I feel excited when I saw my ultrasound scan report. It was really great.
I am in 13th week and Doctor said that baby’s NT is normal and it is about 1.7 mm
My baby’s CRL is 58 mm.
I was not sure about the Nuchal translucency and just surfed online about it.
NT is a fluid that is present under the baby’s neck portion. It is used
to detect any chromosomal abnormalities or down syndrome.
And also, I found an online Nuchal Translucency calculator which says that my baby’s NT measure is 1.57 mm.
It is not a very huge difference but still am getting afraid that if it creates any pblm..
Anybody who knows well about NT.
Please clarify me, will it cause any huge problems.
I think normal is less than 3mm so either way it's fine. Also, the baby has to be in a very specific position to get the reading. I'm not sure how you got a new reading from the Internet, but if it's from a picture they gave you, they may have not given you the one they measured from.
My baby's was 1.8mm and the specialist we saw praised that as being good. Anything less than 3 is favorable. Sounds like your number is where it should be but never be afraid of that phone if you need reassurance!
I believe that more than 3mm indicates the increased chance of Down syndrome. However, this is not foolproof. My friend's baby had more than 3mm of fluid and was told her baby has Down's syndrome, and offered her to abort the baby. Good thing she didn't! It turned he did not have Down syndrome. There are a lot of false positives when it comes to genetic testing your fetus and baby. We just skipped it all this time around, I'd rather not be worried. Either way we are having our baby, healthy or no. When my 2nd daughter was born, her PKU (a blood test done right after they're born, heel prick) came back positive for cystic fibrosis. So we did it again two weeks later, positive for CF again. On the 3rd one it was negative, she is a healthy 5 yr old now.
Yes to false positives. Back when my mom was pregnant with my sister, she tested positive for 4 out of 6 Down's markers, I think one of those was the NT. And she ended up not having Down's. There are things that can tell you definitively now, within a certain margin of error. I wouldn't worry about it too much unless your doctor is worried and recommends more tests, and even those will probably tell you that you have nothing to worry about.
Re: What is the normal nuchal translucency?
