Happy dance! We were released from our RE yesterday and have our first OB appt next Friday. I'll be almost 10 weeks. Just wondering what to expect from the first appt and then on out. I'm so spoiled with u/s's every time we go to the RE and I know not to expect that. What has been your experience? TIA.

Re: Transition from RE to regular OB

  • Yay ! So I've only had one OB appointment since leaving my RE at 9 weeks . My first appointment was pretty uneventful . They took vitals , some bloodwork and listened for the baby's heart beat on a fetal Doppler . The heart beat was the fun part :) we also just discussed any questions I had . I won't have another US until 20 weeks at my anatomy scan .

March 2016: FET Cycle- 2 embryos transferred!: BFP !
  • Congrats! I was also discharged from my RE at 8 weeks and saw my OB the following week for the first time at 9 weeks. At that appointment they checked blood pressure, height and weight, did an US and we got to hear the heart beat for the first time :) We also reviewed the basic to do and not to do's of pregnancy and she answered questions. For my practice they see you once a month until you hit like 20 weeks I think and then every two weeks after that. I think this is actually a lot of appointments as compared to other practices. So my next appointment is scheduled at 13 weeks. I will have the NIPT done that week as well.

Congrats ! In our first appointment with OB (at ~9weeks), they did a dating ultrasound (even though I had two at RE) and then I had a long appointment with OB. We discussed all my medical history, what to do/not to do, the prenatal screenings etc. Then they did urine test, Pap Smear, physical check-up (breasts etc), weight, blood pressure, and he ordered a panel of blood tests including some genetic carrier testing. After this first thorough appointment, my following appointment was so short and quick, they checked weight and BP, listened the heartbeat with doppler, urine stick test, and Q&A. It helps if you have all your questions written somewhere because I usually forget my questions during the appointment and you will have a chance to ask all your questions. Best of luck !!
  • What kind of questions do you ask at your first OB appointment? I'm 5 weeks today but I won't graduate from my RE until 12 weeks.
