What are your child's likes or dislikes? Is there anything that would blow them out of the water? Also, consider what would be easy to use in the hospital room/get out of the box. There is nothing worse than giving a child a toy they can't play with immediately.
I was initially against this idea but Amazon had a lightning deal on Melissa & Doug binoculars for super cheap. I'm saving those to be from the baby for DD. I figure when we're home together, she can use those to look at stuff in the yard, at birds, etc. LOL
How old is LO? Is there a toy that he/she really has been wanting or talking about lately? My LO loves Legos (but those would end up all over the the hospital) and Paw Patrol (think we're going to go with something from that category).
I thought about getting DD (2 1/2) a cute Sisters picture frame, but I think I would be more excited about that than she is. DD loves babies, so I might get her a new doll (her's isn't looking the best) or I might get a doll carrier so she can wear her doll when I wear baby.

I think the doll carrier sounds adorable. Maybe after they have their first picture taken together, put it in a frame like that and give it to her then?

I'm also planning on a doll carrier - DD's daycare has one and it's her favorite toy. I figured she could wear her baby while I do, too. They are so cute!
He just turned 3...he does love paw patrol. He loves squirt guns (water) of our neighbors but didnt think that would be appropriate at the hospital. hahah
My DD almost 3yr old loves going to the doctors and every time she wants to play with the stethoscope so that's what she'll be getting I figure it's the perfect gift for the situation and she'll be able to listen to the baby's heartbeat
Mine is just getting a sibling as the gift. If she is disappointed, oh well. Its not Christmas, it's not her birthday, she doesn't need anymore toys, we don't know the baby's name yet....so anything personalized for the two of them is out. She is bringing the new baby a gift that she picked out and wanted to give to him/her, but she is four and old enough to know that saying a gift is "from the baby", she would look at us like we were morons...knowing that the baby didn't pick it out for her. Her gift is the sibling, just like my "push present" is the baby.
And she has no idea that sibling gifts are even a thing these days.....so she wont be missing out on getting something. She will be so excited about the baby, she won't even notice that she didn't get a new toy.
When my 2nd was born, I got my first a doll carseat and doll accessories so she could play along with me. It was a big success! I won't be getting any gifts for my first 2 kiddos this time around, but I am encouraging them to pick out a gift for their new baby.
When my mom mailed us our Christmas presents she added a little package for DD that she said she initially envisioned us using when I have the baby but that I could give it to DD(2) whenever I wanted and tell her it was from whomever I wanted (so if we wanted to do a gift "from the baby" we could use it). It's a handmade mini diaper bag with a couple of handmade cloth diapers, a changing pad, and a little doll outfit inside. I don't know if we'll tell her it's from the baby or what but I do plan to give it to her when she meets the baby or I come home from the hospital, so she can take care of "her" baby while I take care of LO. I might add a little bottle or something, we'll see, and I actually love the idea of a little baby carrier for her since I plan to baby wear quite a bit this time. If I find one that's fairly cheap I'll get that, or maybe just make her one since I've got tons of fabric. She already has a few dolls so I'll probably just let her pick one of those to be her baby.
I got DS a toy when DD was born. But really it was a toy from us so he could play with it while I fed DD. I didn't plan on getting the kids anything this time. They picked out the going home outfit and I might have them each pick out a little gift for baby. When I think of a toy from baby, I think of something to keep the sibling occupied while you have to tend to baby.
I had also ordered my DD a "big sister" necklace. DH is planning on ordering a Kindle for DD, we aren't into tablets or anything at home, so this will be a big deal for DD to get (she's 6 and talks about all of her friends having tablets). It will help keep her occupied too during the time we are at the hospital and DD is staying with family or friends.
I'm planning to put a little goody bag together for big sister and brother. Stickers, colouring book, clips, dollar toy. Just small things they like. They are 4 and a half and 2 and a half
