Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

How long for your hcg to drop?

I'm curious about how long it took everyone's hcg to drop back to zero. It seems like it varies so much from person to person, I know. The waiting is torture.

Re: How long for your hcg to drop?

  • It took me about 6 weeks. I got my first period prior to my hcg returning to zero.

@ThePax89 I didn't even know that was possible! What was your HCG at the highest? Six weeks seems so long :(

  • Mine took 6 weeks also....my levels were 125,000 at 9 weeks pregnant when my mmc was discovered.

I zero out about 2 weeks from 1st blood draw during mc. My last mc, I was 1300 or so the day I started to miscarry. Three days later I was at 595, and slowly dropped from there. I was about 5 weeks.

This time i was 8w2d so I assume my drop to zero will take longer

  • 11-12 weeks from my d&c. I ovulated when it was in the 70s (confirmed by bloodwork) and it was single digits when I got my period.

  • I think about 4-5 weeks, but I didn't get confirmation with blood work.  My OB took two blood tests just to make sure the levels were dropping.  At about 2 weeks after the cytotec, my levels went from 6800 to 4800 in 48 hrs.  After that she said to take a pregnancy test when the bleeding stopped to make sure I was getting negatives.  It took one month after the start of my miscarriage to get a BFN.
    DS 11.24.11
    MMC 3.30.16
  • Both times I've gotten negative pregnancy tests in about two weeks. With my last MC, my numbers were around 14,000 two weeks before my MC started. I never got follow up betas to know what they were right after I MCd.
  • It took my about three and a half weeks the first time. My highest beta prior to MC was 22,000. I got AF 27 days after D&C. This last time they did not check any betas at all but I started getting negative pregnancy tests at home about three weeks out. Unfortunately, I still have no AF and I'll be six weeks out as of tomorrow.

I was 11 weeks when I had my d&c and by my follow up apt (2 weeks later) I was already at 0
  • I had a D&C at 10 weeks pregnant based on LMP; baby's heart had stopped 2 weeks before that (8 weeks), but baby only developed to measure 6w2d.  2 weeks after D&C (so, 4 weeks after MMC), my HCG was 278 (down from around 12-14,000 on the day of D&C).  Another week later it was in the 50s.  I just got it drawn today for hopefully the last time.  I got a BFN yesterday.

  • at 5+3 hcg=5,400ish
at 6w it was a little lower & loss at 6w2d
    12days post loss hcg=40 & still BFP
19days post loss hcg=12.5 & super squinters on HPTs
    26days post loss hcg=4.2

I hope it helps to see the timeline.  My hcg took awhile to clear even with an early loss.  The wait is frustrating.

  • It took me about six weeks to get to negative.  Had a natural MC beginning 2/17/16 and my last blood draw, on 3/28/16, was less than 4 (no idea where it was at the time of the miscarriage).  My period started two days later.

  • @runfast High. Not sure of the value. At 7 weeks it was 29,000, and I miscarried via d&c at 9.5 weeks, so probably much much higher. I do know that day 2 of my period, I still had positive pregnancy tests and on day 7 of my cycle, my hcg was down to an 8.
  • I haven't been to the doctor for a follow up yet, so I don't have actual numbers. I got my first negative yesterday morning, exactly one week after I miscarried naturally at 8w4d. But I had lost my symptoms a couple weeks before that, so I suspect that had something to do with it.
  • I miscarried around 8 weeks and I think it took about 3-4 weeks to drop completely? It took me a few weeks after the hcg had dropped to get a period
