Eye boogers

my LO is 3 weeks tomorrow and I have noticed today that she gets very green wet boogers in one of her eyes. It's sticky and almost glues her eye shut. Her eye used to get dry crusties but one eye is dry and the other is wet now. Should I just keep wiping it with a wet cloth when she wakes or should I make an appt with the ped? Anyone else dealing with this or dealt with it in previous children? I had her 2 week appt this morning and it wasnt like this. Help please FTM here.

Re: Eye boogers

  • Mine has been having the same thing. I ready to put some breast milk on it and it has been helping a lot

  • My LO is 5 weeks and has had them since we came home. She doesn't seem to have them as bad as your LO, is there a lot of it in her eye? Pink eye can start like that were they get LOTS of crusty stuff on their eyes and wake up with their eye glued closed. But I mean a LOT of gunk in the eye. Every morning I wipe my LOs eye with a wet wash cloth and try to remember before bed if we don't give her a bath. If your really worried call your pediatrician tomorrow, if they have a nurses line then the nurse can tell you if you should come in. Hope it gets better!

  • Blocked tear duct.  Very common, totally normal.  DS had it for two weeks.  You can put a warm compress next to the inner eye. Fee times a day and look up how to massage a blocked duct.  It didn't make it go away but it helped clean it out.  It can take anywhere from 6 months to a year for the duct to open and the goop eye symptom can come and go.  DSs lasted about two weeks then just suddenly stopped.

WSS. DD had it real bad and DS has it every once in awhile. I wipe it with a warm wash cloth every time it gets crusty and put a drop of breast milk in the corner. It usually helps clear it up. Nothing to worry about as long as it's not inflamed.
  • Now is one of those times I'm really mad my breastmilk didn't come in. I will try the warm rag and see. Seems to be better this morning just a little goop and not glued shut. Thanks ladies.
  • My LO had this in both but now just one. My pedi said its a blocked tear duct.

Glad I'm not the only one who didn't get any milk at all. I get asked all the time if I'm breastfeeding. Kinda hard if you don't have any breast milk.
  • Mine tried to come in around day 5 and I would only get an oz total with both sides and then day 11 I was getting 6 drops total and day 13 nothing. It sucks I wanted to breast feed but nature had other plans.
  • Probably blocked tear duct but the green color makes me think you should bring baby in just to rule out infection. All 3 of y babies have had the blocked duct. The dr prescribed a gel to go on the eyelid near lashes, advised wiping it with a warm cloth and massage.

This sounds like what happened to me. It was so hard to let go of breastfeeding, but once I did it was like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders.
