24 Hr urine

I questioned this in another post but I thought I'd make a new thread.  Our birth mother's BP was 151/98 are our appointment last Wednesday.  They waited an hour and took it again but it didn't go down.  They sent her home and told her to relax and take it again in a couple hours.  She says it's back to normal but I really don't think it is.  She's having headaches and is not resting like she should.  I really wish her doctor would manage her BP better than she is.  I'm really concerned that they will deliver the baby rather than be more conservative now and put her on bed rest.  She was out raking leaves and doing yard work on Saturday.

Anyways, they did a baseline 24 hour urine to check her protein levels and it came back at 260.  Does anyone have any experience with this?  I'm not really sure what it means other than what the internet gives me.  I read somewhere that they will deliver immediately if it's over 500.  She just turned in a second 24 hr test today and we are waiting on the results.  I'm really concerned that it will be much higher and I don't know what the plan will be. I really hope we can get to at least 37 weeks which is when they said they would induce her or do a cesarean.  Anyone have any experience?

Re: 24 Hr urine

  • My bp was around the same for 3 weeks in a row they put me on bp meds for a week but realized that was unnecessary. They also did a 24 hr urine and mine came back out of the range (180) but my dr said they don't get concerned until the number is in the 300s and that the second number in the bp is over 110. Mine was normal today at 117/79 sometimes dr appointments are stressful and ur bp goes up. It will also go up if you are laying down. Try not to worry my dr said that even with a slightly elevated bp and protein in my urine out of range it wasn't a concern and believes baby is in my belly for the long haul.

  • I have been monitored for high BP for the last month. I think every OB interprets what the cutoff for protein urine is that classifies someone as pre-eclamptic. Mine has gone up weekly and is now over 300 so that in combination with my BP being over 140/95 continuously has put me on bed rest. My Doctor just said today they don't go off of urine protein alone. Are they doing any other monitoring on her like NST's? I only recently started having headaches too. The symptoms can vary so greatly for PIH and pre-eclampsia. Hopefully they can give her some instructions on resting if they are really concerned she has PIH or pre-eclampsia.

  • They aren't starting NSTs until 34 weeks.  BUT..the doctor called her today personally because she called saying she was having ongoing headaches and they said depending on what her 24 hr urine looks like and her BP in the next week or so, they may deliver at 34 weeks!  Now I'm really starting to get nervous!  Baby girl has hydronephrosis that has actually gotten slightly worse not better since found at 20 weeks.  Doc referred to a perinatologist but can't see her until she's 35 weeks. Obviously that's not going to help if they deliver before then.
