloth on it, and we sat on fold out card table chairs. It didn't even phase me because that was the stage we were both at in life, but it just reminds me of where we both came from. Sometimes I forget.
He proposed about 11 months into our relationship. When I got home from work, he asked me to come upstairs. We sat on the bed and he started reading me this note (3 pages!) explaining how much he loved me, etc. I started to realize near the end he was going to propose. He pulled the ring out from under the covers and I was crying so much I couldn't even see the ring. DH actually has a blog so he wrote about our engagement. Heres a snippet: "We grew closer and talked more of the future, about kids and family, and what we wanted, and what we wanted with each other. We kind of agreed that we'd eventually be married, and eventually start a family, but it was three-quarters serious, and no real time line was set in stone, and things are easy to talk about when they're not real. We had jokingly looked at rings back in the summer, and even got her finger sized, so I made a mental note, and started saving a big chunk of cash from every pay cheque I got from then until now. I knew that I wanted to marry her, because I could imagine her having my children, because I could imagine being with her for the rest of my life, and I had never felt that before about anyone or anything."
We got married where we met and still worked at the time of our wedding. Here we are in the kitchen:
