Trying to Get Pregnant

IF/Testing Weekly Check-In 7/18

***General TW that this thread can and will mention MC and loss.***

This is a place for those of us who have already started TTC, but have started infertility testing and/or treatments. You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on infertility. TTC can be a long journey naturally, then add in the difficulties associated with infertility and it becomes a whole new ball game. The road to infertility can be lonely, frustrating, and complicated, so let's make this a place where we can vent, ask questions, and support one another.  Feel free to resurrect this thread at any point in the week if you have something to say, and treat this like an ongoing conversation.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?)
    Letrozole + ovidrel + iui

    How are things going?

Blech. I am so crampy and so convinced that I'm out this month. I just feel like I'm pmsing

    Any questions?

Has anyone switched from letrozole to injectables? This month the higher dose of let made me super dizzy and gave me bad hot flashes. I can handle the fatigue but the dizziness made me absolutely miserable.

  • Good morning. I'm new to this thread but I just started testing so I thought I would participate.

Diagnosis (If you've been): nothing yet except AMA (I refuse to call that a diagnosis) and very low AMH

    Cycle/CD: 4/3

    Status (WTO/TWW/TTA):  WTO

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?)  Like I said, we just started so I did my CD 3 blood work this morning and H went for his SA.  I am waiting for the admin to call me back to schedule the HSG and I start clomid on Wednesday.

How are things going? Its a little overwhelming right now but at least having so much going on feels like we have some control over the process. We love our RE.  Its nice to be feeling so hopeful at the moment.

    Any questions?

GTKY: What's your favorite dessert to overindulge in?  Ice cream, brownies, pie, all of it really.  :-)

  • Diagnosis (If you've been): No diagnosis yet. Just RPL without an explanation so far.

    Cycle/CD: 35

Status (WTO/TWW/TTA):  TWW, I think. Positive OPK Saturday and a large temp spike (well above all my previous temps this cycle) this morning. So I'm pretty sure I O'd yesterday but I still need 2 more days of high temps to get CHs.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) Blood work on 7DPO and that's about it for this cycle. Next cycle I'm either starting Clomid (if the blood work comes back abnormal) or starting genetic testing (if the blood work is normal).

How are things going? Pretty good. My body took a ridiculously long time (for me) to ovulate this month. I was starting to get worried it was going to be an anovulatory cycle and I'd have to wait another month to even start testing. So I'm just super excited I actually ovulated and I can get on with it.

I'd just like to rant really quick about the ladies who work in the office at my RE's office. Anytime I've called about anything they've acted like they're just so annoyed that I'm calling. Like I called 10 minutes ago to set up my 7DPO blood work and the lady is like "siiighhhhhh Fertility Institute of Virginia." No "how can I help you?" or anything. Just the name and awkward silence till I realize that she's done and I'm like "Oh I'm NamelessAria (only, ya know, my real name) and I'm just calling schedule blood work.! :)" and she's like "ugh can you just... call back in an hour? Our computers are down right now." And I'm like "Oh okay! Yeah I can do that. That's not a problem! Thank you. :)" And she's all "Yeah. Okay bye." Look lady I know Mondays suck but I'm the patient dealing with RPL/IF and if I can not act like this phone call is a total chore can you try to do the same. Maybe just.. try?

And like I know that people have bad days. And the first couple of times it happened I didn't hold it against whoever at all. But I mean... it's every single time I call.

OK! I'm done ranting. I just needed to get that out really quick.

Any questions? Nope. Not at the moment. :)

GTKY: What's your favorite dessert to overindulge in? Chocolate Mint frozen yogurt. It's just about the only dessert I'll allow myself to have (unless it's a birthday or holiday). I rationalize it as the frozen yogurt, aside from the sugar, isn't really that bad for you.

  • Diagnosis (If you've been):  PCOS

Cycle/CD: Well, this is technically my first cycle but 11th month... CD17

Status (WTO/TWW/TTA):  WTO... Not for much longer!

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) Letrozole, Pregnyl, TI, Metformin, Inositol, PNV

How are things going?  Now that things are kind of going...good!  I was hoping that my temp would be up today because I'm hella impatient but, alas, it wasn't. My Preseed came yesterday so we'll test that out tonight!

Any questions? Is it a side effect of Letrozole to dry up your CM? This medicated cycle is the driest that I've ever been

GTKY: What's your favorite dessert to overindulge in?  A warm brownie with vanilla or chocolate ice cream on top... My mouth just watered. But I try to not eat a lot of sugar and I try to not eat dairy so one of those is a very special occasion! Or AF.

    Diagnosis: Unexplained IF

Cycle and Status:  TWW cycle 15, waiting on af

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?)
    TI for now

    How are things going?
Too many emotions.  Trying to take it one day at a time despite my natural inclination to make treatment plans stretching into next year.  And I would really really like some face time with my RE or her nurse to better understand our situation, our odds, and why they want us to jump straight into clomid+iui, so I'll be calling soon about that.  Right now I am determined to get healthier, and the plan is to wait until cycle 18 to start medicated iuis.

    Any questions?

GTKY: What's your favorite dessert to overindulge in?
Maybe cookies? I will go to town on cookie dough (my favorite dough and cookie is this oatmeal chocolate chip), and if I bake a batch of cookies it's really easy for me to eat a dozen or more if I do "quality control" by testing one from each baking sheet as it comes out of the oven haha.

  • Hi! Thank you, @mrsdaddario, for starting this. I was really excited to see its introduction last week, though I didn't post. I haven't been participating on the regular boards lately as I feel like I'm not in the same state of mind as many of the ladies who are in their first couple of months trying... and the occasional 'accidental' newbie BFP posts frustrate me more than they should. So: Very glad this exists!

    Diagnosis: Unexplained.

    Cycle/CD: 10/22

    Status:  TWW

What are you doing this cycle? I had a sonohysterogram earlier this cycle, as well as the day 3 bloodwork and a couple of ultrasounds. We've decided to wait until after the 12th cycle to begin timed intercourse treatment. If we need to proceed with IUI/IVF, we'll wait until we can change our insurance in the new year.

How are things going? Well, the sonohysterogram was very uncomfortable for me—tons of bad cramping—though I'm sure it's not as bad as the HSG, which most of you probably had! In general, though, things are okay. It's a little frustrating not having a clear diagnosis, because the path forward isn't clear. I'm sure the grass is always greener on the other side, though. I do have hope this cycle, which is a great feeling for now, but may be devastating in a few days.

Any questions? Not at the moment!

GTKY: What's your favorite dessert to overindulge in? Homemade Rice Krispies Treats with peanut butter mixed in. I could eat an entire pan, so I never make them.

@mrsdaddario I've been lucky to not need any progesterone supplements. I was on 10 MG of letrozole for 8 days this cycle and it really made me feel awful. I'm hoping that next Cycle we can switch to something else.

Edited to add: I'm 12 dpiui and I typically have a 13 day lp. I'm planning to test thurs but I'm not hopeful.

    Cycle/CD:  10/26

Status (WTO/TWW/TTA):  TWW but really think limbo as bfn this morning at 13dpo

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) hysterscopy scheduled for 7/28 with polypectomy

How are things going? See questions

Any questions? Those who have had hysterscopies - how long did you have to refrain from intercourse? RE didn't give me a straight answer so it's really going to depend on what I guess they remove. Test is scheduled for CD10 (if AF shows wed) and I typically O on CD13 so trying to see if we have any chance next cycle or should I really just get myself prepared to be benched.

GTKY: What's your favorite dessert to overindulge in?
im so not a dessert fan. I'd much rather have an extra slice of pizza or more french fries etc than have dessert but if I had to choose I would say banana cream cheesecake from the Chessecake factory which is prob the only place I forgo appetizers for dessert.

  • I'm sorry about your BFN, @Marley629
  • @tamalahoops You haven't tested at all in those 12 days?! Good lord you have some willpower!! Show me your ways! Lol. I'm sure the 10mg Let is definitely not a walk in the park. I'm sorry, that all sounds so frustrating.

@Marley629 I'm sorry for the bfn. When I called to schedule my hsg, I got an appointment eleven days from that day. The nurse told me to abstain from sex that entire time. From what I've seen around here, that's an unusually long amount of time. I think the normal range is 3-5 days. Though you can probably call and ask what your doctor recommends, just to be safe.
  • @mrsdaddario I didn't test out my trigger so I'm terrified of a false positive. Next month I will for sure test out my trigger.

  • @tamalahoops Lol, I hear you. Both IUI cycles I made it all the way to 11dpt, 10dpiui before the crazy set in and I tested. I had BFN every time. I think the trigger gets out of my system pretty quickly actually, because I did test at 9dpt, 8dpiui this time around and it was BFN. Hopefully the third cycle I can hold out longer!

    Cycle/CD: 9 / 6

    Status (WTO/TWW/TTA):  WTO

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) I am going to be away when I ovulate so I'm not taking any medication prior to ovulation this cycle.  I ovulate on my own normally and don't want to do another round of letrozole if I'm not going to be monitored.  My plan is to just start taking progesterone once my ovulation has been confirmed by FF.

How are things going? I am feeling frustrated with my RE.  I ovulate on my own and nothing seems to indicate any problems except my low progesterone.  My RE has told me many times that low progesterone indicates another problem and if i had a good ovulation then I wouldn't have low progesterone.  I am trying to trust in my doctor but I'm just not buying it.  Based on the many many times I have had my progesterone tested I think my progesterone peaks quickly and starts dropping around day 5 or 6.  My LP is only 10 days anyways.  It just doesn't make sense to me why he doesn't want to at least try doing just progesterone without any other fertility drugs.  He says it is just putting a bandaid on but not fixing the problem. Does anyone have any insight/experience with progesterone issues?

Any questions? Hmmm see above. I guess I could've put that long rant/question here.

GTKY: What's your favorite dessert to overindulge in? I love all desserts. But probably my favorite favorite is cake.
  • @Marley629 after my Hysteroscopy the doc said if I wasn't bleeding when I ovulated we could try.  The procedure was  cd9 and I spotted for a few days. I didn't ovulate until cd 21 that cycle ( a few days late for me).  It is possible the procedure could delay ovulation.
  • @furbabymom2007 thank you! I'm actually hoping it does delay O. I was going  take the month off from temping but I think you just convinced me otherwise.  Were you able to go back to work next day? I only took day of off as of now but I heard pain wise I'll be ok to return but may still be lethargic

@Marley629 I did mine on a Friday morning.  I had to be there at 630 I was back home by 11.  I spent the rest of the day on the couch because I could.  I just felt a bit crampy.  No other issues.

I was was pretty much fine by Saturday with the exception of some minor spotting. I had about 5 hours of mini photo session set up and had no issues even running around like a maniac taking photos. :)
  • Diagnosis (If you've been): PCOS

    Cycle/CD: 4/15

Status (WTO/TWW/TTA):  Um.  Benched?  I'm anovulatory this cycle.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) Right now still collecting info - I only just got the diagnosis on Monday.  Getting a glucose test tomorrow morning to see if I need to go on Metformin  and waiting on a call from the RE to get an HSG test. My OB faxed them a referral for it so I'm hoping that means it goes faster... I could be silly hoping for that but oh well.  Also waiting to hear back on H's SA results.  That should be soon because it's been nearly two damn weeks. I do have Clomid for next cycle but obviously taking it will depend on all the tests and what the RE says.

How are things going? I'm feeling better today.  I was feeling really angry that my midwife just sort of threw clomid at me without really much of an explanation or further testing.  It felt so good today to go in and get all of that set up.  I'm excited to go into the RE. It feels good to be doing something since I'm not ovulating this cycle and otherwise feel useless.

Any questions? no questions - but open to any suggestions from any of you more experienced ladies!

GTKY: What's your favorite dessert to overindulge in?

    Anything dark chocolate.
  • @antoto am I reading that correctly that you're saying you are anovulatory on CD15?  Because I'm on CD19 on a medicated cycle and haven't ovulated but I wouldn't consider myself anovulatory for this cycle. You could just have a longer cycle.

Also, talk to your RE, but my RE said that they usually start with Femara/Letrozole with people who have PCOS.

I just know that because I had an ultrasound and blood work.  No dominant follicle and a LH/FSH ratio of 1:1.  No ovulation for me this month.

I will ask the RE about the Femara definitely.  That has been bugging me too.
  • @antoto ahh I see. My next question was going to be if they did an ultrasound and bloodwork... They don't think that you could just be ovulating later?  I suppose this is all stuff that you will figure out with the RE though, too :)  good luck! I agree that it is oddly satisfying to make the appointment and know that you're moving forward!

I don't think so with my cycle history.  Feel free to check out my charts - I have freakishly consistent cycles for someone with PCOS.  Fake out surges and everything.  I am a poster child for every time we say "just because you turned an OPK positive doesn't mean you ovulated"  Hell, even having a temp rise apparently doesn't mean  you ovulated.

  • @antoto I'm sorry about your PCOS dx, but at least the ball is rolling now! From my experience, OB's tend to use Clomid first. My OB included wanted to start me on that. I didn't feel comfortable doing any treatment with the OB, I really felt better going straight to an RE. He started me right on Letrozole. He said PCOS patients respond better to Letrozole, it doesn't have the affects associated with Clomid such as dry cm and thin lining. I know many people say, oh you can only be on Clomid or Letrozole "x" amounts of times because it's cancer causing. I asked the RE about this, and he said in his opinion there were not enough studies done to support that claim. He also said, it's common to only try 3-4 cycles of each, because if it's going to work, it will likely work in those 3-4 cycles. After cycle 4 the chances of it working steeply decline. Because you are so fit, I would be surprised if you were insulin resistant. You may have something called "thin PCOS" and not need Metformin. However you never know because I'm classified as overweight for my height and am not insulin resistant and don't need the Metformin either!
  • @mrsdaddario yeah I'm hoping I have the kind that doesn't have insulin problems - anything that will help make this a smidge more simple, where I have to take less drugs would be great.  When I see the RE the first question is definitely going to be about drug of choice.  That is definitely bothering me.  It's pretty astonishing how flippantly they hand that stuff over!

  • @antoto Question! What caused them to test you and what do you mean by 1:1 ratio? I am currently worrying a bit about my cycles and my labs came back with LH higher than FSH, but my OBGYN wasn't worried about it (7.7 vs. 5.3). My cycles were super wonky coming off bc, but I thougtht they had calmed down, only to be into my second cycle now with a late O...

  • @tamalahoops Yes. The trigger shot can definitely lengthen your LP.

@Zoey1019 Your LH to FSH ratio SHOULD be a 1:1 ratio. Yours does look like it is. When I was first tested for PCOS, my LH was double what my FSH was. And that is classic PCOS. Of course, not everyone has the same classifications for PCOS. It's diagnosed when someone has at least two of three criteria. In my case I had cystic ovaries, and my LH was doubled. I know you're worried about having PCOS. Aside from late O twice now, what other things worry you about the possibility of PCOS? Do you have any unwanted facial or body hair? Do you have irregular periods? Acne? Excessive weight (which I know you don't lol). Your hormones seem normal, so that's a good sign. Has YH had an SA?
  • The LH to FSH ratio should be about 1:1 normally. With polycyclic ovaries the ratio is much higher, like 2:1 or 3:1. Both numbers are normally between 4-8 @Zoey1019
  • Thanks for both your input @mrsdaddario and @LadyMillil . I don't have any other signs than irregular cycles, randomly, but also haven't been off birth control for a year yet, so who knows. I get acne, but not severe, and no unwanted hair. Sorry to barge into this thread with something that is probably just nothing. I just get really frustrated some days and I go a little crazy..... lol

Yea, DH had his SA last Thursday, so we are still waiting on results. We shall see! Thank you both again for calming my crazy a bit.

  • @Zoey1019 The other (far more knowledgeable, I might add!) ladies answered the LH/FSH question for you, but as for your question about what made me test I'll still answer that.  So For about two years I had been having cycles in which I had many days of spotting before my period started - sometimes as many as 6 days before.  I have a family history of infertility - especially because of thyroid problems so I went in thinking I would just have my thyroid tested and that was it, but the midwife wanted a full panel and an ultrasound.  I was honestly astonished when they said my ovary was cystic.  I wasn't really testing because I thought I was infertile - I just wanted to check in with my thyroid levels to make sure my family history wasn't catching up with me.  Turns out my thyroid levels were perfect.  So I had that going for me... which is nice.
  • @antoto Is your cystic ovary causing the spotting, or is that something separate they found out while testing you? I ask because I also often have many days of spotting before my period (most often 4, but it varies from 1-7 days), but neither my OBGYN nor my RE has found a reason for it yet, or seems that interested in finding the reason for it, and I'm always curious about others who have similar spotting. (I know that ovarian cysts can cause spotting, but I'm not clear on whether it's regular [i.e. always right before AF] spotting or random.)

So they didn't actually say one way or another, but I should throw this out there that I'm still really early on in this diagnosis and I haven't been to the RE yet :(  When I talked to the midwife about it she said that since she didn't believe I was ovulating at all it that would cause the weird spotting - she didn't specifically say the cysts caused it.  But I wouldn't take that as gospel since it didn't come from an RE.
  • @antoto Ahh, okay. Thank you for sharing your experience! I hope you'll be able to get in with the RE soon and start figuring things out.
