Re: Randoms - Week of July 25th

  • Good morning! Hope everyone had a lovely weekend. I'm hoping you ladies can provide some advice as I found myself in a situation this weekend that I'm all too familiar with. So this weekend we told a few of our friends that we're expecting. The reaction was very positive, but one of our friends was visibly upset by the news. Both she and her husband congratulated us, but I could tell it was bothering her. At one point my husband had a few minutes alone with her and asked if she was ok. She said yes, but said that she and her husband have been trying to conceive for 2+ years and were struggling. DH told her he understood the struggle and she can come and talk to us about it since it wasn't easy for us as well. That was the extent of their exchange. He told me this when we were home alone and it's been bothering me since. I know exactly how she feels since I've been there sooo many times when others made pregnancy announcements. I felt terrible for being the one to hurt someone's feelings now. I want to offer her support, but I don't know how to approach this situation since she didn't come to me and DH told her I'll be happy to talk to her if she wishes. We're not as close with them so I don't know how she would feel about me speaking up first. Do I wait for her to make the first move? What would you do?

  • @Tulips29 I'm sorry you find yourself on the other end of this kind of situation now. I think you would be okay to just shoot her a text and be like "Hey, just wanted you to know I'm here for you" or something like that, but then leave it to her to actually come talk to you if she wants. Some people are so private that she may not want to talk to anyone, but knowing someone who has been through it all can be a comfort.

  • I agree with the above. A little message saying that you there if she needs/ feels like talking to someone who understands and then leave it at that. Sometimes, even though your husband said she could contact you, it's easier to contact when it comes straight from the source.

  • Does anyone have trouble with there stomac muscles?
Im only 24 weeks, but sitting up from laying down is not easy, slightly painful, but mostly uncomfortable. Even moving when laying down..instead of rolling to next spot, turning around in same stop, takes a lot of energy and is again slightly painful but mostly uncomfortable.
I see my midwife on Thursday so I'll ask if it's normal this early, but maybe others can relate?

  • @tvh1982 I have already noticed that I get strained really easily. This morning I was trying to stretch to turn off my alarm and it ached for a little bit after. I will wake up to roll over in the middle of the night and almost have to sit completely up to turn around because it hurts to flop the way I used to.  I can't believe how many "symptoms" start earlier than I ever expected!

  • Thank you ladies for the advice, I missed your posts yesterday.

@tvh1982 It's already getting a bit uncomfortable for me and I'm only at 14 weeks. Maybe because I have the extra weight on me, but rolling over at night isn't as easy. We also have a cushiony, deep recliner that I lounge in. Yesterday pushing out of it took some extra effort. I also feel super uncomfortable after I eat, my stomach feels like it's pushing out and I'm out of breath.

  • Nice to know it's not just me. I asked a friend and she was like 'what? Already?'
So I thought I just had an off day.
But notice now that it wasn't an off day!

So true about so many symptoms so early @dragonfaerie.. I wasn't prepared for some.

The eating part I have too @tulips29, now I finally start eating a little bit of dinner I'm quite uncomfortable after..guess I should eat smaller portions.

  • @tvh1982 even the small portions make me stuffed quickly. I just had a soup and toast for lunch and now can't breath. The other day I had dinner with my parents and even my mom noticed I ate way less than I normally would, but I just couldn't take another bite. It's so strange. Dinners are almost never appealing either.

@mskeenan sorry about your heat rash. I actually have it on my face and arms. I usually just let it resolve on its own, but mine doesn't burn.

How do you ladies feel about buying baby things off craigslist (i.e. baby swing or pack n play)?

  • @WishingforLuck I think for items like toys secondhand is okay, but I would never buy a stroller or car seat used. As long as they are clean and come from a smoke-free home, I'm cool with most used items.

@dragonfaerie this also happens to me, getting weepy with baby stuff. There was a commercial with a baby in it the other day and it totally made me cry!

If I'm 24 weeks next week will that be six months ? Technically that would make a 36 week pregnant person 9 months already . I don't know why I'm confused about this lol

  • So last week I posted about not feeling my little one move, it had gone a day and the next day still nothing.
You ladies gave me great tips and I got a move of a butt (or head) that evening.

Today I spoke with my midwife, and she showed me how I can 'hold' my uterus as I do not feel kicks up high. She felt a kick when checking me, which I did not feel.
She also told me, that if I again would not feel my little one a whole day, and tried to hold my uterus, tried a cold sugary drink or eat something and nothing happens not to go to bed but call the women's clinic, as I am too far along not to feel anything for a whole day. And as the baby could live outside the womb, risks should not be taken. She said better to go ones to many then not going.

  • Why don't you sleep on your stomach without one @mskeenan? Or don't you find that comfortable.
I still sleep on my belly, it's the best ever way to sleep, and my little one lets me )even though we have a little kicking session when I lay down.
But hey, if you think that works! Just make sure it's steady on the bed and you don't mind the noise of the plastic :)

  • @tulips29 it does look like a pool float !! Haha

@tvh1982 I have been trying to but my little dude kicks a ton when I lay on my stomach . He does most of his kicking at night .  He may do it though even with this thing though , haha. My husband said the same thing - he was all for me getting it but concerned about me falling off of it (I'm rather clumsy these days ) or making a ton of noise . Not sure if it's worth 60 bucks .
