Food aversions

Any new aversions pop up lately for anyone else?

I finally got over constant nausea within the last week, and now I barely want any meat ever. We're practically a carnivore household so this has been tough for me. Oh, and I can't do leftover meat at all, ever. This is a fun new symptom with pregnancy #3, last time I couldn't eat tomatoes and the time before was eggs. You?

Re: Food aversions

  • Sausage. Even thinking of a brat makes me nauseous
  • I normally love chicken but it makes my stomach turn now unless it's very well hidden, mixed in with other things or covered in sauce. Peanut butter is my other aversion... Peanut butter cups are fine but the smell of real peanut butter makes me nauseous.

Funny you said that about the eggs... I didn't want them at all through the first trimester, but the last two weeks I've been enjoying them again.

meat in general is still a no go for me.....also red sauce/tomato based products. I can do it if there is cheese mixed in but the smell of marinara makes me want to die.
  • Still can't eat or smell bacon... It's just sad.

    @lizap77, I can't either! It IS sad!

When I was pregnant with DD, DH cooked bacon in the oven then didn't clean the pan until the next morning when I locked myself in our room and told him I wasn't coming out until he somehow got rid of the smell in the house. Luckily it was nice enough to open windows. Ever since then he's been warned that if he cooks bacon he has to clean it up immediately or else, especially when I'm pregnant.
  • No strong ones this time but last time I had a huge aversion to salad.

All the food aversions started for me right away in week 4. I'm able to eat more things than just carbs and juice finally. A few more things. Not many. Still having a hard time with meat, and can't stand the smell of it cooking.

  • No sausage or chicken and pretty much a lot of food. Hubby makes sausage like everyday and I literally want to gag at the smell and it fills our entire apartment.
  • meat and coffee here. I guess the coffee one is helpful, as I usually live off the stuff and decided to try to get by without it during the pregnancy...
  • Grilled chicken, but I may be getting over that one as I was tempted to order a chicken salad last night. I'm still a little too scared to see!
  • Eggs. It's an unfortunate one, too, because our family eats a LOT of eggs. I'd say we usually have a scramble or a quiche for dinner once or twice a week. Also we do eggs for breakfast most mornings. I'm really shaking up our family meal plans lately.

  • Avocados. I used to love them. Couldn't get enough. Now I can't look at them. It's sad. Honey mustard pretzels were my go to snack. Now, yuck! Can't stand them.
  • No food aversions for me as yet, but really strong cologne  (especially those who don't know how to wear it right) totally puts me over the edge. I had to leave work one day because I got so nauseous. My male boss didn't know that was a thing with pregnant women and his female boss had to fill him in. Thank goodness she had my back lol
  • Still no food aversions for me, but I did go out and buy new shampoo and conditioner yesterday. The old one didn't make me nauseous, but it suddenly smelled awful/rancid in my mind.
The new one, on the other hand...

  • The thought of cooked vegetables is too much for me! It's so sad because out of habit I keep buying Brussel sprouts and then throwing them away because I just can't eat them!

  • Any kind of seafood and eggs. It's not even the smell, it's the texture once it hits the back of my tongue. For smells, it's the usual suspects: smoking, cologne, etc. The worst is that my mom, who has Alzheimer's and is incontinent, lives with us. The smell approaching her makes me gag now.
  • For some reason, even typing pasta makes me want to gag.

  • The only thing I lived on before babe was chicken breast, broccoli, & sweet potatoes. I swear if anyone puts those options in front of me now, I'll gag. I knew something was up when I didn't want coffee in the mornings anymore, still haven't indulged in Starbucks since.
  • Guacamole for some reason.

Nothing specific...just no food in general ever sounds good. I could seriously eat just one meal a day and be satisfied.
  • I've been having a rough time with chicken. And pretty much just forget about shrimp. Most other stuff has been hit or miss. It might sound good until I start eating then I'm like why did I want this?

  • Eggs, peanut butter, shrimp, tomatoes, chocolate, just looking at the words makes my stomach churn. Although I have also had more hard core cravings like cheese fries and mashed potatoes.
  • I haven't had any real food aversions. However, I haven't been able to walk through food courts. The smell of a wide variety of foods in one place makes me want to lose all of my insides!
  • The food aversions really amaze me. How can I not want my favorite foods?! It's gotten a little better in the last few weeks so I can stomach a lot more now. I have the hardest time eating anything that I have to cook. If it's made for me I can usually handle it but I am unable to make any of our go-to dinners and eat them with my husband.
  • Not quite an aversion, but one of my favorite foods is pad see ew (thai), and it tastes like fish to me now :(
    (and I hate fish)

  • I struggled with food aversions (esp. veggies) before getting pregnant and tried to push through, but now I'm pretty sure vegetables are not actually food.
