June/July IVF or FET

Re: June/July IVF or FET

  • @KirstenCas, I'm in a similar boat. I've had my second IVF cancelled, both converted to IUIs. This makes IUI #9 for me, so it's old hat.

My RE has me pee on a stick after my two week wait, but some clinics have you come in for a beta. I think my RE likes to help me save money.

Since you ovulate with an IUI (but not IVF), you don't have to do progesterone, but my doctor puts me on a low dose to help.

It feels like a slightly more intense pap smear. A little pinchy at  your cervix, but otherwise not painful.

Be prepared for the fact that IVFs converted to IUIs don't have incredibly high success rates.  I am trying to be practical about mine. Of course, I'm also still hopeful. I'll be hopeful for yours, too.
Me- 39 (turning 40 in April), TTC for the first time ever (since Jan 2015), low ovarian reserve
Married 3/14/14 to my wonderful wife, but her sperm count is rather low
TTC with frozen donor sperm and science

    7 IUIs, 7 BFNs.
2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs.
Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire.
Next step- reciprocal IVF, using my wife's eggs, my uterus!
fresh 5 day transfer (2 embryos) 4/17/17- BFP!
Identical twins "due" 1/2/17 (but anticipated arrival sometime December)

@OCfortythree, I started my Lupron injections on Wednesday too! Are they giving you the craziest dreams? Mine are nuts and have happened every night since Wednesday. When are you scheduled to start stims?
  • Blood test done.  Waiting for results.  The lady who drew me at the RE office said she's seen people get BFNs on day 9 and positive betas, so not to give up until she calls me.  So I'm trying.  DH had to drive me because I cried the whole way there.  Can't wait to see everyone's results and good luck to those who are transferring today.

me:PCOS, blocked left fallopian tube, hyperprolactinemia  (dh's swimmers are perfect/normal)
Tried 3 rounds of clomid with Ovidrel trigger (BFNs)
May/June 2016 IVF   6/1 ER 7 eggs retrieved, 7 fertilized via ICSI  6 embryos made it to blasts.
6/6 2 AA embryos transfered, 4 BBs frozen
    Beta 6/18  -- BFN
    FET #1 August 22 BFN
Dec 2016/Jan 2017 Round 2 was a bust. 6 eggs, Only 1 embryo made it, no transfer
FET #2 cancelled 10/17 due to uterine polyps. Postponed until 9/2018 due to hip replacement.

FET #3 9/11/18 Uterine scratch and antihistamine protocol/lovenox done this time. 2 AA hatching blasts put in.  BFP 9/20/18!!

  • @BlueEyedDreamer I'm so sorry for your results, sending hugs your way.

Fx and Gl to all who had their beta today!

Question for all the ladies prepping for their Er, is anyone else not on lupron? I have my suppression check on Wed and then I'll be starting stims on Thursday but no Lupron before then. Anyone else skip this?
  • kfraskfras member
@TaylorMichel welcome! DH and I were also diagnosed with MFI. Around the same time as you too (April 2015) and we are finally on our first try at ivf. That is devastating that you did not respond to stims when everything looked good on your end. I hadn't even considered that there may be a problem because all of my tests came back clear as well. FX For you this time around!! Keep us posted!!

To everyone with betas today - I am thinking of you all and hoping for the best results!!! Time must tick soooo slowly waiting for that call...

@ale9687 I've come to realize everyone has different protocols. I too have never been on Lupron! I was on BCPs for 15 days then I started day 1 of stims with menopur and Gonal F. On day 7 I added Cetrotide.

I am on day 10 of stims today with trigger most likely tomorrow night and retrieval Tuesday.

@ale9687 I was not on Lupron until my trigger shot.

@BlueEyedDreamer I'm very sorry to see your update.  I'm thinking about you and sending hugs to you.

@TaylorMichel -- I sympathize! I also had a very poor response to the Gonal-F protocol for apparently no reason whatsoever. I was almost canceled on Day 5, but showed enough progress by Day 7 to continue...but only resulted in one embryo. I am hoping that I will fall into the 'one is enough' category, but am fully mentally prepared to have to do this again. I'm interested to see how my doctor will change his approach if we have a second cycle.

I bet that your second attempt will be successful, because they know a lot more about you than they did previously and how you will respond! Even a canceled cycle is still somewhat a success in that way, even though it is disappointing. Hang in there dear!

@ale9687 -- Lupron wasn't a part of my protocol either.

  • @sleepyrn so sorry, for the beta.

I had my ultrasound and bloodwork this AM. Tonight will be day 5 of stims. Ultrasound showed 3 follies on the left (always my dominant) and a few little ones growing on the right. They upped me to 375 Gonal-F, stayed at 20 low dose HCG and added in cetrocide. Ultrasound again on Tuesday to monitor growth.

For those who have done this before how far into stims will you have an idea of how much you will eventually retrieve? I was kind of surprised I only had 3 measurable, but really have no basis for expectations.
  • So sorry to hear @sleepyrn I have heard so many success stories with failed transfers and then success with a FET. FX for you!
@kfras don't think too much into it! I think I was a bit of an anomaly reacting the way I did. The nurse also over prescribed BC, she had me go on it in January when I didn't start my Lupron until mid March. First time around I was on 150 iu Gonal F. This time I'm on 450iu which I know is extreme but my doctor is seeing me earlier than normal to see if my ovaries have "woken up" so it's possible he may decrease the dose. Good luck with your trigger and retrieval!!!
@LinZ528 good luck with your transfer! One is absolutely all you need! I was cancelled on day 5 and while I was crushed at the time I'm grateful my RE really seemed to have our success in his mind and for that, I'm grateful. Be positive for your little embie, I want to celebrate your positive beta!!

  • Nooo, I'm so bummed for you @sleepyrn & @emgem819.  {{Hugs}}

AFM, I had my IVF nursing class on Thursday.  My period was acting like it really wanted to start, even though I was on birth control pills.  They said I could go ahead and get started since I had been on birth control pills for a little over two weeks.  So, I took my last pill Thursday night and will begin stims Monday night!  When I was there on Thursday they went ahead and did my saline ultrasound and baseline.  They found a polyp during the saline ultrasound and the Dr hopes he can remove it while I'm under for the egg retrieval. I'm excited to get started!

Thank you everyone for the kind words.  I have an appointment with the RE on the 28th, but if AF shows up before then we are going to go ahead and start the FET cycle.   Now I'm hoping AF comes like tomorrow.  But I know it will be later this week most likely.  Went out for sushi with DH and a few of our friends.   Currently sipping on a mixed drink DH made with rum we brought back from our last cruise.   Going to relax tonight because I have to put on a happy face tomorrow when we host his family for father's day.  (they don't know about the ivf)

I'll be reading up on everyone, and join whatever group is appropriate for my FET.  Baby dust to us all!

  • Yay, @chicandbubbly , doing a happy dance for you!!!!

@wifeinraleigh28 The class took a little longer than I thought, but we also unexpectedly threw in the saline ultrasound and E2 blood work.  When they called to remind me of the class, they asked that we get there 15 minutes early to meet with Finance and hand over the funds.  By the time we left, it had been almost two hours.  There is a ton of paperwork for you and DH to sign/initial.  I wonder if you could ask if they could email you most of that beforehand?  We sort of rushed through a lot of the paperwork and hoped we weren't signing something ridiculous.  :)  Part of the paperwork I didn't think about beforehand, is asking what you would do with the extra embryos if one or both of you died, if you get divorced, etc. We went over all the medications, very overwhelming to remember everything, so I'll be youtubing how to mix the Menopur. haha I also didn't realize I'd have to do a separate FET class, so she didn't cover PIO or any of those medications.  Hope that helps, feel free to ask any more questions!!

  • @wifeinraleigh28 and @AugustAng What is nursing class? Is it for doing the injects? My clinic has been so blasé about that stuff, while I keep reading other places having people attend classes etc. I've basically learned everything from videos on their website and YouTube!
  • @BornReady My nursing class consisted of filling out all the legal paperwork, going over all the medications I would be using, instructions on how to use the injections, mix them, etc.  We also went over my dosages of the medications and a general idea of the timeline until egg retrieval.  It was basically a detailed information session.  :)  @wifeinraleigh28 and I go to the same clinic so I'm not sure how common they are!

    IVF #1: ER 6/30, 9 eggs retrieved, 7 mature, 6 fertilized w/ ICSI, 3 made to Day 6, 0 normal after PGS
IVF #2: begin stims mid August
  • @augustang That makes sense, we had a similar nurse meeting after meeting with our RE for our IVF consult. I was thinking it was some sort of class with other people...like going to school.
  • @BornReady I haven't attended the IVF class yet at my clinic but I did attend a follistim class before my first IUI and it was with other people.  The classes are small... like maybe 2 or 3 couples, but you are there with other people which actually makes me kind of uncomfortable.  But that's how they do it at my clinic.

@BlueEyedDreamer I completely understand your need to take a break and grieve your loss.  This stuff is so unbelievably tough.  Our FET will also be in August so I look forward to connecting with you again if you decide to return when it gets closer.  *hugs*
